(Put together, the two EPs add up to 79 minutes music-that's more than most albums!)"Somewhere We've Got" is a wide-eyed frolic set to a loping beat and snares that crumple like paper bags. Rhodes and organ walk through the bluesy changes, and the high end moves like a flock of butterflies across numerous, flashing leads. Almost eight minutes long it's the perfect breather, perfect for twisting up the vibe of any set.Despite its unassuming title, "House Tool's House" is an anthem by any other name, with rich chords straddling fifths on the scale, and disembodied female vocals taking the lead; modal glockenspiel melodies and intricately swung Latin percussion lend sparkle and motion. The whoe thing is one long, sustained climax, a plateau of endless grace. At nearly 17 minutes long, "Behinf My Soul" is the longest track here, and it's also the darkest. Darkly EQ'd hand percussion sets the scene with claustrophobic, rain-forest vibes; thundering tympani and wave upon wave of distant bells only reinforce the feeling that the sky is splitting wide open. The first half sucks you in; the second wraps you up in haunted organ solo. By the end, as though flushed of toxins, you feel reborn.Finally, "Melodrama" marks a rare return to Luciano's very earliest sound, with the kind of skittering micro-rhythms and jewel-toned melodies familiar from his Live at Weetamix CD. The title doesn't lie, as Luciano shows himself unafraid to go after big emotion with sweeping string pads and mutating chords. It's one of those special tracks, the kind you keep handy for just the right moment. You don't know when that will be, but you know it's coming. Soon.

Guillaume Coutu Dumont has been unstoppable over the past three years. Since releasing his debut album, Face À L'Est, on Montreal's Musique Risquée label in 2007, the Montreal-born Berliner has released a steady stream of EPs, remixes and compilation tracks for Circus Company, Musique Risquée, Oslo, Cocoon and many more. He's also kept up a nonstop touring schedule, wowing crowds the world over with a dynamic live show that never sounds the same twice. Throughout, he's developed one of the most distinctive styles in contemporary house music-a deep, powerful and original fusion of Afro-Latin percussion, instrumental melodies, soulful vocals, and intricate rhythm programming. Now, with his new album Breaking the Fourth Wall, he takes another big step forward. This 2x12'' verrsion features extended mixes of the album tunes for those who'll want to slip this hot number into party time. From dark-and-stormy basement jams to Ethiopian-tinged fantasias, from Afrobeat to ambient house, Breaking the Fourth Wall finds Guillaume venturing far beyond the limits of 4/4 boompty-boompty. He set himself the added challenge of making the album sound as much like the work of a live band as possible. Dave Aju recorded the vocals for "On the Lips" in his San Francisco studio. Switzerland/Zaire's Dynamike, whom Guillaume met at the Montreux Jazz Festival, brings an Afro-beat feel to "Radio Novela." Guillaume's longtime collaborators Marc-André Charbonneau, Sébastien- Arcand Tourigny and Nicolas Boucher all feature on various tracks, playing guitar, saxophone and Rhodes. But it all holds together as a remarkably coherent listening experience, while remaining far more varied than your average 12" single. While the DJs will have plenty to keep them busy, between driving cuts like "Helicoptère" and "Walking the Pattern," the album takes many turns, digging into a kind of dub-cumbia on "Radio Novela". It's that acoustic element that gives Breaking the Fourth Wall such uncommon depth. Muted synthesizers and unobtrusive drum machines are the glue and staples holding together a panoramic collage of saxophones, congas, piano, Rhodes, Hammond organ, choral passages, preachers' vocals, brushed drumming and more. ("Hélicoptère" is the lone exception, with its grinding techno arpeggios.) It's all polished off with killer hooks and vocals you might call subliminal, they burrow so deep into your head. The title Breaking the Fourth Wall refers to dissolving the imaginary boundary between actors and audience. That's a concept Guillaume knows well: his live sets are all about demolishing the division between stage and dance floor, absorbing up everyone present into an all-encompassing funk organism. Now he takes the concept even further, blurring the lines between sampling and composition, between machines and acoustic instruments, between the nightclub and the living room. Put it on and witness a new musical world coming sharply into focus-no 3D glasses required. We're excited to announce that renowned composer and producer Martin Buttrich will release "Crash Test" on Desolat on 27.3.2010.
Whether listened to while driving on the highway or on a massive speaker stack at next summer's festivals, one thing is for sure: Crash Test will splinter preconceptions.
The album is a compilation of tracks, picked from among many works he has created over the last 15 months at his Hannover studio and various spaces and places worldwide. Each song pays testament to this Grammy-nominated artist's fluid approach to music composition - an ability to converse with machines, and dive deep into the circuitry of a song. Buttrich has spent recent years developing a sound that appeals to both sides of the brain: having dropped records on labels such as Planet E, Four:Twenty, Cocoon, Poker Flat and Desolat that encompass the entire spectrum between dreaminess, intuition, warmth, melancholy, and highly calibrated dancefloor precision. Meanwhile his catalogue stretches round some of the most influential dance tracks heard around the globe since 1992.
Crash Test is a long player, a four to the floor album that can be listened to from start to finish; an organic sequence of shifting moods to sublimate existing minimal house or techno paradigms. The LP is shaded with bass weight: a reflective, meandering interpretation of the grooves that have always inspired Buttrich: echoes of hip hop, jazz, reggae and soul. Emotive tangents hover, punctuated with found sounds and textures recorded in public spaces.
This album is intended as an expression of a certain time and space: a collection of tracks that could only have been woven together at this turbulent point in history. The album contains more acoustic and analog instruments than Martin Buttrich usually uses, and attempts to bridge a gap between imagined and audible worlds. A bridge from the cosy confines of a studio to the outer spaces, in which each tune is re-contextualised.

RE-RELEASE! How could you better counteract the current status quo that has arrived in clubmusic than with calling your label Safer and daring everything? While 90% of the labels and artists try to sound like authentic minimal or house, with Safer Richard Davis takes the logical step into the artists own stable. His own platform to publish what always has characterized Richard Davis, somehow house, somehow pop, somehow indefineable despite a production which oozes references. The name Safer which referres to his album "safety" on Punkt Music is cleverly chosen. Safer in the sense of holding the reins in your own hands this time and being independent from the release-planning-craze of former independent labels in an age of "spat-out-digital- bonus-tracks" and being able to decide yourself about the format and choice of tracks. After two albums and cooperations with Trentemöller, Swayzak and Bomb the Bass and producing timeless tracks like "Bring Me Closer" you can safely assume that this man has arrived. Arrived somewhere between 80s inspiration, 90s house culture and a way of production that is committed to detail, manages without playing to the gallery, puts little rhythmic hooks in the right places and weaves samples into the tracks without quoting at will.British understatement. With Safer 001 Davis links to Details. Just 5 years later. House music which sounds like the fulfilled promise from 1992. Music that has grown up and hasn´t suffered any loss of it´s beauty. Vocals which make you want to shout pop and carry a groove in the heart that has never been more challenging.
It will be a good spring in Berlin when Richard Davis releases his first record for 3 years in april.
