Athens of the North is proud to present Milton Wright's stunning alternate version of the now Classic Miami soul LP 'Friends & Buddies'. An altogether more stripped down, folky soul affair than its highly respected, much sampled brother is now available on Vinyl, CD and Digital for the very first time. Shelved at the last minute then re-recorded and overdubbed, only a few promo copies of this early version escaped from the studio and are deep in the collections of the very few previously in the know. The master tapes burnt in a fire at T.K Disco in Miami in the early 80s so even the label has not heard this in 30 Years. Many reissues of the second version of Friends & Buddies LP have come and gone, but Milton's original vision has remained hidden until now. As searingly honest and stunningly soulful as any seminal Marvin Gaye or Terry Callier LP, it stands tall amongst its exceptional peers as one of the true pillars of quality 70s soul.

Complete Spiral EP features recordings of antiqued deep house from the unlikely combo of DJ Sprinkles (a.k.a. Terre Thaemlitz) and Mark Fell (SND). Its a homage to the sounds of the late 80s and early 90s house music that had such a heavy impact on the both of them. The A-side features two mixes of Say It Slowly, an old-school cut peppered with organ riffs and a subsonic Sprinkles bassline that likes to play hide-and-seek. The title Say It Slowly comes from the N.U.M Mixs vocal sample of Arthur Scargill, former leader of Britains National Union of Mineworkers, and the closest thing to MLK to come out of the Yorkshire region near Fells home. Too bloody right, Arthur! We hate Captialism! We hate their system, too! I guess that makes the HeeHaw mix a playfully soulful reference to Sprinkles upbringing in the Ozarks? Mercy. Finallly, the EPs title track Complete Spiral is a blissful post-peak floater featuring Fells melodic noodling. It begs to be played from start to finish in the wee hours of the morning.

Though consistently featuring house heavyweights on their releases like Andres, DJ Nature, Fred P, Kez YM and Inkswel, City Fly like to push those left in the shadows to the forefront - continuing their quest in discovering and nurturing hidden house talent.. Step forward veteran German producer Marlow aka Mario Weise who's been on the scene for over two decades. Having recorded for house labels as varied as Moon Harbour, Room With A View, Fifty Fathoms Deep and Dennis Ferrer's Objektivity imprint (not to mention an array of remixes with Compost's Rainer Truby), Marlow has been at the fore of the many facets of house. More recently he released on Jazzanova's influential institution Sonar Kollektiv with the cosmic-infused disco and honeyed harmonies of his 'Backroom EP'. For his City Fly debut Marlow drops a jutterin' house rhythm with an old dusty male vocal filtering through the squelchin' stabs and percussive patterns, culminating in an ethereal crescendo awash with soaring synths and soulful vox serenading 'I'm Riding High'. UGLY DRUMS - WHO'S GETTIN' DOWN
Not content with featuring one German on the EP, City Fly welcome back Cologne native Ugly Drums for their tenth release. Ugly Drums has an inimitable style that has seen him appear on a host of choice house labels such as Rush Hour, Freerange, Kolour, Black Key, and Fifty Fathoms Deep plus his debut 'Saturn Memories' LP on the discernible Quintessentials imprint. More recently he featured on the aforementioned 'UglyInk' 10inch and Bartellow's 'Humming Birds' EP for City Fly turning out an acid-induced interpretation of the title track that was a highlight. So naturally it was only a matter of time before City Fly got this production wunderkind back on wax again.. As the 'Who's Getting Down' title suggests, Ugly Drums brings to the plate a proper filtered beatdown joint that's got its eye firmly on the dancefloor complete with a deep dose of disco added to proceedings. Just when you're gettin' lost in the groove suddenly the track goes off-kilter with stuttering keys bound to make you jit and deeper synths coming into play. RED RACK 'EM - DARK BOXING
Berlin-based Red Rack 'em aka Danny Berman returns to the City Fly family after releasing the well-received 'Zoned EP' last year complete with a funk-fuelled and soul-soaked interpretation from DJ Nature. His genre-defying productions on choice labels such as Ramp, Philomena and Wolf Music are always in the bag of revered purveyors such as Mike Huckaby, Move D, MCDE and Kyle Hall. With the Midlands connection (where he resided before jettin' to Berlin) it was only natural City Fly got him back representing again. His contribution typically takes us on a deeper trajectory - the smoky haze of the jazzy keys and dusty vox sounding like it could be a long lost blunted KDJ joint flowin' with some Motor City soul. One for the lights down low..
SIMBAD - MY TIME
For their final contribution of the EP City Fly are proud to present London-based French DJ/production extraordinaire Simbad to bringing his varying flavour to their house palette. Initially coming to prominence over a decade ago under his 'Marathon Men' alias with kindred spirit Freddy McQuinn, tracks like 'Sweet Exorcist' on G.A.M.M. were picked up by tastemakers such as Laurent Garnier, Moodymann, King Britt, Norman Jay and Gilles Peterson - who made their 'In Paradise' track a permanent fixture on his Radio 1 show 'Worldwide'. Simbad's chameleon-like ability to fuse together a meltin' pot of genres including jazz, funk, soul, disco, house and hip-hop has seen him appear on a variety of choice label's under a myriad of guises including Twitch, Heal, Les Barons, Mowgly, TettoryBad (with Grooveman Spot & Masaya Kobayashi of Jazzy Sport fame) plus collaborating with Karizma under their Izmabad. On to the track and 'My Time' is a typically soul-infused groove reminiscent of his Raw Fusion classics - the frenzied percussion, driving bass and electronic flourishes all intertwining effortlessly with Eric Rico's yearning larynx. After staying busy in early 2015 with new music, new internet films and new Shadow Wolf Cyberzines, Legowelt is now back doing what he does best, namely making otherworldly techno. His next release, Vaporware Tracks Vol. 1, comes on Creme Organization and features four more lush cuts. First up, ‘Norwegian Crack Dealer’ is as edgy and paranoid as you would expect of a track with such a title. Thumping drums and restless synths, splurges of colour and bashed out keys all make for an intense, colourful and engaging track that sounds like little else. ’Southwest British Airlines’ is then all trippy and mysterious, with swirling synths darting about like fire flies and ravey, dusty drums charging below. On the flip, ‘Satierian Moon Breeze’ finds Legowelt working his drum machine hard, with punchy drums all wired up with frazzled rusty lines, zoned out pads and a corrugated sense of groove. Finally, ‘The Sea Is So Silent’ is a doleful an d foreboding cut with glassy textures, globular synth lines and sci-fi sonics that are all classically Legowelt sounding as well as coming over as wholly fresh. A new year brings a third S.A.M. release on his own Delaphine label from Samuel Andre Madsen and a noted change in approach from the Danish producer. Whereas the two previous S.A.M. 12"s have seen Madsen explore the more minimal and dubby strains of techno with aplomb, this third record sees him retain the sense of atmosphere but discard with the need for any rhythmic backbone. It's telling that both tracks here are quite exquisite ambient journeys, suggesting Madsen is currently in the midst of an inspirational production patch. If you need some ambience to set the tone for a mix both tracks here fit the bill perfectly, with the orchestral touches of the B-side our personal favourite.

Mark E has a vivid imagination and everybody knows it. This is his first offering for the ESP Institute. Laurentian Abyss undoubtably conjures narrative images from the depths of a man's soul, trudging through an array of rhythmic pulse, percussion and arpeggiation that resembles the inner workings of a grandfather clock, based on a disorienting 5/4 timing yet culminating in a singular stroke. On the flip side, the title track Emergency begins with the formula for which we know Mark E best, the ultimate tease winding us up for the big payoff, yet here we're forced into a cyclical trance which diverts our attention so effectively that we never actually receive what we've been waiting for, Mark's elusive drop. When a limitless producer such as Mark E, who's spread his talents widely across the face of dance music, seeks a home away from home in the ESP Institute, we consider it an honor to open our doors and present works that stray from not only his celebrated repertoire, but from reality in general.

It's winter in Detroit and Fit Siegel has given us "Carmine", a moody techno classic perfect for the lonely season. Subtle, low-key and thumping, the title track revolves around a bittersweet piano lead, elegiac 303 and Blade Runner string swells. It's a high-tech driving song in the tradition of Model 500's low-key classic "Pick Up The Flow" and FIT sounds more assured than ever. "First Found" is Mills-ian jigsaw puzzle techno imbued with breathy and addictive humanity. Stacatto, free-jazz informed piano solos lock into ping-pong synths -- eventually, a female vocal emerges over a bed of arpeggiated bass. Loose yet robotic, "First Found" is first-rate Detroit techno mysticism. The record as a whole is a worthy entry into the Motor City's storied canon from a leader of the new school.

Massive remix package alert!! Whilst randomly flicking through his Itunes library Manuel Tur hit upon a selection of remixes that have been made of his music over the years and realized that, as well as many of them having gone criminally under the radar, many are absolutely solid gold and all of them deserve to be put together on one LP to showcase these beauties. The artists involved reads like a who’s who of underground house and techno with vintage names like Pepe Bradock, Ian Pooley and Isolée rubbing shoulders with young upstarts like Ugly Drums and Damiano von Erckert. For those who are already familiar with these remixes we wanted to make sure you had some brand new and exclusive music to get your teeth into so added three brilliant remixes of tracks from Manuel’s latest LP Es Cub to the package which is exactly what you have here on this sampler release. All three names need little by way of introduction, being Poker Flat honcho Steve Bug, Feel and One Track founder John Daly and Innervisions and Pets regular Aera. All three deliver their own unique take with their trademark quality and attention to the dancefloor all present and correct. Steve Bug’s Remix of Ara Anam kicks off the release in classic Bug style with clipped beats, simple stabs and that warmth of production that makes everything he does work so nicely in the club. John Daly is up next ditching his more cosmic, spaced out deep house sound for a straight up dub techno onslaught. Not your usual Freerange fare of course but when the music is this good who cares? Play loud in a smokey warehouse or not at all! Groove Line Records Autumn series of properly licensed rare disco / funk reissues continues with two superb slices of dance floor soul from the little known Candy Bowman - “I Wanna Feel Your Love” and “Since I Found You (Love Is Better Than Ever).” Released through RCA on 12” in 1981 under the production guidance of the team behind Stephanie Mills successful 1979 album “What Cha Gonna Do With My Lovin'” (James Mtume, Reggie Lucas), both these tracks exhibit the same smooth, subtle orchestration, instrumentation and soulfulness, and have found a loving home on dance floors and in record collections on both sides of the Atlantic and further a field ever since. “I Wanna Feel Your Love” opens with jazzy interplay between the guitars and synths then settles on the tight groove at 0m18 before Bowman's stunning, harmonised vocals build up with an intense yearning while the fluid bassline and Chic-esque rhythm guitars play with the drifting synth and horn lines all the way to the fade. The single version is also included on this release. “Since I Found You (Love Is Better Than Ever)” is incredibly smooth, mid-tempo R&B heaven, favoured by many UK DJs. The ascending piano riff which opens the track can't help but give you an immediate glow even before the beat kicks in and Bowman's joyful vocal hits the first verse. The heightened verses, in contrast to the smooth choruses, make this track perfect for the dancefloor, with a great chorus breakdown at 2m46 which rises back up and glides on the chorus to the fade. The innovative production on this track surely influenced many that came after. Due to the high quality of both of these tracks the original 12”'s are always in high demand by committed collectors. Making them the very definition of 80's Rare Groove!

Stockholm's Dungeon Acid returns with one of the strangest, nastiest acid records to date. "Carnal Knowledge" is caveman techno, one chord hammered with hypnotic precision, a two-note acid line adding an air of polyrhythmic mystery. The heavily processed sounds of copulation comprise the bulk of the atmosphere, the whole thing feeling like an alien, updated version of Lil' Louis's immortal "French Kiss". The Instrumental version is a slightly swingin' variation on the same theme. Dungeon Acid principal Jean-Louis Huhta is known for editing the sweetest parts from his hardware enduro-jams. The "Bonus Beats" title for B2 is a bit of a misnomer; in fact, these are the sounds of mutant, futuristic lovemaking in all their glory, perfect for sexing up otherwise sterile dance music. Siriusmo, Jan Driver and Gene Siewing on the one piece of vinyl? Aber hallo! The third release on Berlin's Intent Recordings sees two of the funkiest Germans known to man (and woman) teaming up with their favourite St. Louis export. Siriusmo brings his anarchic pop sensibilities and unique funk synth sound to the A-side cut, On My Case, a catchy- and fun-as-hell collaboration with Siewing. "You're on my case and I can't shake you off," Siewing drawls alongside 'Mo's intoxicating jazzy keys. Together, they create a song which represents exactly what the two of them have shown they are all about through their production and DJ work over the years - dance floor bombs with a mind of their own. ‘Mo has worked with some of the best names in the biz - artists like Chromeo, Boys Noize, Captain Future and Simian Mobile Disco - and now resides on his hometown label Monkeytown. Siewing is a producer (Made To Play, Kolour Recordings, Intent Recordings), a label boss and a scratch master DJ who can jump seamlessly through his eclectic crates all night long. He was raised on the Mississippi on a diet of blues, soul and rock'n'roll - and you can hear it in his vocals here. The one and only Mr. Jan Driver delivers the flip-side. They don't call him Driver for nothing: his sound is massive, and boy, does he deliver here, dishing up a stomping remix in his unmistakable driving style. Driver's remix discography spans far and wide, working with the likes of Blaze, Laurent Garnier, Armand Van Helden and Modeselektor. His Berlin studio is built in an old army bunker. Driver took Siewing in as family when he first came to Berlin, and let him live in that studio for a few years.

Following stunning solo releases from Julienne Dessagne aka The Twins and Sascha Funke, revered techno balladeers SASCHIENNE reunite for a stunning offering called GOLDEN PRINTS, a gorgeous set of synth-driven, beat-bound soundscapes rich in atmosphere and suspense. It's a kind of unruly romanticism that perfuses the budding techno scenarios from SASCHIENNE, often starting with a deceptively simple hook - which slowly evolves into a tense drama as abrasive as it is therapeutic. GOLDEN PRINTS is no different, smudging the volatile faultlines between anthemic electronics, cyber folk and industrial drones from the get-go. The A-side's double bill kicks off with the crawling synths from CHAMBRE BLEUE, a dusty, introspective vignette whose increasingly queasy mood is balanced by Julienne's self-assured narration and an unswerving bass line. THE ERA OF THE LEOPARD continues the trek through barren lands with a strong instinct for survival, embodied by its sunburnt guitar licks, throbbing bass and resonant leads. The flipside belongs to the somewhat ominously titled DON'T PUT YOUR FINGERS IN THE SOCKET, an exquisite arrangement of contorted feedback loops, foreboding synth sequences and a relentlessly mechanical beat. Short vocal interjections seem to only further the mystique, merely containing the seemingly erratic outbursts of a cut deliberately spiralling out of control. This is music for adventures and other transgressions, undiluted and unfaltering - an exciting new release from two people who know which way to twist the knife.

Our first offering of 2015 is our second EP by Tippy Toes, the Brooklyn-based duo comprised of engineer/producer Abe Seiferth and multi-instrumentalist Morgan Wiley of Midnight Magic and Hercules & Love Affair fame. Unlike the debut 12”, which was equal parts stoned, dubby disco and a sort of heady reimagining of progressive house, Love Reminder is a ready-for-the-radio package containing two vocal house tracks and two remixes that hearken back to the classic tropes and styles of the Chicago, Detroit, and Jersey days. The singer, Vasillus, has a gentle voice that lands softly, but firmly; it's husky and round, making it a perfect complement to the instrumentals, which are buttery smooth, filtered out for days, and hooky. When we say “hooky,” we mean it —“Love Reminder” and “Heaven” are bubblegummy pop tracks of the highest caliber and will remain lodged in your head for a long while. The B-side features two remixes by LPH friend, party guest, and all-around awesome fella, Shit Robot, who recently released his second LP on DFA, the label he's been exclusively putting material out with since 2006. Both versions were mixed by Manuel Tur. We hope you fall in love all over these gorgeous pieces and you enjoy them as much as we do.

While Steve Davis may be scouring the second hand market, filling his collection with top dollar psyche obscurities, it's fair to say that Moonboots and Boardman have the rare Balearic market covered. From the sunkissed tones of North African thumb piano to the camp sleaze of European disco, Aficionado have everything in your wantlist and more; those mythical records you need but have yet to imagine. One such artefact is a collection of future primitive symphonies from the unheralded Len Leise, a visionary composer of organic soundscapes who lives hidden in the same dreamworld as his music. Rumours are rife as to where Aficionado found this cassette of rainforest swelter; some say Moon found it buried in a vault in the red sand of the outback, while others suggest Jason discovered the tape propping open a door in a backstreet off La Rambla. Either way, we're spared the exhaustive search thanks to this gorgeous 12" vinyl pressing. The five tracks drift out the speakers like the perfumed smoke of ceremonial incense, filling the senses with the sound and feeling of a distant land; field recordings from another time and place. In its original form, 'Asmat Images' pairs tribal rhythms and rich organic textures, balancing earthy tones with the gentle melody of rainfall on cracked soil, while the ambient mix echoes the tranquility of a Jan Hammer soundtrack thanks to widescreen guitar licks. 'Another Place' offers a change of pace as the rattle and thump of a lost NY house classic blur into the gentle lilt of a tropical ceremony while exotic keys flourish from the humidity of new age pads. The sweet fragrance of cherry blossom runs through the eastern tones of 'Ryoshi's Garden' as Leise invites us to drink rice wine with a drunken master. We say goodbye with the gorgeous melancholy of 'Spirit of Ssanyu', a heartbreaking blend of atmospheric guitar, the Fairlight harmonies of the Art Of Noise and celestial vocals. Expressionistic, colourful and deeply transportive, Leise delivers a Balearic masterpiece on Manchester's essential label. Officially Aficionado.

Presenting a very special remix edition of the stunning studio album from Guti – recently placed at #11 in Resident Advisor’s 2014 Live Act poll – with new versions of original tracks from Carl Craig, Reboot, Nic Fanciulli, Osunlade and Guti himself. Released in the summer of 2014, Guti’s Rompecorazones saw one of the brightest, most creative stars of the electronic underground going back to his musical acoustic roots. Incorporating elements from a vast array of disparate styles, the end result challenged listener’s preconceptions of Guti. Now, these highly personal records have been revisited and reworked by some of the electronic music scene’s finest house and techno producers, each of whom deliver sensitive reinterpretations with the dancefloor very much at the forefront of their intentions. The full roll-call of producers involved in Rompecorazones Remixed is impressive in scope: Carl Craig, Osunlade, Reboot, Nic Fanciulli, Charles Webster, Damian Schwarz, Andrea Oliva and Livio & Roby, with Guti himself also contributing a Club Mix on album highlight ‘La Salida’.
Planet-E founder and legendary Detroit producer Carl Craig leads the remixes, laying the plaintive piano line of ‘El Solitario’ over a throbbing, acid-flecked techno. Other standout remixes include Reboot’s epic restructuring of ‘We Love You’ and Osunlade’s spellbinding, deep house version of ‘Hurt’. Speaking about the original album release, Guti said: “I gave my heart to each song, so the album is statement of who I am and what´s inside my heart: it’s my way of staying true to myself, my story, my background.” It is a testament to the skill of all of the producers involved in Rompercorazones Remixed that they have managed to preserve the heart and soul of Guti’s originals, whilst imbuing enough of their own personalities into the remixes to create something equally as enthralling.

Even though it's been a while already, his last Riotvan release "No Other" in collaboration with Filburt still makes our ears ring as one of the most unchallengeable house hymns of the last years. After releasing 'Acid Flash,' a track with Drvg Cvltvre on Shipwrec earlier in the year and one that got picked up by the likes of the Guardian, Chris Moss Acid is now back with a full EP of his own. Before now, the British acid house and electronic musician has release on the taste making Mathematics and well established Don't label, as well as with the 030303 outfit, and is someone who really knows how to get the best out of his various roland drum machines. He also runs the digital label Boxfade Records but here appears on vinyl, with great artwork by Wood1 from the 030303 crew. Up first here is 'Phantacy', which could be seen as a mixture between phantasy and extacy, a dense, prickly, gallivanting techno affair with sinewy electronics, lots of acid and lively percussion all dancing about in a controlled frenzy. Next up, 'Let Me Feel It' is an urgent, up tempo bit of heady acid techno that races along on electro leaning drums as Chris tweaks and te ases his 303 lines beyond all recognition. It's slightly more heady than the opener, but is just as aligned with the dance floor. On the flip, 'The Grin' is a more soulful and uplifting cut, with smooth chords moving about the scales as a warmer, rubbery drums pound below. Keys add yet more colour and this one is a real peak time treat before 'Acid Tronic' gets all kinetic and restless once again. Here the chords are more troubled, the Roland's squeal and the acid is deep down low. It's an attention grabbing way to close down what is a perfectly formed EP that takes cues from the old school as well as looking to the future.

With the sixth record, shtum continues to introduce fresh artists with different perceptions on what Techno is about. After Jaures debuted just recently with an EP on Oliver Hafenbauer's label Die Orakel, the Uncanny Valley sub label is more than happy to welcome the two Berlin based boys on board. ''Detitled'' starts a trip to the dirty corners of your city. The track is loaded with punchy drum attacks and despite its dusty basses and synths, it doesn't lose its slightly melancholic vibe. ''Davos'' runs in the same vein with Jaures squeezing floating sounds out of their machines for a wild ride through the urban jungle. On the flip side ''Nascent'' starts gloomy and uncompromising before it builds up slowly until Jaures' rusty trademark synths are revealed. Finally, you'll get a ''Reprise'' to highlight all their sound research elements. Once again, the illustration on the B-side label is by Aram Ha ydeyan.

The latest release on Stay Underground It Pays comes from Berlin-based house and techno aficionado, Quell. The man had a very good year in 2013 with releases on labels such as Ibadan and 20:20 Vision and shows no signs of going easy in 2014. This four track record captures the essence of Stay Underground It Pays supremely with dark warehouse sounds perfect for the club. Nowhere Forever’ sets the tone for the rest of the EP going forward. The kick drum doesn’t hold back right from the word ‘”go” and just before the one minute mark, that warehouse sounding bass hits with varied percussion sizzling overhead. Stabs and ‘verbed out vocals come later, bringing it to a slightly ‘euphoric’ ending, for lack of a better term. This is definitely one you will want to hear through a big sound system. ‘A Fate’ kicks of with a bass line reminiscent of the late 80s house sound which came out of integral cities in the US, pushed by the likes of legends such as Mike Huckaby. Like ‘Nowhere Forever’, it constantly progresses over time while making sure to never push things too over the top. Quell clearly knows what he is doing, as he is able to put together tracks such as these, perfect for peak time in the club with enough to keep people satiated but still wanting to hear moreThe title track of the EP, ‘Desdemona’, begins the flip side of the record, continuing proceedings down the set path which Quell has laid out for the listeners to follow. We are treated, again, to a relentless sounding bass line that carries the track onwards suitably before introducing all sorts of elements that further blur the gap dividing house and techno. The aptly named ‘Bouncing Off the Walls’ closes out the record. This is a real party tune designed to get people moving, giving them that extra bit of energy they need to keep going. The paradoxical vocal “Just no samples here” highlights Quell’s intricate methods in keep things simple, yet still exciting. For DJs searching for a bunch of no-filler warehouse tunes, look no further. Quell delivers, and will hopefully keep delivering such gems in the future. Don’t miss this! SZE is a new London based label emanating from the secretsundaze camp. Born from the age old adage of hearing music from friends and artists that didn't fit with the latter's more refined sound, SZE will serve as a more open platform for other forms of dance music be that techno, breakbeat, bass heavy or ambient sounds. The first release is from London based artist BLM and subsequent releases come from Sheffield's Lo'Shea and Endian. Endian's track 'Finish Me' has already been championed by Joy Orbison on his Essential Mix from late 2014. SZE's first release comes in the shape of the Bush LP from London based BLM who has previously released on the likes of Underground Quality, secretsundaze and of course his own Fear Of Flying imprint. Lead track 'Peckings' is all bleepy acid noises, relentless drums and some ravey off kilter sounds.'Carpenter' is an experimental and emotional ambient trip slowly unfurling with epic synth lines and bubbling acid. 'Unfold' is a broken, steppy, hypnotic number with a repeated spoken word vocal. Last up 'Crossing The Line' takes off where his excellent White Man and The Arab project left off with a more dubby, percussive hypnotic groove interspersed with swathes of atmosphere and a hint of the middle East. Lookout for SZE's up and coming releases from Lo'shea and Endian.

Hot on the tails of the excellent EP on Cold Recordings, dropped earlier in the year, Manchester's Acre takes thing to Tectonic once again demonstrating why we should be paying plenty of attention to this exciting young producer. Acre glides across sonic landscapes of grime, techno, industrial/experimental with ease, melding a jilted sense of other-worldliness seamlessly with dancefloor sensibilities. A delicate tightrope to walk! Over the course of 'Icons EP', Acre explores and references his influences - expanding, developing and flashing light over towards the unseen. 'Ping' kicks the EP off, it's raucous hoovers tearing from the offset, soon to be joined by toxic breakbeats, bouncing of the walls; screaming it's demented jungle war cry at 125bpm. Guaranteed to get your heart racing! Follow on then to 'Blue Moon' which references grime instrumentals of years past, yielding a darker take to the more familiar Night Slugs sonic. Flip the plate and take a deep percussive journey with 'Icon' which sounds a bit like Shackleton might if he made his beats on a gameboy.. Finally 'Reload' winds down the EP at a more relaxed pace yet compromised - 'loaded with future-bass science and other mind melting sounds.

Armando Gallop, the legendary Chicago producer & DJ whose career was tragically cut short by his death in 1996 left behind a legendary reputation as one of the windy city's finest. The final wax grooves of this E.P. are taken up by another WPH classic, Maxim Lany, who teams up with his friend Audio City Soul (welcome Maks!) to bring us the slow burner ‘Jili’. All in all we think it’s another class WPH act.
