Yoruba Records is proud to welcome Kevin Reynolds to the family with his latest release ‘Fembehyahget’. A student of Detroit’s early underground techno scene, Kevin delivers a line-up of transcontinental sound rhythms through the lens of this seasoned producer. Kevin’s finely tuned engineer ear and his masterful DJ touch come together to offer listeners an exploratory journey from the mind of a student of all genres of music. The first track, ‘Dodging a Clip’, is reminiscent of NYC break-beat loops, with a signature Kraftwerk robotic soul, a combination that points to Reynold’s Midwest education where German electronic music, Motown soul, and Chicago house contributed to the sound fabric of the 1980s and 1990s Detroit. Up next is title track ‘Fembehyahget’, a monstrous tune that pulls us in deep with a soul clap scattered strategically throughout the song. Its electro acoustic sound is accentuated by samples of traditional African vocalists and the call and response nature of her accompanying choir. ‘Travelled’ is a down-tempo jam with brilliantly placed Bossa Nova vocals. Hints of new wave synths hold the track in place and help it to transcend time. Finally we close out with ‘Vibe Samba’, an infectious syncopated jam that leaves plenty of space between the beats for imagination on the dance floor. This EP delivers quality compositions that push up against any and all notions of musical borders, and we hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we have bringing it to you.

sunlight square - Celebration Of Oggun (Trinidadiandeep Remix)
As we move into the summer months, Yoruba records is pleased to present this tasteful rendition of Celebration of Oggun from the much acclaimed Sunlightsquare. Based on a traditional Yoruba chant performed by Havana’s Abbilona, Sunlightsquare takes the original and gives it a modern deep house touch. A soulful tribute to the protector in the Orisha system, Sunlightsquare provides a Rhodes-driven melody that accompanied by powerful chants will have you grooving any time of day or night. A2 finds us with the stripped down Yoruba Soul Beats version from Osunlade himself. A unique percussive number that keeps the soul of the original – the Bata drums command you to move your body in celebration. As we flip the record over we kick off with the Yoruba Soul Mix. Using the backbone of the Beats Mix, this nearly seven minute ballad is an absolute must-have in your bag. A smooth, subtle bass keeps you grooving as it makes way for the vocal – elevating you in the spirit of dance. Lastly, we close with a stunning mix by none other than Trinidadiandeep. This future Yoruba classic is as deep as it comes. Guaranteed to keep the floor moving, this must-listen track’s pads help round out an EP we’re extremely excited to bring you.

Yoruba records is pleased to bring you a taste of the upcoming ‘Who Am I’ remix album featuring a floor filling remix from none other than Louie Vega. ‘Weekend Love’ takes you back to place when love made you smile, featuring the voices of Melbourne’s own Motty & Siobhan, the perfect vocal duo bringing it all together. Louie keeps the soul of the original while delivering a level of house music flair that only he can. Vega’s Roots NYC Mix is reminiscent of his classic material; this one is certain to have you vibing to the bassline and is an absolute floor filler. The flip side brings you two deep cuts of ‘Pelagonia’, the first of which is from up- and-comer At One. His chunky drums and spaced out horns will take you on a hypnotic journey. As the vocal chants come in they seem to remove all doubt; this deep, late night cut is a must have. Closing out this EP is Yoruba honcho Osunlade’s Yoruba Soul mix. A heavy, percussion-driven jam that boasts floor-ready bass and clever use of the original horn section, as it builds into a climax this tune is sure to heat up your summer. Stay tuned for the full Who Am I remix album due out late 2016.

Yoruba Records is proud to welcome multi-instrumentalist, singer, producer and 22a label owner, Tenderlonious to the family with this magnificent six-track EP. The opening and title track of this EP, Nobody Else, is a deep and jazzy cut – the chunky kicks and floating bass line move this track to a climax with ease. Perfect for home listening, this jam also yearns for the dance floor and sets the tone for this EP. A2 brings us Sula, a head-bob inducing, pan-flute led jam. The scattered keys and rolling bass add enough funk to get you moving and make this light hearted groove a listener favourite. Side A closes with Brother Yusef (Interlude): a short yet totally hypnotic melody, this track is a must-listen. Almost as quickly as it picks you up and locks you in, you’ll find yourself being let down gently and asking for more. Mind That Widow keeps the pace of this release by opening side B with another deep, jazzy cut that calls attention to detail in a way that only Tenderlonious can. A captivating flute line and keys dripping with reverb are sure to grab your attention while the broken drum beat will keep listeners moving into the night. Next up, Without You is undoubtedly a future Yoruba classic. With absolutely memorizing keys and fat bass stabs that seem to pick up exactly where the layered vocal leads leave off, this track is as complex as it is deep – we can’t get enough of it and we know you won’t either. This EP closes with You Were My Number 1 – an infectious dance floor groove. The rising key lines and stomping kicks blend with sensual vocals to make this floor-ready jam a must have for your record bag.

osunlade - The Waiting Game feat Rainy Payne
Yoruba Records is happy to release this dance floor ready EP by label head Osunlade. Stretching across a range of styles there’s something for everyone in this release, an absolute must for every DJ’s bag. The EP opens up with the title track, What Pho. A relaxing jam driven by a powerful sounding grand piano and complimented by shakers, the added backing percussion and subtle bird chirps lend well to the creation of this track’s rainforest-esque mystique. Next up is the deep, almost jazzy track – Jus’ Anuda Groove. The rolling bass line and four to the floor beat will get you moving – and keep you there - as Osunlade reminds us that this is just another groove. Opening up the B-side is Schavanna, a funky, guitar-driven track whose pulsating bass line and friendly but muffled vocals will keep people moving on the floor. Finally, the EP closes with The Waiting Game, a hypnotic, tribal-learning track with a foot-stomping beat, colored with the seductive vocals of Rainy Payne, it’s hard to tell which is more captivating, the groove itself or the story line she unfolds.

Yoruba Records is happy to welcome back label veterans Kiko Navarro and DJ Fudge with this tribal leaning surprise release. As the name BabaluAye (the praise name for the healer in the Orisha system) suggests, this package has taken on a diverse world music approach. The original mix opens with crystal clear vocals that compliment the wide array of live drums featured throughout. The mix comes into its own with the addition of atmospheric underlying keys and melodic guitar riffs. The club cut comes with a more pronounced, driving beat clearly meant for the floor and features well-crafted jazz-like piano lines sure to capture listeners in a trance. Le Soleil’s mix uses a smooth bass line that takes charge of the track and is complimented by a rhythm guitar and a hint of ambient keys that add fullness and depth to this cut. Moyuba has provided us with a seamlessly crafted dub that edges on the border of tech house and is as club ready as they come. Finally, the Cosmic dub brings this release to a close with a slow, rolling bass line, drawn out atmospheric synths and well placed stabs that will keep the room moving into the early morning.
