Baldo and Asok are two artists who certainly know how to keep themselves busy. Two big underground names who found time to sit side by side with the next EP from Good Ratio Music. Release dedicated to the 1978's BBC Radio 4 series The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy. Stu Robinson A.K.A. Asok is someone who has amassed a fine understanding of a wide array of scenes, styles and sounds from d&b to electro funk, disco to house and techno. With 20 years record collecting and almost 15 years DJing, the music this producer releases is an amalgamation of all that and more. It has found favour with esteemed labels like Use of Weapons, M>O>S, Lobster Theremin and Mule Musiq, plus running his own Scenery imprint. On this GRM's release his tracks are clearly marked by a dark influence. Two cuts fulled with analog feelings that come across to you with a crunchy, distorted and saturated soul. On the flip we have Baldo, an artist who has truly caught the house essence with his own deep vision. The man who 6 years ago started from scratch in Barcelona is today one of the artists that represent the future of the city. Currently resident of the unknown Razzmatazz, Baldo is no newcomer to the scene, having been involved for the last ten years. He completes the vinyl with drum clusters of his "707" adding a melancholic vibe, elements that accentuate the vision he brings together with his machines. Both tracks have a greater variety of layers and samples, and its rhythm change is more "infectious" as a result. Each of these tracks work straight out of the gate, and can add to any DJ's record bag.

Albion 04 brings forth one of the true pioneers of the French house scene with a three track ep from the infamous, Ark . The EP features 3 original tracks which have been dug out from the vaults of his studio deep in Lyon . The before now unheard tracks consist of three peak time slammers: Funk Da Police (2013) Dunktrain (1994) and Liposuccion (1996) all tracks emanate that raw, heavy hitting analogue sound which Albion is renown for. The third in a row of split releases by The Hague based BAKK Records is answered by MGUN (Manuel Gonzales) and Halvtrak. Detroit local MGUN already proved to be one of the more talented new producers and this time delivers a true trunk full of funk. Beautiful, warm and grooving house tracks on Barba Records, a new sub label from Zagrebs finest crew (the Burek posse). They start with LD Nero's "Anticyclone" ep. (a new alias for wellknown producer according the label) and this is also what can be expected on Barba... deep musicality, varied output and subtle inventiveness. "Eddy" is the most forward leaning of the three tracks, dominated by a swaggering bassline that bowls along like an oversexed locomotive, and is sure to be favourite with anyone who dances mostly from the hips. It's a steady builder, layering on softer organ stabs and psychedelic flutters to change the feel of the track while letting the underlying groove carry it forward. "Flow pattern" is slower paced, with a spooky bleep techno feel to the melody that is balanced out nicely by a warmer housey mood. The last track "Gyre" has a morphing rhythm that goes through three distinct phases giving dancers plenty to c hew on, and and a high, sweet, insistent melody that isn't deployed until the later half of the journey. And journey it is, the track genuinely shifts patterns and moods, not just adding on extra instruments to create a very powerful listening experience, while not lacking dance floor power. Overall a great package of intensity, emotion and depth and recommended for anyone who rates quality over genre or trends.

Lady Blacktronika AKA “the first lady of beatdown” brings three solid productions with All In Vain EP, the next instalment on Bass Culture Records. Discovered on Myspace by Mike Huckaby back in 2007, Lady Blacktronika’s sound brings a gritty edge from her street days, while simultaneously oozing a unique female sensitivity. Making an impressive transition from the days when the DJ boys wouldn’t let her play with their toys, she runs multiple labels, Sound Black Recordings, Sound Kemystry and is co-creator of Cocaine Records, as well as releasing on Deep Explorer, Skylax, Underground Quality and now Bass Culture. Jumping straight in with Learn Me Baby, the A side sets the tone with a deep and pounding, powerful groove. The title track takes it up a notch, the most incessant of the package, built for that peak-time dance floor fury. While the techno undertones remain, Lord Knows is a beautiful swirling house number that infuses the ears and body. The common denominator in all cases is the resonating voice of Lady Blacktronika herself, adding the human touch… a touch of soul.

Ronald Burrell's reputation as deep house royalty has long been solidified throughout the years having released on many legendary labels since the late 80's including Nervous, Nu-Groove, Strictly Rhythm & many more. Working both solo and alongside his brother Rheji his output has always caught the interest and ears of dance music aficionados world-wide with a heady mixture of Gospel, Soul / R&B, Jazz, & Garage heavily informing his sound. Surprising as it is, "It's A Boy" was never released, only ever existing as a test pressing! The 4 track EP takes in all the musical influences listed above and flips them into some seriously deep territory. Opener "Journey" is an epic jam punctuated by an 808 cowbell, beautiful pads, strings and Ronald's voice asking us to join him on a journey through our own minds. Second cut "Feelin Jazzy" picks up the pace a little, a stripped back rhythm blessed with some choice, chopped up Jazz samples and vocal stabs keeps things moving in the right direction. Over on side-B we are treated to the deepest groove of "Bedtime Story", which has all the trademarks of a classic Burrell production, soulful vocals, melodies and crisp drum programming. Closing track "The Crib" rounds things with off with a stomping church inspired organ groove, an up-lifting end to the EP. As mentioned above, this is the very first time this underground House classic has ever been released! This record is a real collectors piece and has commanded collectors prices on-line in the past, a real rarity. If you're going to launch a label, it pays to hit the ground running with your first release. That's exactly what the people behind Falstaff have done with this impressive debut. It features tracks from longtime pals Max D and Hashman Deejay. The former's track, "Shoegaze", continues the Washington D.C producer's recent trend of delivering tracks that defy easy categorization. This one is a blend of ghetto-tech, deep house and dreamy chords, with cut-up samples of various descriptions riding an urgent groove. Hashman Deejay's "Samba" is a little more orthodox, sitting somewhere between deep Detroit techno and humid samba house. It's a thing of rare beauty.

Two Decades EP sees London producer Missing join the fold for the fourth installment of Five Fold's mandate "...releasing quality dance music free from genre and tempo constraints". Hailing from the heady days of the UK Jungle scene circa '94, followed by a host of releases as one half of the breaks duo C83 throughout the noughties, Missing re-emerges on the scene with four dancefloor fillers spanning UK bass house, garage/ jungle grooves and vocal deep house. 'Reflections' sets the tone with a bouncy bass house driver replete with references to Amens past. 'Like a Rush' ventures into classic deep house territory featuring the soulful vocals of Heidi Vogel (The Cinematic Orchestra). 'Incoming' drops peak-time big room bass house badness punctuated by a distorted tear-out jungle bassline set to a heavy 135bpm 4/4 beat. The second release on Kutmah's IZWID imprint is a rare collection of bugged out electronic soul from the Los Angeles-based vocalist, producer and poet, Seven Davis Jr. "The Lost Tapes Vol. 1" spans 12 years of experimental, cosmic out-of-body-and-mind music, of mostly four and eight track recordings once lost in storage via a lengthly hiatus due to drug addiction and depression. Resurfacing in 2012, Seven Davis Jr.'s 'Thanks' appeared on Kutmah's much lauded "Worldwide Family Vol. 2" compilation on Brownswood Recordings, after which the kaleidoscopic artist released the clattering funked beats of "Lo-Fi Vintage" and house-inspired "One" EP. For IZWID, "The Lost Tapes Vol. 1" is a creative blueprint for Davis Jr.'s brilliantly unorthodox approach with his beautifully raw drums and psychotropic harmonies. "I made a lot of this music many years ago and other labels and artists hated on me for it," says Davis Jr. of the lost tapes. "They said it was too weird, too different, sounded like drug music (it was) and they told me I was going to hell, for 'Pornostar'. Years later; new life, new city, new day and age. I found the music again, which I never stopped loving and decided to send it all to Kutmah.

Tokyo-based Ryo Murakami has been releasing slightly minimal-inflected house music since 2007. His club-oriented work has always been subtly atmospheric and deliberately soft-spoken and non-confrontational, conjuring up an original sound that fits to modern-day house music like a glove. He co-runs and releases on the Panrecords label and has also published his music on Dessous, Poker Flat, Baud, Curle, etc. His 2013 album "Depth Of Decay" signaled a change towards a more experimental, ambient-based sound. Meakusma is proud to present these two new tracks that combine the forward momentum of his previous work with his new-found experimental approach. Both tracks play with atmosphere and impact, are essentially slow burners that through Murakami's subtle play with dynamics and change become incredibly moving and abstracted studies into groove and ambient sound. Cherry on the cake is the Porter Ricks remix, their first 'production under the Porter Ricks moniker si nce their 2002 Nine Inch Nails remix. Here they catapult the Porter Ricks sound into today, without losing their trademark characteristics. A hazy glow that is as revealing as it is mystifying covers the track, whilst the basis of it is, in the best Porter Ricks tradition, a surprisingly funky twist on the rhythm and bass of the original track.

The producer Ziad Rahbani (a great Lebanese composer) released only one disco project for the Zida label and was pressed in avery limited run in 1978 of about 500 copies only (due to some difficulties coming from the political situation that occurred in Lebanon), so today it's not easy to find original copies in nice conditions and you have to consider that the original pressing quality wasn't at the highest levels. We have now the opportunity to buy again this masterpiece remastered and repressed in Europe at high quality levels. Ziad Rahbani (born January 1st, 1956) is a Lebanese composer, pianist, performer, playwright, and political commentator. He is the eldest son of Fairuz and Assi Rahbani. His compositions are well known throughout the Arab world, especially because he is responsible for Fairuz's musical works from 1980s onwards. Many of his musicals satirize Lebanese politics both during and after the civil war, and are often strongly critical of the traditional political establishment.

"Falling" came out in 1989 on Steve Poindexter's cult Musique imprint and ticks all the boxes as far as cult Chicago House records go. All 5 tracks ooze classic lo-fi House grooves, the driving analog drum machines, repetitive, trance like pads, disjointed voices and those seedy late night vibes that we have all come to know and love are all present. Side A is called Korg the Groove, as the title already reveals, it's inspired by a classic Detroit Techno cut. Can you tell which one it is? On the Flip side you will find 909ish, one drum machine and one synthesizer, which is not much but all you need and more, plus there is extra noise on the clap to amplify your face slapping pleasure.

Bristol's Facta and Hodge are a pair of rising young producers who, more than most, have absorbed the influence of Tempa's early music and wielded it to create something defiantly their own. Hodge has been on a powerful run of form over the last two years, with a string of acclaimed 12"s for Livity Sound, Idle Hands and Hotline striking a unique balance between brutalist sub-bass muscle and vortex-like whirls of voice and percussion. Facta's releases for Soundman Chronicles and Idle Hands have been equally striking - dark, hypnotic and dread-filled rollers for the moodiest of dancefloors. You can hear both producers' approaches vying for attention on this collaborative 12", and the resulting tension turns the atmosphere electric. 'Spheres Of Costa Rica' draws a glancing sample of traditional chanted music into a dubbed-out, sidewinding riddim that seems to sink deeper and deeper as it plays, drawing your mind and feet along with it. Flip the record and 'Visions' mesmerises you further still: its swung drums summon the ghosts of UK garage, but blast them out into deep space, where fragmentary whorls of noise and firestorm sub-bass erupt all around you. As an EP it's a bold statement from all parties: dark, unerringly forward-thinking new music that takes Tempa's legacy in a vital new direction.

Uncanny Valley and Permanent Vacation are joining forces for an Uncanny Vacation! There has always been a lively exchange between Dresden and Munich and both labels are known for releasing a wide variety of music so it was only natural to team up for a joint release. The record starts off with Permanent Vacation-regular and UK-veteran DMX Krew and his "Astro Logical" which is as sharp and crisp as Electro can go. The bass line strikes hard but he also squeezes some great melancholic synth lines out of his machines. After that, Uncanny Valley's Sandrow M finally gives access to the much in demand live version of "Prayervan", a tune that everybody has been singing along during his live sets. On the flipside, Jacob Korn (who already released on both labels) hands in "Eieiei" which rises on a percussion-heavy drum basement to a discoid House stomper thanks to an irresistible sample straight from an obscure flea market find. Last but not least, Drvg Cvltvre from the Netherlands delivers a tropical House jam. "See You Again" is riding on a funky Disco bass line and creates a warm and cosy atmosphere with a whole bag of sound ideas. Alexander Dorn aka Credit 00 adds his graphical talents to the record's sleeve with a brilliant tribute to 1990s adventure video games.

A lot of water has passed under the bridge since the release of Etienne Jaumet’s Night Music, dating from October 2009. His hypnotizing music and enchanting live performances put him directly on the map. It’s just him who is in control of his ship. He moves without complexes from his saxophone to his drum machine (his beloved TR 808) while turning knobs modulating synths, and sending his voice through an echo.La Visite, Etienne’s brand new album, more luminous and jazzy than its predecessor, has been composed and produced within a two month period in the Versatile studio. It became a piece of introspection, mentally as well as physically. In the title track, for which Flop wrote the text, we hear Etienne travelling through the inside of a body, Fantastic Voyage style.It is always surprising to see a record taking shape. Etienne would arrive at the studio without any precise idea in head, approaching his work rather intuitively. He works standing up, which brings a very different energy than being seated behind a computer polishing up every detail. He is in total mastery of his set-up, ready to capture that short-lived moment of true creation. The only use a computer has for him, is to record his experiments - afterwards being mixed by Jerome Caron (Blackjoy).In between Night Music and La Visite, Etienne has not been lazy. Not only has he done numerous collaborations (amongst others with Joakim, Richard Pinhas, Francois & The Atlas Mountain) and picked up DJing, he has also recorded a new Zombie Zombie album (Rituels d’un nouveau monde) with Cosmic Neman, as well as the soundtrack Loubia Hamra. And he worked with artist Felicie D'Estienne D'orves on the installation Satori. At this very moment, Etienne and his saxophone are still part of the tour of James Holden.
