Fear-E - A Chase Off Roadrunner
The notorious Glasgow producer, Fear-E is back on Hilltown Disco, after originally appearing on the Dundee imprint in 2019, this time with 4 tracks of techno-infused electro, plus a dance-floor geared remix on the A-side from one of the original Hilltown Disco collectives, J Wax.
Fear-E runs wild, broadcasting apocalyptical electro sounds, creating a seriously heavy-duty record to soundtrack the end of society in worlds not too dissimilar to earth. Punchy kicks, disturbing vocals from the mystical Mike James, and venomous sirens create a fresh take on the sound.
No nonsense electro.

We are proud to welcome Fear-E for his Dark Entries debut ‘Grey Skies In A Dear Green Place’ out February 28th. Fear-E is the moniker of Scott McKay a Glasgow based DJ and producer. Scott has already made a name for himself as one of Glasgow’s most technically-gifted and diverse selectors over the past decade. Then a slew of releases on the home-grown Dixon Avenue Basement Jams and Super Rhythm Trax introduced Fear-E, equally skilled studio operator, to the world.
‘Grey Skies In A Dear Green Place’ contains six club-ready tracks to “smash sound systems and illuminate sweaty warehouses.” The title is a reference to a nickname that Glasgow has, coming from Cumbric, means 'green hollow' or (dear) 'green place'. Layering cut-up vocals with warm thumping beats, Scott creates a stripped-back yet deeply jackin’ vibe. Call these tracks what you will, “acid attacks”, “club destroyers”, “pickle ticklers?!” All songs have been mastered by George Horn at Fantasy Studios. For the cover, Scott commissioned legendary Detroit illustrator Alan Oldham, who’s artwork has graced established an identity for Transmat and DJAX-UP-BEATS, to create a futuristic portrait of Glasgow in black & white and with green kryptonite flourishes by Eloise Leigh.d

We’re excited to be joined by one of the most versatile and knowledgeable DJ producers on the planet. Hailing from Chicago, Chrissy’s expertise knows no bounds and stylistically there’s few hats he won’t don, with productions appearing on labels as diverse as Planet Mu, Classic and Hypercolour to name a few. For his debut on Super Rhythm Trax his wings remain characteristically unclipped as the tone veers from the massive Acid wall of ’Truth Bomb’ (built upon an acappella from a house legend) through the ghostly dubbed out ‘Stumble’ to the anthemic house of ‘We’re Movin’ before finally resting on the 21st century New Beat of ’24 Hour Puppy People’ .
’Truth Bomb’ is exclusive to the Vinyl only. Digital versions will contain a version with different vocals. More

DABJ have taken flight with their first drop of 2019. And it's another fine selection of sonic warheads from Advanced Helicopter Commander Fear-E.
Anyone who has heard the DABJ crew play out over the last year will bound to have heard some of the fire from this. "Jump On The House Train" has been a staple in our club sets and mixes, and has to be one of the most asked about tracks we've had on rotation. All four tracks encapsulate the vibe of late night / early morn' Glasgow warehouse parties perfectly. Highly limited vinyl [with hand stamped labels and cool insert] release plus digital release.
Don't let this one evade your capture...

DJ Haus (the hardest working man in show business!) teams up with Mak & Pasteman for our landmark quarter century release!!! How the hell did that happen? we only expected to manage about 4 releases tops? We are really proud to welcome these guys to the ever expanding DABJ family, and they have not let us down with this first release... The title track and "Bang It" are room shaking heavy bass numbers, which we have been rinsing for almost a year now... Drive MF sounds like Paul Johnson and Daniel Bell "stuck in an elevator" (or some other bullshit analogy like that...). All 3 tracks = essential. period. "Buy on sight" etc etc... Carefully hand stamped by the two slackest men in show business (or at least one of them anyway...) Shout out once again to Lindsay Todd of Firecracker for the sick stamp designs!

DABJ favourites Denis Sulta & CT Trax make a welcome return alongside mysterious new boy Fear-E! Denis Sulta lives in a Bedouin temple in a far off eastern land where he lounges in his imperial bed chamber surrounded by a bevy of beautiful women. These scantily-clad, exotic felines soothe his body and mind with an array of mystical massages as he lies on his luxurious ruby red, Egyptian cotton sheets. He only drinks the finest Buckfast wine and dines on delicious delicacies from far flung corners of the globe. So, thank the lord he was willing to give this up, jump down to the basement and lay down Time 4 Prayer, another fucked up dirty funk Sulta classic. Denis tags in Fear-E for his DABJ debut. Candi’s Quadra is a sexy wee off the shoulder number that’ll have you goggle eyed and panting for more. On the flip, CT Trax completes the mouth-watering line up to smash home two winners and lift the trophy for the All Stars.

Deep in the bowels of the Dixon Avenue basement lived a man so outrageously overweight we used him for a sofa. King Chubby, a suite chap but a bit cheeky. Said the only reason he was humpty dumpty was cause every time he rode yer maw she made him a sandwich. He tried dieting but nothing worked. We took drastic action and wired woofers direct to his lardy lugs with In Basements Vol 2 blasting in on repeat. Thanks to the squelchy genius of tunes like Luna, Save It and Sneaking Out our big boned bro boogalooed himself skinny. He bopped till the weight dropped. King’ Chubby’s pumpalicious now and you can be to if you sign up to Casio Royale’s latest DABJ dance diet plan.

For it’s 16th (!!!) release, Dixon Avenue Basement Jams continues to bolster it’s local infantry with fresh, new blood, this time with the addition of a young but well-seasoned individual hailing from the hinterland of greater Glasgow and going by the name of Big Miz. If you happen to live within an 8 mile radius of a Blue Lagoon, the chances are you will have already been acquainted with the bold Miz, most likely through the longstanding and legendary clubnight/crew he’s a resident & founding member of: Offbeat. The length & breadth of Offbeat’s tastes also reflects his flexibility as a producer. Tracks presented here, such as “Good Thing” strike a fine balance between good ol’ Motor City funk and Chi-Town oddities such as Vincent Floyd’s more obscure cuts on D.M, while the velocity increasing “Solange” comes like the result of a three-day Theo studio session fuelled by bad speed. His talent for catering to the dance has clearly paid dividends when it comes to his productions, with the nuance and instinctive touch he presents us with on his debut DABJ 12” clearly marking him from the start line as an already formidable & stand-out force in the heady and increasingly cramped world of house & techno.
