With its seventh release, NEW YORK TRAX welcomes the revival of John Selway’s ‘Semblance Factor’ alias. Selway became an indispensable element of the history of the New York sound by virtue of building an extensive catalog of high quality releases spanning almost three decades and multiple genres of electronic music. From his first electronic band Chaotic Sound Matrix, to his major contributions to the early productions of Deep Dish; from his first success in the techno world as part of the seminal New York duo Disintegrator to the most successful of his collaborations, Smith & Selway, and his deep and minimal techno label CSM; from the intelligent electro-funk of Synapse and Serotonin Records, the electro and synth-pop of Memory Boy to the wild improvisational eclecticism of the Rancho Relaxo Allstars, Selway has created one of the richest bodies of work in the world of electronic music.

With its sixth release NEW YORK TRAX continues the mission of highlighting the jewels of the New York underground. Liquid Asset is a Philadelphia-born Brooklyn-based hardware virtuoso who has made a name for herself by virtue of appearances on labels such as E-Saggila’s Summer Isle Brooklyn’s own Primitive Languages Jacktone and Acid Etch where she has recently delivered a furious 7” split with Isabella. Liquid Asset built her own 808 and 303 clones by hand. The modified 303 is particularly audible in the opening track of the record “Ephemeral Nights” where she did not waste time on an intro and went straight to creating a sonic pandemonium by blending an airhorn sound with frenzy acid basslines and a hardcore-leaning 909 kick. “Contact” is a merciless creature of the night with its relentless dark groove building up throughout
this composition cannot easily be classified as a representation of any particular genre. “Controlperception” opens the B side. Here Liquid Asset plays with a cheerful acid line over a dreamy landscape often punctured with bleeping sounds. Finally in “Forgetmenot” two opposite sounding basslines intertwine creating a minimal
yet very capturing composition to close this one of a kind record.

The fifth record on NEW YORK TRAX is by Løt.te, the Turkish-born, Brooklyn-based DJ, producer and designer affiliated with The Bunker New York by virtue of two well-received vinyl releases. This politically charged EP titled 'State of Exception' is Løt.te’s personal reflection on the current social and political climate in Turkey. With rhythmic synths brought to the foreground, Løt.te committed a masterpiece that only a skilled and thoughtful artist like himself can. The opening ‘Ultra Vires’ is a relentless synth-driven warehouse track mercilessly rolling at the speed of 140BPM. The deeper Ausnahmezustand follows; it is a reflective and rhythmical piece perfect for both home listening and the dance floor. 15.07.2016 opens the B side with its tense yet playful atmosphere and numerous constantly evolving layers of sound. Finally, Graft is a shockingly intense introspective piece. Crafted with Japanese taiko drums and digital synthesizers pushed to their limits, it is a lesson in perfect sound design

Founded in 2016 and based in Brooklyn, NEW YORK TRAX is an outlet for New York music, by New York artists, in New York city. New York Trax 02 was written by Boris Brenecki (Ontal, Impulse Controls), who has recently relocated to New York, starting a new chapter in his life and artistic career. This record is the very first material he produced in New York, heavily inspired by the city and its people. ‘The Oven’, with its continuous filthy groove intensified by metallic percussions, is a serious candidate for an instant classic and a deadly weapon when used on a dancefloor. The grittiness of “The Oven” was depicted through images of the less beaten paths of New York in a well-received official video published recently by the label. Dark yet insanely dynamic “Transit System”, based on field recordings of the New York City subway, opens with a bang the B side of the record, followed by “Strictly Hardcore”, a sonic manifesto of brutality. Mr. Hinge, a pioneering proponent of NY techno since the early 90’s, has outdone himself once again with this no-compromises gem, plumbed from the depths of his hardware based Brooklyn studio. Having taken a hiatus from production since his seminal releases on Conrail, Sonic Groove, Hidden Agenda, Disko B and Path Records, Hinge triumphantly reclaims his seat at the table of NY techno greats with this 12”. Only available on NEW YORK TRAX. “Changes” is a track which sounds like changes. Steadily and intently, it evolves and progresses until it breaks the surface and becomes part of your reality. Ever had voices in your head? Auditory hallucinations? Well, you like techno, so likely the answer is yes. Now, imagine those voices over a heavily distorted beat. Unless you’re headstrong, “Voices in my head” might be your worst nightmare, but given the right dance floor, time, and space, serious damage can be done in the best possible way. “Movement”, a deep and dreamy affair, rounds out the EP. Here Hinge has no mercy and he wakes you up from that sweet dream with a short rain of intense hi-hats and throbbing subsonics.
