Off The Meds is a Swedish-South African crew based in Stockholm, consisting of producers Adrian Lux, Carli
Löf and Måns Glaeser with vocalist Kamohelo Khoaripe. Belter is their first full solo release, arriving on
Studio Barnhus 7 months after the band's low-slung, ethio-jazz-influenced hip-house burner Currency Low
appeared as one of the standouts of 2018's much-lauded label compilation Studio Barnhus Volym 1.
A relentlessly catchy party starter, Belter combines classic rave elements with cutting edge production
techniques and Kamo's pitch-shifted rapid-fire vocals.
Already a key feature in recent sets by the Studio Barnhus posse as well as London top selector Joy O, the
latter took it upon himself to remix the track, turning it into an extended broken techno trip, a few shades
darker and dubbier than the original.
Both vinyl and digital releases come with a full acapella version for all the daredevil djs out there!

Alex Bilancini returns to Etruria Beat following the success of 2018’s ‘Crack of Doom’ EP, with his new ‘Oblivion’ EP featuring three cavernous cuts backed by an impressive remix from talented French producer Blicz.
One of Italy’s rising talents within Techno, guided by Etruria Beat owner and fellow Tuscany favourite Luca Agnelli, Alex Bilancini’s sharp rise has seen him gain the attention of many whilst performing across a number of his home nations key establishments from Tenax to Kindergarten. Having released his ‘Crack Of Doom’ EP on the label last year, here we see the young Italian return to Eturia Beat to deliver his second full EP on the imprint, whilst rising talent Blicz also makes a return to step up on remix duties.
Title track ‘Oblivion’ combines heavy kick drums and marching percussion, whilst sweeping builds and releases of energy and suspense throughout maximise the production's dancefloor impact, whilst ‘Segments’ is dominated by eerie and haunting pads, escalating in the break to provide an epic feeling to the ensemble. ‘Eternal Rise’ follows armed with dark synths, raw drums and sharp 909 rhythms that encapsulate Bilancini’s trademark style, before Blicz’s interpretation concludes the vinyl release package as the French producer expresses his own raw and powerful style, backed by a heavy groove and punchy drums to reveal an imposing drive throughout.

Cologne is Danny Lane and Vasilios Manoudakis - a photographer and a ship captain who
make songs together. Vasilios works as a boat’s captain in New York while Danny stays
landlocked, producing tracks and hustling work as a photographer/actor in Los Angeles.
The two communicate with one another through music, sending loops and snippets from
wherever they happen to be, independently writing pieces of songs that smoothly snap into
place. Throughout this, the two share a thing for synths and classic pop, creating songs that
are warm, relaxed, and inescapably catchy. Though their influences range from 80s dance
music to minimal house and ambient music, they see Cologne as something new and have a
very pure idea of success: “If people like it, we are happy.” Vinyl tastes better...

We’ve got some good news for those hip shakin’, booty breakin’ lovers of bumpy house music: Fouk are back on Heist. Their new Truffles EP is packed with swinging goodness and comes with a jazzy Hugo LX remix.

After a busy period last year, Fouk have taken the time to experiment in their studio, focusing on expanding their sound and releasing only a handful of tunes. Their ‘Mating Call’ EP on their own label Outplay saw them explore the deeper side of things, while remixes for artists like Joey Negro on his own Z Records alongside Ron Trent saw them show off their production skills with a superb hi tech funk track.

Nearly 2 years after their ‘With Lasers’ EP, we now give you the ‘Truffles’ EP. The A-side kicks off with the title track and instantly shows you a new side of Fouk. ‘Truffles’ is their take on what ravey piano house should sound like and it’s funky as hell. Meanwhile, ‘I’ll be down’ is about as Fouk as you can get. With their ever so sexy percussion, a moody vocal and synthy sprinkles all around, you hear so much of what makes their music so energetic and inspiring.

On the flip, ‘Need my Space’ sounds like something you’d hear if Pépé Bradock and Charles Webster would get together in the studio: dreamy synth lines, lovely textures and weird electronics over an ever so sexy bassline.

The remix on this EP comes from Parisian artist Hugo LX, whose love for soulful electronic music and jazz are perfectly presented in his remix of ‘I’ll be down’. His version is filled with shimmering leads, synth hits and some lovely horns for good measure. For us, this is a case of jazzy deep house at its best.

Each track of Oberst & Buchner's debut album "Sfumato" is rich with anticipation and residue - it feels like being taken on a very controlled journey through space and time by another life form. The two friends and musicians from Vienna and Berlin shift themes and melodies gradually into one another, producing billowing pieces of music with soft and foggy outlines. Just like you can get lost in the perfection of a single brush stroke in a renaissance painting from up close, if you step away you can't help but admire the planning, skill and instinct coming together in this album and every single track. The two producers almost seem to make use of the sounds that are not there, triggering our expectations and creating premonitions in our minds.

The complex sound patterns are frequently juxtaposed by simple, almost naive melodies that make everything feel innately known but alien at the same time. On "Eye Liquor" the feature guest Tobias Koett brings just the right amount of fragility and humanity to offset the moodily awakening fantastic sonic beast beneath. With analogue sounds the two celebrate the past and the future, creating murmuring, breathing streams of consciousness. We couldn't be more excited to see where the travels lead.

For sheer roof-raising energy, they were unrivalled. IMOW, or “In My Own Wave” is a moody record. Although overtly experimental in form, it’s quite different
to Sienkiewicz’s abstract, improvisational albums recorded with Max Loderbauer or AtomTM.
Clocking in only 35 minutes and comprising of eight tracks, “IMOW” is several years of work distilled
into a dense, concise whole.
Atmospheric, cinematic, stirring and utterly engaging, this is surely Sienkiewicz’s most personal work
to date and very possibly his best: his constant struggle to find a perfect balance of flesh and machine,
or to translate human emotions to sound by means of a modern studio is manifested here in its purest,
most consistent and, surprisingly, very accessible form. From subtle drones, through chants and
rhythms echoing in mountainous chambers, to innumerable insect-like sounds and tiny details, it’s an
encephalogram recorded to tape (or disk). With all its complexity, it’s not overwhelming: the meticulously
constructed compositions leave both space for the sounds to breathe, and for the listener to
fully experience it, without being bored, tired, wishing for less or being hungry for more. And there’s
beauty in this record, and hope - in the world of overpowering darkness and constant noise “IMOW”
feels like a peaceful trip into the untouched nature with all its wonders - offering in equal parts rest,
strength and inspiration.

Stefan Smith has channeled an elevated reverence for process, texture and synth-extrapolation with the forthcoming release of his self-titled LP on the Sapiens imprint. A relative new-comer to the land of rapid fire releases and dance floor formulae, Smith is deeply steeped in the art of music creation, performance and theory. As a graduate of Mills College's revered music department, Smith's prosaic understanding of music partially explains his migration to Sapiens, a label headquartered in Paris, France, which, under the direction of techno luminary, Agoria, has been expanding the realm of possibility for what a techno label can become. Collaborating with musicians, visual artists, film directors, shamans and sound designers, the young Sapiens platform releases may include "political speeches, radio hits, dance floor tunes, sensorial or cognitive music or a gentle computer virus". Smith's LP contribution will definitely fall on the more delicious end of this spectrum, having woven a synth-lovers dream tapestry. ?
The nine tracks composing the album, "Stefan Smith", draw the listener in on a river of oscillators, which push just past the banks of perceptible sound with with flawless production and loving sound treatment. The idea behind the album is very raw and organic. Stefan Smith focuses on atmosphere, mood, tones, and frequencies, rather than melodies. His productions are a response to the subliminal, and about feeling.

This album came together from a natural flow of working with computers and synthesisers, and also from the musical connection fostered Sebastien Devaud (Agoria). His approach to the album's production was to edit as little as possible, keeping the original feeling of chance and temporality intact. We can sense here Smith's intuition as sound designer, a role which has enabled him to work with artist Nicolas Becker and through this association further contribute work to the Philippe Parreno 'Anywhen' exhibition in Tate Modern Turbine Hall. The feedback generated by studio experimentation gives birth to new ideas for aural shapes and textures. If one were only to lie back and identify the various wave forms, like butterflies and birds flittering through dappled sunlight, in each track's canopy of bountiful synth elements the mind's eye would dance with the steady intervals of Smith's real-time probe of his machinery; however, deep tracts of emotion and effortless grooves won't allow for a purely sensory listen. It’s been seven years since Smallpeople’s debut album, ‘Salty Days’. In the time since, much has changed in our world of dance music, and, so we hear, even beyond. Yet our men in Hamburg have remained dedicated to their unapologetically reassuring vision of house music as-a-whole. As well as expanding their Smallville Records shop in Hamburg’s St. Pauli, they’ve continued to act on their direct-line to the beating heart of house music at some of the world’s finest clubs, including their monthly residency at Hamburg’s legendary Golden Pudel, inviting guests such as Lakuti, Session Victim and Pantha Du Prince into the warmest dance in the grimiest club. Of course, all these manoeuvres sit alongside their work running Smallville Records, home to the likes of Moomin, STL and Christopher Rau, and it’s sub-label, Fuck Reality.
Given Julius Steinhoff and Dionne’s stewardship in filtering the creme-de-la-creme of house music from the underground and into clubs across Europe and further afield, it would be particularly cliched on this occasion to stress that their second record is “eagerly awaited.” In their own way, they have already given us enough great records. But with ‘Afterglow’, we get another, and more importantly, one carved directly from the hearts and record collections of two individuals whose understanding of dance music appears to be some sort of blissful second-nature.
This sort of earned assuredness is immediately established on opening track ‘Magic Interference’, a rolling, deep and somewhat jazzy house number with tumbling keys and sky-walkin’ chords. This steady, blissful vibe sets the tone for the first half of the record, as the pair patiently unfold their touchstones; equal parts Chicago (‘Hearts at Whole’), Detroit (‘All States of Dawn’) and Hamburg, famed for it's transatlantic routes via groundbreaking clubs such as Front, it's a crystalline distillation of a sound that’s earnest, but never nostalgic.
Intuitive selectors as they are, Smallpeople pick the ideal moment to up the pace for the home-run, defined here by the spiky, disco bassline of ‘Beyond’, an unexpected ingredient that Steinhoff and Dionne nevertheless manage to diffuse into spacedust. It’s a brilliant wrong footing before the wide-eyed, warm-hearted anthem-in-waiting, ‘Sonic Winds’, a wonderfully cheeky glimpse of Smallpeople as peak time heroes, before the acid-flecked shuffle of Benevolent Reciever reveals their spiritual soundboy side.
In conclusion, title track ‘Afterglow’ surmises the generous spirit at the heart of Smallpeople’s operation; a sensitive and irresistible ode to record stores, parties, community and discovery. So, worth that seven year wait? Who cares about time, when your music’s this timeless?
