Yoruba records is pleased to bring you a taste of the upcoming ‘Who Am I’ remix album featuring a floor filling remix from none other than Louie Vega. ‘Weekend Love’ takes you back to place when love made you smile, featuring the voices of Melbourne’s own Motty & Siobhan, the perfect vocal duo bringing it all together. Louie keeps the soul of the original while delivering a level of house music flair that only he can. Vega’s Roots NYC Mix is reminiscent of his classic material; this one is certain to have you vibing to the bassline and is an absolute floor filler. The flip side brings you two deep cuts of ‘Pelagonia’, the first of which is from up- and-comer At One. His chunky drums and spaced out horns will take you on a hypnotic journey. Yoruba Records is proud to welcome multi-instrumentalist, singer, producer and 22a label owner, Tenderlonious to the family with this magnificent six-track EP. The opening and title track of this EP, Nobody Else, is a deep and jazzy cut – the chunky kicks and floating bass line move this track to a climax with ease. Perfect for home listening, this jam also yearns for the dance floor and sets the tone for this EP. A2 brings us Sula, a head-bob inducing, pan-flute led jam. The scattered keys and rolling bass add enough funk to get you moving and make this light hearted groove a listener favourite. Side A closes with Brother Yusef (Interlude): a short yet totally hypnotic melody, this track is a must-listen. Almost as quickly as it picks you up and locks you in, you’ll find yourself being let down gently and asking for more. Having honed his craft as a graduate of the Berklee College of Music, Myles is known for releases on his own imprint Deep Culture Music and we’re excited to have him bring his blend of Latin, jazz, and tropical rhythms to the Yoruba family. The opening track, Afro Banger, as the title suggests is a dance floor ready Afro-inspired ballad. The captivating combination of percussion, rolling bass and clever synth stabs in this track demand peak hour airtime. House Rocka is yet another floor-ready tune. With its fat, punching bass and smooth conga –laden beat this track will keep a floor moving at any hour. The B-side of this release opens with Spiritual Awakening. Seemingly led by steel drums and gentle guitar arpeggios, the introduction of a warm bass line takes this groove in a hypnotic direction. Finally the title track of this release, Turning Pages opens up with a smooth string bass line perfect for setting the mood a little deeper. Stretching across a range of styles there’s something for everyone in this release, an absolute must for every DJ’s bag. The EP opens up with the title track, What Pho. A relaxing jam driven by a powerful sounding grand piano and complimented by shakers, the added backing percussion and subtle bird chirps lend well to the creation of this track’s rainforest-esque mystique. Next up is the deep, almost jazzy track – Jus’ Anuda Groove. As the name BabaluAye (the praise name for the healer in the Orisha system) suggests, this package has taken on a diverse world music approach. The original mix opens with crystal clear vocals that compliment the wide array of live drums featured throughout. The mix comes into its own with the addition of atmospheric underlying keys and melodic guitar riffs. The club cut comes with a more pronounced, driving beat clearly meant for the floor and features well-crafted jazz-like piano lines sure to capture listeners in a trance. Le Soleil’s mix uses a smooth bass line that takes charge of the track and is complimented by a rhythm guitar and a hint of ambient keys that add fullness and depth to this cut. Moyuba has provided us with a seamlessly crafted dub that edges on the border of tech house and is as club ready as they come. Finally, the Cosmic dub brings this release to a close with a slow, rolling bass line, drawn out atmospheric synths and well placed stabs that will keep the room moving into the early morning. More
