John Shannanigans, - Bounce The Blues
It's been three years since we've heard anything from John Shananigans, fueling a rising tide of speculation and rumor. A blogger in Bozeman, Montana writes of hearing a familiar swung rhythm ("taka-taka taka-taka taka-taka "grunt") wafting from the kitchen of a truck-stop diner; when he abandoned his chicken-fried steak and went to investigate, however, the kitchen was empty save for two clues: an enormous kettle buzzing and vibrating, as though still humming from the shocks of some unknown drummer-and a lone blue shoe. From Tierra del Fuego comes another report, this time from a trekking guide who discovered a curiously symmetrical set of markings on a fallen tree. They were clearly made by beavers, but later laboratory analysis showed them to be the precise rendering of a 16th-note hi-hat/snare/handclap pattern. Nearby mudflats preserved a lone set of footprints: one bare, the other apparently shod in some kind of athletic footwear. Finally, a participant on a Survivor-style reality show recounts a similar story. (Titled Bora Bora Botox, the program forced cast members to devise homeopathic cosmetic enhancements from jungle ingredients; it was canceled after one woman lost her nose to flesh-eating spiders.) Court documents attest that while rappelling down a mossy canyon, another participant, identified only as Jane Doe, heard what sounded like jazz rhythms being pounded out on coconut halves, followed by ecstatic moans and a regular slapping sound. As she pierced the forest canopy, a flash of blue caught her eye, revealing what appeared to be two exceptionally hirsute hominids, one spanking the other. Which brings us to The Man With One Blue Shoe. Not long ago, a mysterious package turned up in Circus Company's Paris offices. It contained only a CDR scrawled with two titles: "Bounce the Blue" and "One Blue Shoe." The former was a shuddering, jerking, rollicking beast of a track, driven forward by an insistent walking bassline and overlaid with strange, proto-musical grunting. (A third track, "Bounce the Blues Dub," presented the same track minus vocals-available as digital only) "One Blue Shoe" played with similar ideas, but to less emphatic ends: full of open-ended tritone harmonies and a relaxed, sensual groove, it suggested a delirious state of mind and an almost desperate pursuit of physical pleasure. Could it possibly be the work of anyone else? Across the crumpled envelope was stamped the telltale mark of a basketball shoe, exactly the size (14) and brand (Cradidas, a Korean knockoff) favored by Mr. John Shenanigans. Putting two and two together, Circus Company decided that the public interest required the release of the tracks. We think you'll agree.

Len Faki, - Death By House
Len Faki's "Death By House" was undoubtedly the ultimate hit on the next to last Cocoon Compilation H, uniting the Techno and House floors worldwide in a sense of hedonism like no other track before. After more than one year, OstGut-/Berghain resident Len Faki is now leaving the echo of this conjuration of powerful Jack-House to very competent hands: Drumcode mastermind Adam Beyer, who already has reworked Faki's biggest hit so far "Rainbow Delta", and his Swedish companion Jesper Dahlbäck provide peak time entertainment deluxe. A bass kick that makes the earth shake, percussive Discotech is massaging your diaphragm before the programmatic announcement "House your body to the bass" gives the total loss of control a motto again. It's even more astonishing that the second remix of the - at least in this country - rather unknown DJ Akihiro Mochizuki aka A.Mochi does not stay behind, regarding the energy level, thanks to a pulsing bass, clockwork effects and a fulminantly growing hands-in-the-air break. No wonder that besides Len Faki for his Figure label also Dubfire is using the services of the man from Tokyo for his Sci+Tec imprint.

Tracklisting: A: The Discowboys: At Midnight (Steve Bug‘s Always Late Mix)
B1: Two Armadillos: Tunnel Of Light (Langenberg Remix)
B2: Phonique: For The Time Being feat. Erlend Øye (Ripperton Remix)
Time for round 3 in our recent celebration of Dessous Classics past, present and future... this time we have 3 hot remixes, courtesy of Steve Bug, Langenberg and Ripperton, re-working tracks from The Discowboys, Two Armadillos and Phonique respectively. The Discowboys‘ ‚At Midnight‘ won favour back in the day for its solid, chunky groove and insatiable house club vibe. Now brought up to date by label boss Steve Bug, his ‚Always Late Mix‘ strips things down to the raw essentials. Building in classic form from a sparse swinging drum pattern, the mix evolves into a smooth post-acid deep house summer jam. Perfect for focusing the vibe of the party and lifting the spirits of the crowd towards a higher place.... Recent Dessous signing Langenberg adds his touch to the Two Armadillos‘ beautiful ‚Tunnel of Light‘. Taking us further into the tunnel the remix focuses on spacious atmospheres and pushing bass energies in this big-room room trip. Spilling out into a submerged, dubbed out cavern this blossoming producer is clearly on the right path. Finally, allowed a full side to breathe, Ripperton‘s mix of Phonique feat. Erlend Øye, ‚For The Time Being‘ brings out the extended, psychedelic side of this well-loved song. Making full use of Erlend‘s haunting vocal, Ripperton‘s cyclic beats wrap around our bodies and swathe us in deep-dub-house magic in this very unique and strikingly contemporary production.

Not content with just completing their debut album for Full Pupp, Jarle Bråthen from Ytre Rymden Dansskola unleashes his virgin vinyl 12" on us.
On the A side we've got "Søder". Though rough and tough on the outside, it's just like a Ferrero Rocher... A hard shell but a creamy soft inside.... mmmm.... I love chocolate...
On side B there's "Takras" which we previously displayed on last years "Greatest Tits Vol.1"compilation. This time however, you'll get it with a proper mixdown from yours truly Skål!!!

Al Usher, - Lullaby For Robert
So the story goes:
A few years ago I played a cool underground party in Stockholm with my good friend and crazy record collector Mark Seven. Early on that night Mark played me this beautiful and melancholic piece of music.
Mark happily handed me his spare copy and my record collection for a second felt a little more complete... Originally released as a b-side track to Al's Slipshod EP on Out of the loop the track continued to
mesmerize whenever I played it and the fact that so many people loved it and equally as many didn't know the record I though a re-release could be a great idea. It's inclusion on Gerd Janson's recent Sonar Kollektiv compilation and the fact that it's been played by legendary DJ Harvey ( "O Bearded one" as he's known to by the initiated)has obviously helped to spread it's fame to. The previously issued part 1 with the original and Bogdan Irkük remixes has gone down a storm with all the cool movers and shakers... oh yeah baby. Now it's time for the last chapter with equally mindboggling Gatto Fritto remix, Mark Seven's "version" and my own just plain silly rework.
Toodle oooo, Thomas(Oslo, 7th of august 2009)

Click Box have fast become a permanent fixture in the Minus firmament, personifying the subtle shifts that are taking place within the scene as the label expands its repertoire and broadens its horizons to incorporate emerging artists from all over the globe. Already on to their second Minus release of 2009, São Paulo DJs/producers Marco AS and Pedro Turra immediately pick up where they left off with the roving bass and pumping rhythm section of Wake Up Call doing exactly what it says on the tin. As with the first EP, the oscillating synth patterns continue to dominate proceedings, painting neon shapes in the darkness before another delicious robotic sequence shifts the atmosphere by introducing a moroder-esque vibe complete with twisted disco bleeps. It’s just another example of how Click Box have honed their sound since their debut I&T release through a finely crafted mixture of proto-house, electro and techno, to create a distinctive hybrid that’s fast becoming their own. There is something reassuringly familiar about the fat basslines and classic old school sequences they use but it’s their innovative approach to sound design and the adrenalin rush of their arrangements that allows them to connect the past and the future with such authenticity. Moving on, Nebula extends the party vibe with a funk-infused hihat pattern taking hold while a moody, throbbing bass pulse stalks the undergrowth. More modulated madness ensues as the wasp like synth melody twists and morphs to distraction, blooming and fading as the beats motor forward. Acidic overtones continue to dominate during the intro to Room before the boys let fly with another lethal snare line and a flurry of sliding bleeps. The tight interplay between the drum parts and bass patterns is a constant theme throughout these tracks but it’s the musical sensib ility of the outrageous sounds and shapes they use that really captures the imagination as you drift further into their cleverly mapped-out arrangements. The elasticated riffs and rubber bass pandemonium of Blue Box will have the back of your eyeballs sweating before you know it. Stretching out across another solid bank of drum programming, the unruly sounds cartwheel across the audio field, slipping their leash and running amok. The digital only cut S Bahn is a more spacious groove but just as lethal. It’s an underground ride through dark tunnels of growling analogue noise and urgent arpeggiated scales those rounds off this collection perfectly without ever skipping a beat, dropping a catch or easing up on the accelerator. With these two EPs Click Box have laid down a marker for 2009, expect to be blown away by their live shows later this year.

Steve Bug, - Swallowed Too Much Bass
‚Swallowed Too Much Bass‘ is the fi rst single to be lifted from Steve Bug‘s amazing fourth artist album, ‚Collaboratory‘ (released on Poker Flat this season.) Alongside the original, which features the thickly spoken vocals of Paris The Black Fu, of Detroit Grand Pubahs fame, the package contains super-hot remixes from Rotterdam‘s Joris Voorn and Detroit‘s Kris Wadsworth. Long time techno superman Joris Voorn lays down a grooving, tracky reduced house remix of ‚Swallowed Too Much Bass‘, much in the style of recent housier outings on his co-run Rejected label, or the Rejected duo‘s recent bomb for Figure records. Voorn throws a sexy, slippery bassline-led track out through the speakers, proving that his big room techno power-play can also work on a lighter, more playful tip. On the B side the original track is included in all its analogue acidic glory. Steve‘s classic production touch and Paris The Black Fu‘s unmissable vocal unite in a rapturous unison of attitude, quality and love for the game... Finally Detroit‘s new upstart Kris Wadsworth delivers a funked out re-shuffl e that‘ll have you grooving no end! Deeper than deep jazz chords, spacey string slices and chunky, rolling beats combine in a late night club killer that proves Wadsworth‘s unique, challenging sound is getting the praise it deserves! Hot.

Motorcitysoul are Frankfurt veterans and deep house pioneers Matthias Vogt and Christian Rindermann (aka C-Rock). ‘Vivid’ follows various successful releases (‘Kazan’ and Space Katzle’) on Aus Music, and their first debut studio album ‘Technique’ on Simple. Hailing from Germany's own 'Motor City', the pair have developed a reputation for creating soulful yet truely futuristic deep house that has a signature sound all of its own. ‘Vivid’ is trademark motorcitysoul – resonant evolving chord sequences, beautifully arranged organic percussion and ‘wild pitch’ fx and loops combine to devastating effect. Fellow Frankfurter Roman Flugel gives the Manheim house sound a damn good run for it’s money with a tight, loopy groove that locks you from the off. All kinds of detail and sound flourishes pop in once, never to be heard again, keeping the listener on their toes....The package is completed with a percussion heavy dub that threatens to steal the show. Roman Flugel needs little introduction. One half of Alter Ego and one of the collective responsible for legendary labe’ls Playhouse and Klang and not forgetting one of the finest clubs in the world...Robert Jonson.

Dr Boondigga & The Big BW went straight to #1 of the New Zealand Music Album charts, having shipped Gold and hitting Platinum in the first four days. Two years in the making, the album is the successor to the band’s 2005 debut album Based On A True Story, which also went straight to #1 in New Zealand, reached 8 x platinum and won a raft of awards including Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Album of The Year in the UK. “We’ve absorbed a few influences along the way: Berlin Bashment, Portuguese Top Forty, Tooting Bhangra Beat and Montmartre TV Shop Techno Hi-Life”, reports trumpet player Tony Chang on the musical stopovers of the bands creative process.
