Canadian producer Clarian delivers three melodic house numbers on his new ‘Kill For Love EP’ on Anjunadeep, supported by Sasha, Guy Gerber, Axel Boman and Lee Burridge. Previously one half of Footprintz, Clarian has released on on Visionquest, Turbo, Life and Death and Culprit as a solo artist, not to mention his acclaimed collaborations with Guy Gerber and Seth Troxler. When not A&Ring Troxler’s Soft Touch imprint, a discography he’s inaugurated with this ‘If There Light At The End’ release, Clarian is a prominent figure in Berlin’s nightlife scene when he’s not trotting the globe between Paris, Dubai, Montreal, New York and London. First up ‘Kill For Love’ kicks off the package with tantalising keys and mournful vocals, wrapped around a surging acid bassline. ‘Lucid Dreamers’ employs yet more acid licks and ebbing chords, whilst a spoken word sample floats softly above elegant rising melodies. ‘I Was Born In Outer Space’ concludes the EP with a trippy journey through otherworldly pads, undulating bassline and as a heady vox sings blissfully throughout

The length & breadth of Offbeat’s tastes also reflects his flexibility as a producer. Tracks presented here, such as “Good Thing” strike a fine balance between good ol’ Motor City funk and Chi-Town oddities such as Vincent Floyd’s more obscure cuts on D.M, while the velocity increasing “Solange” comes like the result of a three-day Theo studio session fuelled by bad speed. Emerald City, the newest label venture from Jamie Jones and Lee Foss delivers a majestic second release with a new collaboration between Jamie Jones himself, DJ/composer Kate Simko & London Electronic Orchestra featuring the vocals of Jem Cooke. Kate Simko launched her London Electronic Orchestra project in 2014 and have since sold out concerts at the Britten Theatre, National Gallery, and opened the iTunes Festival 2014. Featuring live instrumentation from harp, violins, cellos, and upright bass, they create intimate atmospherics and indelible frequencies in ‘One Time Game’, a beautiful classic that is paired with a raw 909 club mix. Kate Simko and Jem Cooke first teamed up for their hit song ‘Go On Then’ that topped the charts in house music in 2012, and subsequently released tracks on Get Physical and No. 19. Jamie invited Kate to play at his Boiler Room in Ibiza last summer, where ‘One Time Game’ was first performed alongside a string quartet and harp. The track was finished in London at Jamie’s studio. Widely regarded as the leader of the new sound of house, Jamie Jones is renowned for his pioneering music; his cross genre band, Hot Natured; his ground-breaking label, Hot Creations; and his world-renowned event series, Paradise. Kate Simko has carved an international career as an electronic music producer, film composer, live performer, and DJ. Getting her start on Ghostly alongside Matthew Dear and Ryan Elliot, Kate has since released on Get Physical, Hello?Repeat, Leftroom, and No. 19, and was named one of Chicago’s Top 10 DJs by XLR8R. This fall Kate has an album upcoming on Sasha’s label Last Night on Earth, and her debut London Electronic Orchestra EP on the Vinyl Factory. Jem Cooke is a singer-songwriter from London, recently signed to Sony ATV through Naughty Songs.The artwork was created by Peter Nudo who was also used for the previous Emerald City release.

Her first release since last year's ‘Wait Til’ Night' album, which featured synths and live instruments meshed with Cooly's vocals, this EP by contrast presents five tracks of house music, the Cooly G way : stripped down to the essentials, dark, and built for maximum soundsystem impact. These tunes have a steely grid more common to techno, but at house's slower pace. Kicking off is the moody 'Trippin B', with a spiralling three note bassline and a quick dubbed out sample of Cooly's voice, over tough rolling drums, finessing the art of keeping it simple and effective. ‘Booboo’ is all shivery male / female vocal samples and slip-sliding drum patterns that subtly warp and transition. 'Flange City' runs a see-sawing acidic five note scale over shaky, spacious claps, a rolling drum pattern and a deep sub bass kick. ‘Waybay’ featuring Marc Perrineau is the most straight-up track here, a spooky dive into scratchy, scissoring rhythms, with a subtle panning melody over dubby bass. 'Horrors In The Dance' is a wild workout, with strange shapes thrown across bouncing drums that stop and start, build and drop with dub sirens thrown into the deep spaces in between. ‘Armz House’ is powerful and direct return to the dancefloor for Cooly G. Parisian Popof releases the second single from his stunning artist album ‘Love Somebody’ on Hot Creations. ‘Going Back feat. Arno Joey’ is also a collaboration with Animal & Me with a feast of remixes on offer. Following in the same suit as the first single from the album, ‘Going Back’ also features the voice of Arno Joey and is a superior piece of electronic music with great crossover appeal. His releases can be found on labels such as Pets Recordings, Hypercolour and Southern Fried. after unleashing their much-acclaimed new full-length RESTLESS (KOMPAKT 327 CD 123), famed house project TERRANOVA didn't lean back - but started looking for friends and allies to touch up key tracks from the album. The result is this first volume of revamps, RESTLESS REMIXE 1, featuring excellent contributions from DANNY DAZE, RE.YOU and ADAM PORT. Selecting the right source material probably wasn't easy, with strong cuts abounding, but the album's opener TELL ME WHY was kind of a given: a cooperation with Terranova's old pals STEREO MC'S, this one felt so good that both bands have even joined forces to record a whole album together - more info coming soon. Miami's finest Danny Daze injects the original with flamboyant edginess, thanks to an epic, iridescent break and propelling drums - some serious bonus oomph that will leave the crowd reeling. A second remix of "Tell Me Why" comes from Re.You, engineering a hypnotic belter full of snappy percussion and weapon-grade bass - it's the latest floor success for the Berlin-based producer after his SPEICHER 86 release. With UNDERVERSE featuring MANDEL TURNER, another album highlight gets the remix treatment: Adam Port's take is a slick pusher that puts an extended house spin on things. And because Mandel Turner's vocals were so powerful, fans are treated to an acapella version to wrap up the release.

Alongside fellow members of Berlin's Janus collective, recently behind nights at Berghain and Corsica Studios, M.E.S.H. is known for his futurist approach to club dynamics and production. On Piteous Gate, tightly gridded and sculpted sound juts up against loose-wristed improvisation, automated processes, and collage. Standard club syncopation is twisted by sliding tempos, cut and paste time signatures, and indeterminate pacing. Its sound design and compositions are ornate, even courtly, with neo- feudal moods offset by the recurrence of hydraulic hiss and flanger. A synthetic fuel injector revs opener 'Piteous Gate' to life. Drawing from action- scifi film trailers and the sound design of festival trance, its hardcore synthlines shatter into 'Optimate'-stately, spatial, and whiplash-luxurious, with meandering cybernetic drumming. 'Thorium' sends a slow-motion camera through a melting test reactor: all burnt VSTs and synthetic theorbo and loose drums. 'The Black Pill' smears high-end renaissance sample libraries through arcs of static. In 'Epithet,' temple sewer atmospheres are ruptured by 'Scythians'-style cut-up drums. 'Jester's Visage' indulges a minute-long baroque guitar improv, and territorial youths air their beef in 'Kritikal & X.' Closing out the album, 'Methy Imbiß' is a machinic rhythm track, and 'Azov Seepage' mingles birdlike granular noises with rusted steel clanging. The LP was recorded in Berlin in winter 2015, mastered and cut by Rashad Becker at D&M, and pressed on 140g LP and CD.

The third and (for now) final chapter of the big book of the Woolfy vs Projections (aka Simon James and Dan Hastie) saga has begun. "Stations" completes the trilogy, which started with the two previous albums: "The Astral Projections Of Starlight" from 2008 and "The Return Of Love" in 2012. The concept of the albums by the California-based band are all loosely based on the adventures of the lost astronaut Captain Starlight, who is the hero in a Zazu track, a notorious Balearic rock classic which also set the bench mark for the sound of Woolfy vs Projections: a deep Balearic twilight vibe combined with a classic west coast sound, dubbed disco, beard rock and a heavy funk bounce. Tracks like "Absynth" (described by Resident Advisor as "Air covering Steely Dan"), "Neeve" or "Set Me Loose" can all be considered as modern classics of genre. "Stations" is perfecting the technique to filter a psychedelic folk album through modern day disco aesthetic. Whether it's spaced out house jams like "Combination" and "Tangiers", or the idyllic vibes of "Walkaway" or "The Bright Light Of The Truth", a hazy mood stretches over 10 tracks, plus a careful reconstruction of "Who" a Balearic classic from Odyssey that brings the listener into a state of bliss. "Stations" is not only the last resort of Captain Starlight but also a graceful end to this space epos.

Cowboy Rhythmbox return to Phantasy with a new set of recordings, following last year's celebrated debut two-side, 'We Got The Box' and ‘Rattle’, which gained international DJ support from the likes of Barnt, Carl Craig, Seth Troxler, Roman Flugel, Kim-Ann Foxman, Jackmaster and Lena Willikens, as well as featuring on Erol Alkan's acclaimed Fabriclive 77. Fantasma's distinctive three tracks continue from where Cowboy Rhythmbox left us; a trident forged from the sweat of a thousand lost nights spent dishevelled beneath tarnished mirror balls. ‘Fantasma’ takes it's cue from early sample fetishists Yello, a compelling, sensual and rather muscular piece of industrial house music underpinned with a series of mesmerising, cavernous breakdowns. This is the sound of a ride on the worlds biggest ghost train, the ultimate drug for morbid thrill seekers. ‘The Natives Are Having Us For Dinner Tonight’ drops the the tempo, but maintains the intensity. Militant 21st century exotica, heavily percussive fourth world music , an atonal hymn to found sounds and lost souls. A track very much inspired by Nathan's marathon DJ sets at Salon Des Amauters, the cult club in Dussledorf, home to one of the most legendarily open-minded dancefloors on the planet. Finally, ‘Latin Sex Change’ melds a primitive drum machine with the sound of metal on metal, while mechanically altered vocal elements assist in creating a brutal and robust DJ tool, bringing aspects of EBM, early Chicago House and exotica to the fore once again. It's well known that People's Potential Unlimited boss Andrew Morgan has some serious crate digging skills. Even so, he continues to amaze with the obscurity and quality of the releases he chooses to reissue. Serious collectors have long sought out "Let's Ride" by guitarist Willie Lee Jnr under his occasional Junei alias. Originally released on 7" back in 1987, it's a killer chunk of synthesizer-heavy electrofunk blessed with some serious eyes-closed guitar solo action. Flipside "You Must Go On" - originally the A-side of the '87 release - is fantastic, too, offering a near perfect blend of sun-kissed Balearic attitude and smooth '80s soul grooves.

So, what awaits you on the second edition of a compilation that claims in a winking to present “ambient race car music”? Exactly what it says on the tin. A fresh and exclusive collection of music that hopefully sounds as great in a car as it will in the comfort zone of your own living-room or during dusk and dawn in your favorite club environment (see Bicep and Fort Romeau for further reference). But first and foremost it is truly inspired by many trips on the Autobahn between Frankfurt and Heidelberg. Going to and fro from one club to the other, was the way to spend countless hours of adolescence in excitement instead of tedious purposelessness. But I will not bother you with droll stories of my youth. Musik for Autobahns 2 is the result of a collective effort by dear friends and esteemed colleagues who picked up where the first one ended, while paying attention to the prevailing theme. From Leon Vynehall and his profound research of the BAB 5 to Joy Orbison's “A 213” or Lauer's heartfelt and wry Kraftwerk pastiche, all of the tracks have a certain compatibility in common or just sound great, while having a drive. “Breaking” by AKSK for instance made the stop-and-go traffic in the blazing heat of Los Angeles so much more bearable (the vintage Volvo helped as well). Also, you will meet freshmen like Orson Wells, whose idea of traveling exceeds the boundaries of our planet, next to a grey eminence like Orlando Voorn (on the compact disc edition of this at least) or elusive characters like Disco Nihilist. All bringing their special skills and imagination to the table.

UK techno founders B12 return! The duo's history famously started in the early 90's with their music appearing under a plethora of monikers under the "B12 Records" umbrella - 12" vinyl with notorious cryptic messages engraved in the run-out grooves, before being collected into album form and release on Warp. After a hiatus in the late 90's, the pair resurfaced briefly for some live shows, a flurry of hugely sought-after 12"s and a 7-part CD anthology. They then abruptly disappeared again - this is their first appearance in 5 years, fittingly on Glaswegian imprint Soma. (Their seminal Warp Records album was named Electro Soma...is there a connection?) The Bokide 325 EP Is it a planet to be explored, or the journey through a personal hell? Only a few know for sure but at the end of this voyage expressed in the best way B12 know how, layers of sounds, beats, synths, lush pads, and seductive melodies the hope of a whole new reality is reached. It conjures up foreboding, planetary soundscapes - rooted in the more ambient, filmic side of their output, is it a reflection of recent turmoil within/ the artists personal lives? The EP opens with "Into the Void", whose simple but emotive synth line weaves its way across a variety of beats and sounds, and takes the listener into the depths where the true journey can commence. Onwards, darker and more mysterious notes loom up throughout "Descension" and "Unsound Mind", with pounding bass throbbing underneath, leading further into the world of shadows where the alarming awareness that something isn't quite right never truly leaves you. It concludes with Terra Incognita, the final track of the EP - an unknown place, left to be discovered and completed by the listener.

A Double Dutch mixture of Industrial and Detroit techno, lacing Acid House with some of the liveliest oppositional ideas of the time, about art, nature and politics. From the same neck of the enchanted forest as Psychic TV and Coil… but this album is kicking dance music. Originally released on cassette in 1989. Reissued in silk-screened sleeves, with notes by Reinoud. Great, bracing stuff. “We are very interested in the methods of ‘those primitive peoples’ who used dance throughout the ages, as a celebration of life or a way to communicate with spirits. To be spiritual is a strange word now but you can break the structures of conditioning with that physical experience. That’s the side we’re interested in.”

New to the Stay Underground It Pays gang, the eighth release on the label comes from none other than Octo Octa! You know him from his prolific run on 100% Silk, and more recently for his EP on Gerd Janson’s Running Back label at the top of the year. The man from Brooklyn serves up 4 slices of that U.S. experimental house sound we love so much. On the A side, we have two versions of Octo Octa’s melancholic title track, Requiem for the Body. Both as good as the other, it’s gonna be split for a lot of listeners on which is better. While both versions share certain elements, the second plays down the long keys of the first versions in favour of some stabby chord patterns. Either way, proper 4 a.m. business!On the flip, we get a bit more ethereal with Times Two (Loose Version). Simple yet effective, this one has a lot of atmosphere with those delayed vocal cuts over that late 80s bassline. Closing out the record is When Home. This one is a bit of a stomper at first until it brings in the lighter synth elements halfway through. Someone, somewhere will have an epiphany listening to this track. If it’s you reading this, send in the results on the back of a postcard. All in all, another killer release that feels straight at home in the Stay Underground It Pays catalogue.

The Vinyl Factory and Planet Mu link up for the vinyl edition of µ20. Trailblazing UK label Planet Mu recently announced it would celebrate 20 years of life with µ20, a 50-track compilation of old and new unreleased tracks and remixes on CD and digital. Now, The Vinyl Factory is proud to present an 18-track vinyl edition of µ20, spread across three 12? records. For a label that’s existed in an orbit of its own, on very independent terms, it’s remarkable that Planet Mu has survived 20 years. Nozinja is Richard Mthetwa, an electronic music producer based in the Limpopo province of South Africa, and the charismatic architect of the Shangaan electro sound. From its roots as the frantic heartbeat of Nozinja’s rural locale, where dancers convene at weekly street parties, bouncing on their heels and shaking their bell-like xibelani skirts in the ferocious heat, Shangaan electro has become a recognised genre in its own right, a burgeoning, radicalising influence on dance music worldwide. Explosive, ecstatic and celebratory, it’s the head-spinning collision of the soulful traditional song of the Shangaan people with the high-speed energy and limitless possibilities of cutting-edge music production, and it has ensnared the ears and limbs of dancers, beatmakers and DJs alike. Micachu is the stage name of Mica Levi, a singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist. Levi's music, experimental pop, is a boundary-blurring mix of hip-hop-tinged beats, found sound samples, singalong melodies, rock guitar, and the odd vacuum cleaner or two. Micachu is now producing music with old school friend, Tirzah who has released some of the most intriguing dance-pop to date. Mumdance, aka Jack Adams, a producer and DJ from Brighton, whose trademark raw, riotous rhythms – drawn from Grime, UK funky, Brazilian baile funk, Caribbean calypso, American Baltimore Gutter, Afro-beat, High life, and Latin ghetto music such as tribal guarachero – have been electrifying dancefloors worldwide over the last couple of years, providing him with a hectic DJ schedule which criss-crosses the globe from Australia, Mexico, North America, Europe & all over the UK. The Vinyl Factory has partnered American multi-media artist Doug Aitken and the Barbican to bring his acclaimed 'Station to Station: A 30 Day Happening' to the UK for a month-long, building-wide, art intervention, from Saturday 27 June - Sunday 26 July For the duration of the event, which features residencies, installations, live performances, workshops, screenings and more, The Vinyl Factory has created The Vinyl Factory Recording Studio to provide a space for musicians and artists to experiment and improvise and has installed The Vinyl Factory Press on-site to manufacture these recordings into vinyl editions.

4 tracks of solarized muscular techno… Berlin-based producer Setaoc Mass is next to appear on Spencer Parker's Work Them roster with four commanding techno numbers in 'The M Scale' EP. Real name Sam Coates, Setaoc Mass was born and raised in Manchester and now resides in Berlin where he's appeared on the radar of fellow expat Spencer Parker... Kicking off the EP is which Man Ray' which kicks in with crunchy snares and a hypnotising riff, the next track 'Movement' unloads a viscous low-end alongside a metallic synth and ominous atmospherics. First up on the B side is 'Ulterior Motive' which triggers the release by unleashing a torrent of cavernous kicks whilst tantalising melodies add to the escalating energy, before 'Manifesto' erupts with uncompromising arpeggios accompanied by infectious claps and subtle stabs until rounding off a fine EP from Setaoc Mass..
