Early August will see the Martinez Brothers Cuttin’ Headz imprint return with a five-track EP from Luke Solomon, featuring remixes from Byron The Aquarius and Filsonik.
Although only marking its seventh release here the Cuttin’ Headz imprint has carved out quite the reputation already with its most recent output, a collaboration between label-heads Martinez Brothers and Miss Kittin garnering huge support from both underground and commercial tastemakers. Here though we see the label reach out to one of underground house music’s most revered producers, namely Luke Solomon, co-founder of The Classic Music Company alongside Derrick Carter and a name synonymous with raw, authentic and soulful electronic music. The Vocal Mix of ‘Script kicks things off and sees Solomon deliver a typically unique take on modern house music via crunchy rhythms, deftly flowing bass sequences and an ever-evolving dynamic while Nick Maurer’s murky vocal stylings are intricately processed to further fuel the tripped-out hypnotic feel of the record. ‘Beats Work’ follows and lays the focus on bumpy percussion, a heady 303 lead, sporadic synth fills and a hooky vocal lick to create an understated dance floor workout.
Atlanta’s Byron The Aquarius turns in a dreamy interpretation of ‘Script’ to follow, employing mesmeric bell chimes and soft atmospherics to swell around the foundation of the original composition before New York’s Filsonik strips things back to the core his rough and ready 808 led rework. The package is then closed with a ‘Long Time Dub’ from Luke focusing solely on the driving energy of the record.

One of house music’s true originators, Todd Terry was first discovered by pioneering New York house imprint Fourth Floor Records. Now the label has collected four of his earliest and most essential productions on to one 12” vinyl. The A-side houses a pair of tracks created under his Black Riot alias in 1988, both featuring his trademark raw, jacking drums. The unmistakable rave stabs on ‘A Day In The Life’ were to reappear on countless hardcore records – testament to the track’s influence – whilst the cut-and-paste sample patchwork of ‘Warlock’ defines the house sound of that era. Meanwhile, the B-side features two tracks as Masters At Work, a moniker that Todd would later pass on to his friends ‘Little’ Louie Vega and Kenny ‘Dope’ Gonzalez. Both ‘Alright Alright’ and ‘Dum Dum Cry’, originally released in 1987, exhibit Terry’s musical roots, combining hip-hop breakbeats, powerful electro-funk and playful freestyle melodies in his inimitable style.

Columbian producer Paulo Olarte has been a long time friend and affiliate of the Galaktika imprint having been releasing with the label since it’s early years a decade ago amongst further output for the likes of Liebe Detail and Diynamic. Here we see him back on Galaktika with his new long player, set for release in September via a special vinyl edition with a digital release to follow. Across the ‘El Escandalo De Tus Ojos’ LP Olarte heavily gives priority to his roots via a running thread of Latin vocal stylings from the man himself throughout, opener ‘Sombras En La Noche’ lays the focus on cosmic synth leads, stabby bass hits and organic percussion before ‘Love En On’ eases into the hypnotic vocals alongside a raw acid tinged feel and sparse rhythms. Throughout the long player Olarte stirs in a bunch of interludes in between the longer tracks in the shape of ‘Roces’, ‘Las Chicas Beautiful’ and ‘El Barrio’ touching a soft lo-fi texture while the core is directed squarely at the dance floor. ‘La Queen’, ‘Solo Dejate Llevar’ and ‘No Puede Ser’ make up the latter and see Paulo deliver a low-slung and playful style of house fuelled by bright synth melodies, hooky vocal licks and natural percussive shots.

Two Parisians, Ivan Smagghe and Tim Paris, exiled in London for the better part of the last ten year set out to re-define space. It's a fine line was born from non-restraint, cultivating its own vision of house music and disco, a paradoxical one, a non-functional one. Their first LP (thought, rebuilt, announced, delayed) reveals itself as a collection of tests, of explorations in the shadows and corners of club culture. These are murky roads where counterfeit goes for gold standard, perfect territory to lose oneself in order to find ones way. Leaving behind the smooth highways of club music, they rode more chaotic trails, with dubious reputation or names: white funk, trance groove, electronic psychedelia, greasy, rock'n'roll... A risky path, ambivalent, proud of accidents, crashes and bad taste, but the only real way to discover virgin grounds on well-trodden terrain. They are writing their own (hi)story. For this album, Tim and Ivan recruited three double agents, the flame of Alex Kapranos, singer of Franz Ferdinand, the mysterious voice of Olivia de Lanzac from cult band Quad Throw Salchow and the pitched down, spectre of label companion C.A.R. Three tweaked but prominent voices, joining in an album that confounds through the coherence of its eclecticism and the rigorous mirage of its style.

He's not what you'd call a prolific producer but the old saying of 'quality over quantity' couldn't ring truer for Marcellis. With just 3 releases in the last 12 years starting with a single on 2004, followed by an EP on Workshop and then his album on Millions Of Moments, any new work is highly anticipated. Its been a long time coming for Nonplus but every bit worth the wait. 3 tracks covering a range of styles from the ice cold analogue quirkiness of 'Sleep', to the bumping 4/4 offering of 'Indigo Skyfold' through to the jazzed out chugger 'Can They Do Tha (G Love Real Raw)' its an honour to have Marcellis as an addition to the catalogue.

Roe Deers is a Lithuanian-based audio-visual project led by Liudas and Oskaras, two besties, often mistaken for brot-hers. We welcome Roe Deers to the Omnidisc family. With their Rush EP. It’s an impressive debut, built around metallic percussion hits, chugging post-punk attitude, tipsy textures and the sound of broken cuckoo clocks. ‘Rush’ is a throbbing dance-floor excursion blessed with an otherworldly atmosphere. It's the musical equivalent of fin-ding a wormhole round the back of a sprawling industrial estate, and then stepping inside to have a look around. Easing out the EP’s post-punk and industrial elements whilst adding a heady air of horror-influenced late night mysticism. Breathe in the rarefied air, and then run for your life.

Seth Troxler’s Play It Say It label looks to Sean Miller for its next essential bit of dance floor dynamite. This 11th firing release on the label features two killer cuts from the Canadian producer. Miller has been turning out taste making tracks on a consistent basis for a decade now. Releasing on Mobilee, Area Remote and Ovum he is no stranger to the best labels out there and this latest missive is another offering that will keep DJs and dancers happy all summer long and beyond. The momentous A Side ‘Tiger Spirit It’ is ten tantalising minutes of deep and seductive house music. Clever drum fills; poised synth stabs and vocal coos all add oil to the groove as playful kicks punch out an infectious pattern below. This is proving to be one of key tracks in Seth’s tracks this summer: ‘It’s driving the crowds wild’. ‘Together’ is less physical but certainly more emotional offering. Playing out perfectly effortlessly, it has swirling pads and trilling chords adding some sensuous summer sunshine to the vibe fuelled house drums below. Troxler has once again unearthed a brilliant release from a talented producer right at the top of his game.

Michele Pinna presents a new LP under a fresh moniker and alter ego, Time Traveler, representing a direct confrontation of the artist's own fear of time as an unrelenting force. The LP, titled ‘I'm Made Of Stars / Journal’, takes inspiration from conversations between Pinna and his father on the topics of galaxies, space and of course, time. These converstions were the starting point for the abstract, futuristic and dark work presented on the new LP. The release also draws on Pinna's artistic interests outside of music, presenting a work not just of sound, but one with a coherent visual aesthetic spanning the physical releases of the LP. This visual aesthetic has taken shape through multiple collaborations with the photograpers, stylists and designers Nicolas Mazzei, Danila Tkachenko, Khourianbeer and Cinzia Araia. The resulting album is a twisting sci-fi journey invoking images of a dystopian galactic future. Pinna takes techno and filters it through his own imagination, dismantling it and rebuilding it with an unheard palette of textures, timbres and rhythms. At times disorientating and chaotic and at others, restrained and delicate, the LP has one foot in dance music and the other in emotional and visionary experimentation. The album will arrive on Pinna's new label, Chronicles Diary, set up specififically for this release which can be considered much like a diary or journal of Pinna's emotions and imaginings of the future. A limited edition vinyl release will come with a fitting physical package much like a real black diary. Inside the sleeve can be found prints that are the product of Pinna's several collaborations, and serve to provide a visual reference point to the futuristic vision of Time Traveler. The standard vinyl release, aimed more at DJs, will come in paper moleskine packaging.

Kim Ann Foxman realigns her vision as a producer in a welcome return to her own New York based Firehouse Recordings label with her '?It's You That Drives Me Wild EP ’ Kim Ann Foxman featured in Pitchfork’s 7 Best Mixes of May 2016 Kim Ann Foxman Fact Mix June 2016. The title track spins an intoxicating groove over Kim Ann’s vocals full of desire and lust, while '?Give It All You Got' ?fuses raw energy and dextrous percussion through h?er confident, evoca?tive words. Close ally and regular cohort Maya Jane Coles seamlessly remixes ‘I?t's You That Drives Me Wild’?w?ith her signature sound. The mood suddenly becomes much tougher during ‘ Magic Window ’ ? wrapping up the latest offering from New York’s finest lady of electronic music. Since creating Firehouse Recordings in conjunction with T?he Vinyl Factory two years ago, Kim Ann has released sporadically on her label, resulting in only highly thought­out and credible music from the imprint. A long standing figure in the New York dance scene, Kim Ann has remixed The XX and collaborated with Anthony Simoncino ´s alias Ron Jason. A regular at Panorama Bar, she continues to tour relentlessly with her high voltage signature style that is both remarkably original and infectious.
