J.J. CALE Roll On (Deleted 2009 UK 12-track vinyl LP - 'Roll On' is the legendary songwriter and guitarist's first solo album in nearly five years and follows his Grammy-winning, gold-certified 2006 album with Eric Clapton 'The Road To Escondido'. The new album is full of timeless grooves and the meticulously understated production that he is known for, but it also adds new dimensions to the 'classic Cale sound'. Just drop the needle on the new record and all of a sudden there's JJ Cale jazz-scatting for the first time on disc opener 'Who Knew' and later he's loping along behind a restrained jazz piano on 'Former Me'. Cale even adds an element of humour to the lyrics of the laid-back jam 'Where The Sun Don't Shine'. The title track is a previously unreleased collaboration with Eric Clapton and further evidence of the pair's incredibly fruitful, simpatico creative partnership; sealed picture sleeve).

Selah Sue was not destined to become an artist. "I grew up in a really little town in Belgium, and none of my family was into music," reveals the twenty-one year old, with refreshing sincerity. "As a kid, I wanted to be a ballerina. I danced from the age of six to twelve".
Even without romanticising it, her story is like a fairy tale. It's the story of a young musician who ignores her fate, and pours her anxieties into her songs and her guitar. "I had all these worries and depressions that I wrote down, it was a way of structuring my thoughts".
She turns her doubts into soul, funk and reggae melodies, trying hard to be worthy of her idols, Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu and Bob Marley. She sings in local clubs on the weekend and attends high school during the week. She records in home-studios, at friends houses, and publishes drafts of her songs on Myspace, without a thought of making a career in music.
What happens next seems almost unreal. Thousands of fans respond to her on the net, attracting the attention of professionals, and the interest of Because Music, which eventually leads to a record deal for the young musician. Then Farhot (Nneka) and Patrice take on the production of her first album. Meshell Ndegeocello stays with her in the studio for two days to produce the track "Mommy". Cee-Lo Green agrees to accompany her on a duet and ends up asking her to put the track ("Please") on his own album. And, last but not least, last autumn Prince offered her a coveted support slot at his show in Antwerp, Belgium.
To put it in a nutshell, in just two years, Selah Sue has fulfilled her dreams. To keep her grounded, she has insisted on keeping the songs she wrote during her teens for her debut album. It's a way of reminding the world that she has not been unfairly spoiled by destiny and that before Prince, Cee-Lo Green, radio play and incredible press, there was just a teenage girl, with her guitar, who was chosen spontaneously by fans on the net.
For example, her first single "Raggamuffin" is one of her oldest songs and was viewed more than a million times online. "This track symbolizes me" she explains. "It shows my soulful and singing side, but also my hard side, between rap and ragga. When my manager asked me who I wanted to work with, I said Farhot straight away, as I'm a fan of Nneka. But I also wanted an intimate, dark, melodious record, with light and lively beats. Farhot is crazy about digital sounds and Patrice, who I know well, was the ideal man for the melodious part. They were my two accomplices in the studio."
Her first album is ambitious. It is a smart melting pot between electric rock, organic hip-hop and soul-funk. The twelve tracks shift from poignant ballads like "Mommy" to wilder styles like "Crazy Vibes". Like Janelle Monae, M.I.A. or Aloe Blacc, Selah Sue belongs to a new generation for whom music has no boundaries. Selah Sue will tour her new record in the Spring.

With the mighty new From Africa With Fury: Rise, Seun Anikulapo Kuti picks up the mantle as undisputed champion and true prince of the Afrobeat movement, heading up Egypt 80, the extraordinary combo first fronted by his renowned father. The album follows Kuti's critically praised debut, 2008's Many Things, which was unanimously hailed for continuing Fela's musical legacy. From Africa With Fury: Rise sees Kuti finding his own idiosyncratic voice as songwriter, singer, and band leader, its songs and sonic approach marked by provocative edge and mature self-assurance.
Produced by Brian Eno, John Reynolds, and Kuti, with additional production by Godwin Logie, and mixed by John Reynolds and Tim Oliver, the album captures Seun and Egypt 80's extraordinary power, fraught with the scorching rhythms and kinetic funk energy that has earned the band - as ever, under the leadership of alto saxophonist Lekan Animashaun - worldwide acclaim as one of today's most incendiary live acts. With Kuti's booming vocal stylings at the forefront, songs like "African Soldiers" and "Mr. Big Thief" are fueled by call-and-response hooks, breakneck tempos, and combative, topical lyricism which firmly sets the classic Egypt 80 sound in the modern era.
Kuti is equally effusive about his co-producers, reminding "Brian Eno is 'Brian Eno' for a reason. He has a great mind when it comes to music. He adds new dimensions to the sound. He showed me new ways of opening up the sound I'd never have thought of on my own. Not to downplay the work of John Reynolds, who is an incredible producer. I'm really glad I had them work on the album."
Eno, Reynolds, and Kuti sought tension and release in the Rio recordings, incorporating breathing room and sonic space into the intricate rhythms and melodies. Further tracks - performed by Eno, Reynolds, guitarist Justin Adams (Robert Plant, Tinariwen), keyboardist Julian Wilson (Grand Drive, Belinda Carlisle), and guitarist Leo Abrahams (Florence + The Machine, Brett Anderson, Bryan Ferry) - were cut to lend further musical flavors to Egypt 80's archetypal Afrobeat. While Kuti has nothing but the highest praise for his collaborators, he is equally quick to note that the songs of From Africa With Fury: Rise had been written more than a year prior to recording and had long been featured in live performance. Despite the studio craftsmanship, Seun sees the recording process as merely a means to an end, a way of capturing his music's magic for posterity.
"Music has great impact on people's feelings," Kuti says. "That's what music should be. Pop music today is all about me, me, me. Nobody is singing about we. But nothing can change if we don't look out for our brothers and sisters."

Digitaline, - Shivers
Cadenza's latest offering comes from Swiss German duo Laurent Bovey & Gregory Poncet, more commonly known as Digitaline. Firm family within Cadenza's realm of artists, Digitaline's latest .Up And Down My Spine' EP is their fourth contribution to the increasingly impressive Cadenza catalogue of experimental and meticulously produced electronic soundscapes.
Deep and chugging grooves, atmospheric spheres and industrial synth patterns are Digitaline's forté; .Up And Down My Spine' is no exception to their uncompromising rule. A-side .Africa' makes it's grand entrance with a deliriously deep bass line belting from underneath it's hazy atmosphere and pouncing crisply into cutting hi-hat's and sweeping snare's. The jerky rhythmic groove is determined from its first steps and contrasts impeccably with the sensual and stripped down vocal from Diaraby Nene by Oumou Sangaré. Trickling over the top of a fierce and bouncing violin melody, the listener is catapulted into a woven cultural journey. .Africa' is an encapsulating house track that's plethora of influences and appeal span worldwide. On the flip, the duo's .Shivers' is percussive and a clear companion for its counterpart, .Africa'. Made to sit effortlessly together, the same potion of heavy kicks, tribal essences and impeccable arrangement follow from one side to the other, coaxing our minds and bodies into Digitaline's intricate musical world. A hypnotic synth pattern, tight drums and pure groove are relentless as they meet with the repetitive vocal in a winning combination. Cadenza is honoured to present .Up And Down My Spine' from Digitaline which comprises two deep and courageous house pieces as their sixty second release.

Damian and Clement of dOP fame return to Circus Company with a new project of dubbed out late night madness featuring vocalist Brian Brewster. Far more sinister then dOP's recent output, 7 Days features 4 tracks which explore am acidic realm of dark ruminations and swamp dredged rhythms. “Introduction” Aquarius starts things off with a Basic Channel-esque wash of chords, noise and spoken word sure to appeal to fans of Berlin's longstanding dub techno tradition. “So Low” comes off like a chopped and screwed take on Italo heard only through the mixer's effect sends, where modulating analog sequences and a thundering motorik back beat desperately swim to the surface of a blackened ocean gasping for air. “Before U Go” lightens the proceedings ever so slightly, upping the tempo and allowing the undulating synths lines to sparkle in the periphery, while the incessant vocal encourages all self-respecting punters to stay on the floor until the last track has passed ! its final groove. Finally “Universe” comes off like a lost out take from Kool Keith's Dr Octagon project with it's classic jacking electro beat and sultry effected vocals.

Poker Flat welcomes new artist Show-B to the ranks! Mathias Schober is the talent behind this new and exciting production project - having already released on the respected Compost Black Label - and now announces a whole new batch of funk laden, truly deep electronic jams.
'Far Down' is a swirling and all-encompassing tech-house journey. Characterized by pitching synths and focused percussion, the building track really ignites as its slow burning themes come to the fore and a remarkable moment is created.
The technical and dubbed-out 'Time Comes' is a superb example of a modern electronic hybrid. Crossing heavy dub stabs and delay-washed fx with thick, room filling synths and exceptional detailing, this inventive and textural track is pure home-grown and highly recommended! Again a very personal feeling snapshot of someone´s life, transformed into sound and groove. Still With Us deals with the listeners inside emotions, since it is original meant about love and loss. Snapmode can do such weird things to you just like the title promises, while the Synthonic Matter track gets you in a one-man listening situation full of crazy happenings and creative power. But each being for it´s own and so you surely will find something personal for yourself on this record. A release which is hard to preview in short listening files, because of it´s extended playing time and variations in style. You´ll have to invite this vinyl to take a spin on your turntable. Homespun Remedies has not the intention to follow some kind of hype, trend or secret links. It´s just a honest reflection of living moments captured in music and sound waves to make your time vibrating, pleasant and emotional. Use your ears and enjoy!

We are proud to present Emerson Todd's second release on Upon You. The likable New Zealander who moved to Berlin via Australia seems to spend his nights dreaming of the homelands. The cover and title of release number 046 are both inspired by the original natives of New Zealand. Emerson's specially crafted sound is somewhere in-between jungle and metropolis , wild with details yet still beautifully melodic. The A1 track, "You Got To" proves that a piano can kick you and a lovely little digital-topping can then combine everything into sweet dub-ness. As to be expected, the B-side is also alive with the artists agility and perfectly timed and placed thing and what-nots to turn any dance floor into an intense experience.

“I just woke and it’s pretty cold outside. I haven't opened the window yet, but I somehow know it and I'm listening to these six tracks again and try to make an approximation of why and how I have done this EP. They are pretty different from each other but tell the same story or at least are part of the same one as a matter of fact.
Maybe they were done as an excuse for my overdue album which is scheduled again for this year or maybe just because I was going through some odd times and needed to immerse myself in doing something. In this case music. More the latter I guess. Ok so, the opening track is in a way the end of an era and the last one the opening of a fresher one. And the rest fills in the gaps in between those two moments I guess. I hate conceptual things anyways. I never know or want to know why I do certain things. Concepts define something before it already begins its existence and trying to explain why is pretty useless. So here it is. The recording of a certain period of time in my tiny existence. With collaborations with Jaw (dOP), my brother Atilla, who is also responsible for the artwork, and Jonny Cruz. By the time it's out it'll be a distant memory for me but hope it lasts a bit longer for anyone that listens to it.”
Tracklisting:
A1) Dogs & Bones feat. Jaw
A2) Seduction feat. Atilla Fidan
B) Torega
C) Esprit Perdu feat. Jonny Cruz
D1) Softly
D2) Strip

John Daly's Meltdown gets the remix treatment! 2 awesome remixes from 2 awesome producers. On the A side QRN aka Quarion turns out a pure deep house MPC jam, while on the AA Echologist aka Brendon Moeller takes things down the dub techno road with a right club banger. Both of these remixes were constructed from sampling the B side tools of the original, direct from vinyl...no parts here, just straight up raw shit, re-edit style. Recommended!

ACT RE ACT: “Daaaaark” is the typical expression used to define ACT RE ACT. Uplfting synths, spastic latin percussion, and a pummeling 808 bring some light for the harder moments. Ms. MINNIE: Kitty “Ms.” Minnie, age 39, was caught Saturday evening sneaking a 909 into The Club and having her way with the hi-hats. She ripped it up in honor of Larry Heard before being forcefully removed by security. The whereabouts of said 909 are unknown. THE ORIGIN: A minimal bit of italo kit shoved through the hatch of a NASA shuttle (it was recorded in Houston, TX after-all) and sent around several moons of several planets. What was discovered is only now being made available for public consumption.

Disconnected Sounds launches with a one off pressing of 300 hand stamped and individually numbered white labels. DSCNTD 001 is a four track EP featuring a varied and stunning array of cuts from newcomers, Deft, Hugh Pascall, Chocky & Adam Curtain. The record begins with Croydon boy Deft’s luscious down tempo joint ‘Paradise’. Classically trained jazz musician Hugh Pascall’s follows on with ‘Joy Padding’ which is a slice of breathtaking syncopated electronica. The B side takes us in a housey direction, kicking off with Chocky’s ‘Scat’, a deep, groove laden, head nodder. While ‘Calcut’, a percussive, twisted 4/4 sub-bass work out by Nottingham’s Adam Curtain finishes the whole thing off.

Fried Tofu exists to bring some soulful sounds back into the mix. They have a militant approach to their output, selecting only the finest source material, and sympathetically reducing the ingredients to their raw, dancefloor friendly essence Celebrating the often superior production of the 70's and 80's and avoiding the loudenss wars which has seen club music recently distilled into an overcompressed and lifeless mas Far too many words have been wasted in the average Release Info Sheet. So let`s keep it short and LET THE MUSIC SPEAK FOR ITSELF. It`s simply no use to just read about a fine recipe, YOU GOTTA TRY! Compared to the upcoming web party scene, where it seems to be all about reviews, photos and actually empty venues (because everybody hangs out in front of a macbook), yes, FRIED TOFU IS OLDSCHOOL. And as loads of beautiful things are PHYSICAL BY NATURE, be it FOOD, SEX or MUSIC, it seems to be just so natural that these edits of SOULFUL 70's DANCE MUSIC are released on VINYL ONLY. So warm up your hotplates and put the tofu in the pan, IT ’S TIME TO SATISFY THE MUNCHIES!

Mau'lin, - Deeper Than The Sun featuring Amenta
This is the new EP on Alex Nut's Ho Tep recordings. Created by fresh London based producer Mau'lin featuring Canadian vocalist Amenta, Deeper Than The Sun is a club track steeped in history, mythology and the cosmos. At 140 bpm it's roots lie somewhere between, dubstep, house and broken beat.
The two varied productions on the B side are a taste of sounds to come, touching on Hip Hop, Broken Beat, UK Funky and even Musique Concrete the talented young upstart delivers an array of styles, stitched together using his own eccentric brand of needle and thread.

The release of the fourth studio album from revered production duo Booka Shade last year was greeted with widespread praise from fans and press alike, reaching the top 20 in the iTunes chart. Imbued with not only an uncanny understanding of the dancefloor, but a sense of true musicianship, ?More!? transcends contemporary club music, placing itself amongst a lineage of classic records. Following the great success of previous single ?Regenerate?, which hit no.2 in the Beatport chart, the fourth and final single to be taken from the album is the Scaramanga remix EP. One of the album?s standout tracks, ?Scramanga? is reinvented by the duo themelves, as well an impressive host of remixers who twist and contort it into myriad shapes, each harnessing different facets of the original and shining a new light on them with their new visions. Booka Shade take on ?Scaramanga? themselves with their ?Manga Mix?, re-appropriating the poignant and hypnotic foundations of the original to craft a nuanced and uplifting dancefloor hit. Carried forward by the symbiotic interplay of the drums and bass, rhythmic chord progressions surge through the track?s core, unfurling beautifully. The vinyl package also features versions from UK-based producer Reset Robot and Italian wunderkind Dusty Kid. Reset Robot pierces the vocal film with filtered synth stabs, giving the track an urgent propulsion which is bouyed by the swelling bass, while Dusty Kid strips away the layers to reveal a melancholic core, stretching it out over the ebb and flow of its nine minute duration. Since the release of the album the duo have been busy touring and since the start of the year they have played dates across Australia, New Zealand and Brazil, with a burgeoning DJ and live schedule that is set to continue throughout 2011.

SIDE A1 – “Tell Him I’m Holding On E-The-Hot Sunday Dub” Horns, guitar riff, awesome bass line, bongos and shimmering synth push this track. The vocal is infectious, a fun track. SIDE A2 – “Once I Begin” Disco magic! A real glittery track, super bass and wah-wah guitar. SIDE B1 – “Someday We’ll All Be Free” Growling bass and nice vocal, much deeper than the A side tracks. Beautiful percussive elements in the beat bring this track to life! SIDE B2 – “Still” DEEP bass line that has a really strong groove. Classic disco synths. This track has a really jazzy feel thanks to the keys. Bongos help it groove even more, with vocals giving a hypnotic edge!

Lightworks is a new record label based in London and for its first release is proud to present Ossie's Tarantula. The track was an underground hit in London's house scene in 2010. Initially championed by Ossie's good friend DJ Petchy on Live FM the track quickly picked up attention from the major players in UK underground music. Support soon came from Kode 9, Joy Orbison, Ben UFO, Untold, Brackles, Bok Bok and more - with Kode 9 so impressed that he swiftly signed up Ossie for a release on his Hyperdub imprint set to drop later this year. Tarantula is an unusually mature track from such a young producer and its smooth African percussion and lush synths mark it head and shoulders above the identi-kit house tracks currently swamping London’s underground. For the flip, Eglo Records’ Funkineven picks up remix duties and turns out a perfect example of his recent acidic excursions with a squelching acid bassline perforated by a slick 808 drum set that doubles up on the original’s dancefloor pressure. Meanwhile, Ossie shows further dexterity on Creepy Crawlies as he puts his tribal percussive elements into overdrive, the track is possessed by a twisted electro-shamanistic groove. Three distinct tracks - a solid 12” for dancefloor connoisseurs.

Boddika, - Breezin
Nonplus+ label owners Instra:mental have been working away on solo projects in 2011 with Al Bleek working under his Boddika alias and Kid Drama as Jon Convex. Here we have Boddika’s first output on Nonplus+ after his debut on Naked Lunch in 2010 and prior to his forthcoming EP on Swamp 81. His work has been supported by DJs across the board such as Benji B, Oneman, Scuba, Shy FX, Martyn, Ramadanman, Joy Orbison, Leofah, Skream and Zed Bias amongst many others. a) Boddika ‘You Tell Me’ ‘You Tell Me’ takes us back to the 80s with its electro tinged thumping drums and freaky synths. What at
first seems to be a pretty straightforward track slowly mutates into an ugly beast with its pitch bent lead and warping drum grooves that slowly swing so far out and eventually re-sync with each significant transition. Not for the seasick. aa) Boddika ‘Breezin’ On the flip Boddika provides another striped back dancefloor warmer but here he comes with a 4x4 drum pattern. With very few elements he exploits them all to their limits and the track moves with an everchanging undercurrent of acid bass coated with subtle synth melodies that work their way around the bass in a mesmerizing arrangement. Another example of Boddika’s talent for working sound to maximum effect and keeping it simple but effective.

Egyptrixx’s debut album Bible Eyes is set for an early March release on cult London label Night Slugs. Recorded over three months during the summer of 2010, Bible Eyes is a complete work that brings together elements of techno, house, hip hop and pop, while possessing a unique continuity - almost a story arch - of its own. The work of classically trained pianist and Toronto native, David Psutka, Bible Eyes is celestial club music; jeep music for a Saturn desert. There is an exhilarating right-but-wrong tension that all of Egyptrixx's tracks share - a shifting balance between melodic and dissonant, rapturous and antisocial. A crystalline vastness and glassy texture holds the record together. Opening track ‘Start From The Beginning’ drones in waves over white washed atmospheres and gentle piano stabs; a perfect lead into the house cycles of the title track. Lead single ‘Chrysalis Records’ bleeds into experimental pop and is matched perfectly with the vocals of Maya from Canadian band Trust. The journey shifts into the minimal techno realm on ‘Liberation Front’ followed by psychedelic (and gorgeous) down tempo broken beat on the irresistible ‘Naples’ and the trippy ‘Rooks Theme.’ Melodic techno is back in the picture on ‘Recital (A Version)’ before Trust’s other singer (Rob) lends his vocals to the spacey gothic pop of ‘Fuji Club.’ The bass breaks of ‘Barely’ and the jagged and pulsating ‘Recital (B version)’ provide the final chapters in Egyptrixx’ Bible Eyes.

repress! Killer new 12" with no information or song titles, simply called "Scott Grooves White Label Of The Month." The A-Side is an incredible techno track full of energy guaranteed to move the crowd at peak time. The B-Side is a grimey, acidic drum work out that will have the heads banging and bootys shaking. Can't wait to see what Mr. Grooves has in store for us next month.
