Apollo is proud to welcome Paul Frick to the fold. Frick is a Berlin-born music composer primarily known as one part of the group Brandt Brauer Frick. Stunningly despite a 20+ year history of making music 'Second Yard Botanicals' is his debut album. With BBF keeping Frick inspired and busy since 2009, other ideas had piled up until a temporary break allowed him to fully dive into them. Exploring a vast number of instruments, field recording and deconstructed breakbeats woven with undulating filters and gossamer melodies, the album sees Frick drawing on the world around him in a free associative style . 'Second Yard Botanicals' at its core is based on sonic collage, from a genre point of view it's highly eclectic, remotely echoing Frick's classical composition background as well as his hip hop / trip hop past. Recorded in the band's shared studio space in Neukölln and mixed by bandmate Jan Brauer the whole project was kept in house. "We are surrounded by a bunch of other musicians and artists in the second backyard, who share their ideas, parts of their lives and often their equipment." These musicians and others feature heavily on the record, incorporating a laundry list of sumptuous sounds

The French trio Evergreen (previously name ‘We Are Evergreen’) grew up listening to pop music from the US and the UK. Yet, like many of the most influential artists of today’s French pop scene (Fishbach, Halo Maud, etc.) they value both French and English to deliver their message. This new album ‘Overseas’ was recorded with Ash Workman (François & The Atlas Mountains, Metronomy, Christine And The Queens), and see the band use a warm sound loaded with synthesizers and draw influences from the likes of Django Django, AIR or Metronomy to craft percussive electro-pop songs.

Setaoc Mass’ fourth record for Figure displays a level of maturity an artist this young rarely inhabits. Two tracks feature his ability to craft finely layered IDM, showing another perspective of the ideas behind the cavernous techno taking up the rest of this EP.
Nestled between the electronica-pieces is Torque, heavy yet undeniably beautiful with its big breaks towards ascension, moving effortlessly despite its weight. David Mayer’s career and background is marked by a desire to keep moving and experiencing new perspectives. Having finally settled in Berlin, the German DJ and producer has built up an enviously diverse back catalogue on labels such as Connected Frontline, Objektivity, Gruuv, Audiomatique and Keinemusik. With his first release on Acid Pauli and Nico Stojan’s Ouie label, Mayer brings his trademark groove to the fore once more.

'The Call' is a mid tempo chugger built around a kick, clap and 808 blip, before a more organic groove develops. The slowed down chants and wigged out synth line take the vibe into afro cosmic territory, without losing the original energy.

'Sooner' is a little more urgent - a crisp, forward leaning rhythm and a deep, subby bass lead the way, before another frazzled synthesiser takes us on a melodic walkabout.

'Black Queen' is another example of Mayer’s slick drum programming, keeping things zesty on the dance floor but with acres of space to lose yourself in.

When you think about italian crime movies, one of the first names to get to your mind is probably Franco Micalizzi, the maestro behind terrific and unforgettable soundtracks like Napoli violenta and Italia a mano armata. Through all is carrier, nonetheless, there's room also for some less known, but still mentionable works. Micalizzi, during the seventies apart from his classic works, has taken part and made the soundtrack also for erotic movies. One of them is Adolescenza Perversa. The two sexy characters of the movie (Femi Benussi and Marisa Longo) move to the rhythm of wonderful orchestrations, beat scratches, persuasive tunes and the funky beat, a real trademark of the roman composer.

We Release Jazz is delighted to present the official reissue of the original soundtrack of Jean-Pierre Melville's 1970 film noir classic Le Cercle Rouge (starring Alain Delon, Bourvil, Gian Maria Volontè, and Yves Montand) composed by French soundtrack master Eric Demarsan, available on limited edition 180g vinyl LP mastered at half speed and including 4 bonus tracks not available on previous pressings of the album.

Eric Demarsan's compositions for Le Cercle Rouge draw from the orchestral spirit of the Modern Jazz Quartet (as requested by Melville who loved John Lewis' work), abstraction and minimalism to create a suspenseful and hypnotizing audio landscape which elegantly underlines the tense atmosphere of unavoidable fate that shrouds the movie and the doleful beauty of its characters. Simply put, it's the finest combination of underworld existentialism, coldblooded chic, and crime jazz!

Le Cercle Rouge boasts the participation of celebrated jazz players Guy Pedersen (bass), Daniel Humair (drums), Georges Arvanitas (piano), and Bernard Lubat (vibraphone).

Starting as a collaborator of François de Roubaix and Michel Magne in the 60s, Eric Demarsan went on to become a mainstay of French cinema soundtracks, composing for directors such as Jean-Pierre Mocky, Costa-Gavras, and Patrice Leconte among others. He also recorded the cult album Pop Symphony (for Pierre Cardin in 1970) under the Jason Havelock pseudonym.

Jockey Club, Salinas, Ibiza, The Sunset Sessions Vol 6 is a collaboration between the Ibiza beach institution Jockey Club and Music For Dreams label owner Kenneth Bager. Jockey Club was launched as a restaurant on Ibiza's legendary Salinas beach in 1993 with the spirit of a lively, original chiringuito (outdoor bar). The bar has become infamous for its DJs who create a laidback, sandy soundtrack every day from 3pm until sunset.Kenneth Bager is Denmark's most prodigious DJ, and a global torchbearer for Balearic and chilled sounds. Together with his Music For Dreams label he has helped to re-popularise chillout music in its spiritual home of Ibiza. Kenneth is also the music curator and promoter of the Apple Flower Festival as well as the internationally renowned Coma Club in Copenhagen. He also hosts a weekly show on Ibiza Sonica and Los Angeles station Dublab plus he has just launched his own streaming radio station & app 'Music For Dreams radio' on: Musicfordreams.dk. Since its inception, the label has sold over 2 million albums and their artists have been featured on more than 1500 different compilations worldwide.

Aussteiger is a Berlin based German DJ / Producer. He runs the Dub Disco label in Berlin and DJ's around the world. Zusammenkunft is his debut album released on Copenhagen's Music For Dreams. Once upon a time a golden boy came back from the shadows. Rumors were told that he once left the big city in a time where the music scene and clubs were dominated by cold music and average beats. He left behind civilisation, living withdrawn in the woody mountains of a covert place. From there on people talked about him as Aussteiger. Connected to the nature and deeply rooted in the harmonic essence, Aussteiger became a part of the great whole. In a full moon illuminated clear night while experimenting with various unique herbs he accidentally found a recipe to create warm and ravishing music.
He firmly believes that music is his infinite source to gather strength and positive energy After years of strengthening himself and shaping vibrant sounds Aussteiger decided to share his delightful music with the world. He returned from his retreat in order to enchant the music lovers all over the world with his feel good approach and supernatural sounds. Coming back to the city, he also co-founded the awesome Dub Disco Label with his buddy Serj Nosé.
