Chris Liebing and the CLR team are very exited about the upcoming release of CLR 049. The ENGINE EP by BLACK ASTEROID is the brand-new project of an artist who has been an unconventional techno innovator and a big inspiration for many years. Black Asteroid is the brainchild of Bryan Black, who started his career as a sound designer for Prince. While working with Prince at Paisley Park Studios, Bryan learned and honed sound and production skills, which inspired him to start his own band. He moved to London England and co-founded a band called MOTOR. Their first demo was quickly signed to Novamute, and after 2 singles, MOTOR were catapulted to the top of the techno world, sharing stages with Daft Punk and Kraftwerk at major festivals, and later embarking on a World tour supporting Depeche Mode in 2009. In April 2011, Bryan decided to start a new project by the name of BLACK ASTEROID, to showcase an exciting new sound and to re-capture the techno world once more. That was the moment when Chris Liebing came into the picture, and he recalls it as follows: "Of course I have always been a fan of Novamute, and one day I had this "Motor" track called Sweatbox in my hands and loved it so much, that I called Novamute and asked if I could remix it. The result was the release of a single sided vinyl that came out in the end of 2005 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFBxk3KYH80). What I really liked about the Original was the "out of the ordinary" techno approach that Motor had...., and still has. For my remix, I actually only added a bassdrum... 6 years later I find this demo mail by Motor mastermind Bryan Black in my inbox, with a 4 track project called BLACK ASTEROID. He kept following what was happening on CLR and thought it was a good idea to send me the new tracks he has done. What a great idea! Very soon the next day, our whole office in Berlin was dancing and the neighbours were complaining. I am excited and happy that Bryan has chosen CLR in order to get his tracks out and that we can continue the story, which started back in 2005. Loads of musical adventures lie ahead of us and I am happy to have Bryan Black on board!"
This debut EP of BLACK ASTEROID was written in only 1 week. Then it was mixed in the following week and signed to CLR a week later. An early demo version of "Engine 1" even made it to one of the highest ranks in Dave Clarke´s monthly top ten, long before any promos were sent out. It almost seems as if this music was in a hurry to be out there, and if you listen to it, it won´t surprise you at all. The ENGINE EP consists of nothing but pure POWER.

We are proud to present our 10th release and the first album on FormResonance in June 2011!
A stunning surprise is awaiting: label director Florian Schirmacher developed something completely out of the box together with the living Techno legend Mijk van Dijk: THE CHAENGE After the preliminary release of the single "Love Devotion" on David Carrettas French label Space Factory now follows the debut album by THE CHAENGE! Funk is back? – it's never been gone. This is what Florian Schirmacher and Mijk van Dijk are presenting.
Mijk "The Legendary" van Dijk has set the bar in the Techno scene since the early 90's. He was one of the first European artist in Japan and still follows and promotes his philosophy of thinking and acting without borders. Probably only a few people know that he was a bass player in a Funk band before he started his career in Techno. The funk strikes back! Florian "The Voice" Schirmacher is producer and singer of Wareika, Federleicht, Hatikvah, Here Today , and of course THE CHAENGE. His approach to build up musical projects together with other artists sets yardsticks when it comes to the question how to define a band. He is rightly regarded as an exceptional figure in the current club culture, with an instinct that always hits the mark precisely. Catherina Behr is next to
the guys live on stage and acts as drummer.
Past - Present - Future; THE CHAENGE triggers a variety of connotations and shows quite confident future visions on the new record. They present a synthesis of camp, irony, elegance, seriousness and a wink of a surprising turn in their songs.THE CHAENGE should be seen as a neatly tailored colorful kaleidoscope. The carefully chosen cover version of André Cymone's "Dance Electric" (written by none other than Prince) proves their courage to raise their music to a new and higher level. The essence and spirit of funk is preserved and transformed into the current club culture. Their compositions draw a rich picture full of musicality and passion. They speak with one voice and create a synthesis that forms a character: THE CHAENGE is our rebellion.

DJ T., Cari Golden, - City Life
DJ T.'s Pleasure Principle album immerses itself, wholly and rapturously, into electronic music's legacy of authentic soul, helping to usher in a renaissance of groove-heavy house. Following the success of the album's singles Burning and Sense, DJ T. turns to the sultry vocal track "City Life" to launch into summer anthem mode. DJ T.'s unconcealed dancefloor curiosity brings his body music instincts to the fore; with the classic sounding house number "City Life", shadowy quirks disarm and charm, while Cari Golden's uniquely programmed vocals add broad brushstrokes of texture and atmosphere. "City Life" recalls the 1980s warehouse era, and finds Cari crooning, siren-like "the city's in my veins...", mixing a rough-round-the edges vocal treatment with hands-in-the-air chord stabs.
The "DJ T.'s ReWork" spreads the arrangement wider, and DJ T. draws even more groove from the original with his dub version. A deep bass swing drives the track, and increases its intensifying atmosphere. Cari's silken tones are dropped in snippets over the build ups, break downs and that irresistible melody, and a new urgent chord progression takes it to its peak.
For the remix package, two of house music's young guns have put their fresh spin on "City Life". Maceo Plex offers a warm house rework that is built on a sampled guitar pulse and ghostly, floaty strings. The Spanish talent hones in on a deep funk bass line, a squiggly electro melody and heavily delayed handclaps. The distinctive melody of the original drifts back through keys and filtered steel drum sounds, adding a carnivalesque feel. Maya Jane Coles is renowned for her sleek and airy production work, and she offers nothing less than that with her remix. A gentle dub treatment and an expertly pitched down tempo strike a deep hypnotic groove, while Cari's calming voice is bathed in reverb.

Since his first two personal album releases on Kilk Records, Serafim Tsotsonis has been developing into a talented musician.
With the release of his brand new album. Beautiful People', the Greek artist takes a step further, presenting even more facets of his diverse talent with a work of exceptional polyphonic delights. In the album's opening track .Red, Green, Blue', a unique postmodern lullaby, the serene atmosphere of a child's room, is pierced with the sounds of an urban environment.
An imposing performance by Zach soars together with a chorus comprised by Mikael Delta, Kid Moxie, Kiki, Antoneta Kotsi, Fay Depasta and Serafim himself. At the same time, Dimitri Vassilakis, one of the foremost recognized Greek wind musicians, adds further brushstrokes of sensitivity with his saxophone.
With relaxed beats, unequivocal references to 80s melancholic electronica and the vocals of Kiki and Kid Moxie, .My own Sea' invites the listener to dive into the waters of his own dream world. In a way, it constitutes a continuation of Serafim's past creations, as heard in his earlier works, a fact that is sure to satisfy the most loyal of the artist's fans. The dubstep references in the intro of .So Good', are intertwined with the modern electronic sound of Berlin and the saxophone of Dimitri Vassilakis comes in at the end, marking a shift that leads to an exploration of new sound structures, in which European metronomy meets neo-jazz.
The most radio-friendly track of the album comes with .Far Away', a mutated Balearic rhythm interpreted unpredictably by the rock-tinged voice of Norwegian Sverre Olav Rødseth. .Catch the Cloud' is where the album really takes off. A deep tech anthem for clubbers around the world, one can imagine it featured on the soundtracks of films such as .Berlin Calling', had it been released sooner…

After the incredible success of Agaric’s “Who Made Up The Rules” , we come to you with this amazing remix EP. On the A side Josh Wink is onboard to remix the title track “Who Made Up The Rules”. This is vintage Wink, pumping and building as only Josh can. On the B side we enlist the skills of Axel Boman who takes the hypnotic “Get Off My Mind” and makes it a funky house jam. Two amazing remixes of two incredible tracks that should be heard throughout the summer season!

London based James What is a well known musician treading the more left-field and creative end of the Tech House spectrum. His numerous EPs alongside Dan Berkson have become Poker Flat classics in recent years and so we're happy to welcome him in his first solo effort for the label.
Lead cut ‚It Feels Wrong' fuses classic analog bass with lively synth work and satisfyingly complex question-answer passages that whisk us away into a sweaty, late night vibe immediately.
Berlin based lord of the witching hour Lee Curtiss adds his touch on the remix side with a killer acidic treatment of ‚It Feels Wrong'. Tense, soulful and teasing, this warm and super playable version will no doubt find its way to freaky dancefloors everywhere.
‚In The Dark' slowly builds edgy, spooky elements in a deep, dark and sexy trip. Combining smooth chords and keys, with trippy synths and sinister vocal snippets, What's bright and clear production works wonders in this slow-burner.

Suzanne Kraft, - Femme Cosmic
A boy named Suzanne. Travelling from Los Angeles to Portland and back to Los Angeles again, Suzanne Kraft's vinyl debut (check out his previous efforts on http://discothequerecords.wordpress.com/tag/suzanne-kraft/) features four tracks of frenetic sunshine ecstasy. Chill rave, pill wave, hypno disco, Balearic beats or slow-motion house made by the careless youth of the US-American west coast? Call it what you want, at the end of the day or the night it's simply joyful music made to make you happy. On Kraft's "Green Flash EP", the contemplative romance of "Green Flash" counteracts the straightness of "Morning Come", while "Turning" and especially "Femme Cosmic" are the icing on the cake. Let's face it, old people: The kids are all right! First 5000 copies housed in a killer and tremendously flamboyant sleeve. Bite into summer.

The Fried Tofu crew follow up their excellent first course with another tasty selection ! On the A-Side sweet soulful voices catch you from the first try on. But don't be hasty, or you will burn your tongue. This is hot and far from being a dessert. After the first impression of sweetness, you will feel the spicy taste coming through. We all love that slight burning on the lips, making you really feel the feel. The first cut on the B-Side digs even deeper into sweetness. Somehow everything seems to be so lovely, each time this one is played out. It’s clear that even the ruff guys can't resist the taste of honey.
Real sweet and spicy, that's how it’s got to be. Things are straightened out on the final cut, which finishes off the meal with a raw funk jam. The extended guitar groove gets back to the basics. Sometimes few essential things, combined in the right way, can be all you need. A typical mistake when preparing a meal is to add too many different spices

A 100% solid GAMM release with the Danish Heartbreak Sound crew reworking some of the biggest Hip Hop & R & B classics of our era. But Heartbreak Sound is not your ordinary re-edit crew as they do not simply cut and paste but actually add live elements. These guys can play!!! The release includes a killer soulful live version of “Brown Sugar”, the funky “El Presidente” (watch the tempo shift halfway in...sick), a thumpin’ Boogie banger on Mos Def's “MS Fat Boogie” and finally a bouncy version on “Light”. One word...massive! Two words...buy now! Three words...play it loud!

James Blake returns to the label that gave him his debut release with two brand new sub heavy club tracks. Hemlock were responsible for his Air And The Lack Thereof single back in 2009. Neither ‘Order’ or ‘Pan’ have appeared on Blake’s soulful, electronic self-titled album from this year; the new material sees the return of Blake into the more sparse, experimental and wobbling bass heavy sound of his earlier work.

Nicholas and Simoncino¹s fledgling label is back after a well received first release. Sticking to the Various Artists idea, this time they welcome HomePark, Audio Atlas and KrazyStar to the party. With Nicholas taking the reins on the A1. This is big! A1: Nicholas You Don¹t Know - Old house vibe on this. Nicholas tearing it up as usual, sick beat with heavy percussion. Great bass line and beautiful use of vocals!! A2: Homepark Bleu: Deeper house feel to this track, cool synth stabs and clever use of vocals. Heavy house beat with some nice use of panning on the effects. B1: Audio Atlas - Sweden Almost tropical house flavours on this, keeping it deep. With Chicago style vocals. Heavy beat and popping bass! Killer! B2: Krazy Star Under The Moon: Well known vocals effected enough to be almost unrecognisable, heavy use on the reverb and delay. Killer bass line really makes this track, almost techno feel to this. Heavy and dark! Brilliant!

This is Pinch’s first release on Mala’s DEEP MEDi imprint and we feel it’s his best work to date, we’ll sure you’ll agree. ‘Swish’ has been played relentlessly by Mala over the last year as well as a select lucky few able to get their hands on it such as Skream, Loefah, Youngsta and V.I.V.E.K. ‘Swish’ is classic Pinch, dark, moody and sparse, heavily influenced by Techno, with a sub- bass and kick to destroy any bass bin, pure soundsystem music. ‘Tunnel Home’ on the flip sees Pinch in experimental mode switching up the tempo, 155. This still has the Pinch trademark darkness and efx’s but oozes a stealthily undercurrent and coldness with its complex drum programming and industrial approach, reminiscent of early Photek output.

Franco Cangelli’s Mowar label returns with a four-tracker destined for underground clubs all over the world. ‘Phantomz’ is the work of Belgian producer Ozka aka David Nizet, who has released on labels as diverse as Rotation and Aesthetik, as well as putting out the ’Hidden Roots’ EP last year on Mowar. The title track sets the tone for the rest of the release: a dark, dense serving of techno propelled by dense beats, relentless filters and a foreboding bassline, it effortlessly captures the sound of 6am in a darkened warehouse. ‘Draw Any Type’ is of a similar disposition, although somewhat more atmospheric thanks to mysterious synths, but the same dense, slamming beats drive it towards the dance floor, while Aubrey’s take on ‘Phantomz’ ramps up the intensity levels. Underscored by a slamming rhythm and concrete beats, the UK producer copper-fastens a grungy riff to snappy, jittery percussion and menacing bass pulses. For a few brief moments, the track breaks down midway through, but all too soon it returns to its punishing direction. Finally, Ozka delivers some light relief in the form of ‘Ekwalize’. The track has a deeper, dubbier feeling and the textured chords augment its swinging sensibility, but even here remnants of the release’s overall intensity remain, with a cacophony of found sounds lending it a menacing undercurrent.
Don’t miss out on this superb phantom techno release!

Terence Fixmer on a roll with an absolutely massive, stripped-down techno bomb. Remixed by the ever-amazing Marc Houle. The b-side goes deep and dark, closer to his stuff on Prologue. Recommended!!!

"The Dark Thoughts of Fate's Manufacturer" is the new output by Giorgio Gigli and Obtane. It tells the story of a secret entity who plans human destiny. Who is he? Nobody knows. But we do know that we can control a part of our fate through decisions. So here is the choice: 3 tracks, 3 different fates. The A side is a powerful techno machine with Zooloft's trademark, a compound of solid and precise rhythms driven by a dangerous deep bass. It digs a mindblowing path with contribution from drones and effects. B1 is from the man who runs Do Not Resist The Beat and The End Of All Existence, Milton Bradley, who delivers a dark techno track in his own pure style. Sinister echoes move forward and backward into a tunnel, trying to escape from claustrophobic beats and surreal atmosphere. The EP is closed by a Zooloft remix of Milton Bradley's track, changing the tunnel into a prison: you can easily hear sirens and human screams. The path to freedom is still far away…
