Whether on his own or with Nick Hoppner as My My Lee Jones has been DJing and making music for more than a decade. In 2008 Jones released his debut full-length LP "Electronic Frank" on Aus Music. His solo releases and remixes have appeared on labels such as Aus Music, Ostgut Ton, Liebe*Detail and Cityfox and last year, he did his first ever mix CD for the world famous Watergate Club. Next up from the talented producer is a futuristic 8-tracker on Aus which includes six original cuts (four digital-only) and two remixes from burgeoning UK producers and Aus Music family George FitzGerald and Midland. For the lead track Moment, Jones offers up a bass driven house number that hints at his jazz roots whilst pushing forward into garage territory. For the remix, George FitzGerald delivers his most straight up, heads down house production to date. Next up is Duvel, a characteristically quirky Jones production, bouncy and deep all at once but with a bass line that will hold its own at peak time. Midland steps up for the remix, twisting it into a moody multi-genre convergence like only he can.

Here's Mickey Moonlight's debut album! Full of discrete and subtle details this LP is definitely aimed for home-listening and not for the club (even if "Close to everything" is receiving massive support from our DJ friends...) Although MM has assembled a large and stellar cast of musicians the album still remains his singular and unique vision. He describes it as Science-Fiction Exotica. There are tales of biotech companies, artificial lovers, voluntary euthanasia, cosmic ambivalence, Discordian folk songs, time travel field recordings and psychedelic pattern-music.

Swiss label Cadenza have been living up to their unrivalled reputation as one of the strongest electronic music label’s out there having already released nine solo EP’s from long time Cadenza artist’s and exciting new family members since January this year. Striking while the iron’s hot they now announce ‘Cadenza68’ from Italian duo Shield vs Robytek with the ‘Way Of Life’ EP.Meeting minds for ‘Way Of Life’, Italian Rebirth Records owner Shield and veteran producer Robytek fuse their individual virtues to create a two piece cut with a twist. No strangers to working together, Shield and Robytek have a cemented collaboration history with three notable releases under their belt to date. ‘Way Of Life’ opens with “Rendez-Vous” and an immediately arresting piano chord groove that sets the scene. With a firm nod to classic elements, the rounded keys sit against vacuum closed hat’s and ricocheting tambourine’s denoting a timeless house feel that continues until ‘Rendez-Vous’s’ end.Pushing forward the bass line captivates with demure beauty; warm, prowling and confident it binds the sexy female vocal and tinkering scattered synths. Whilst “Rendez-Vous” may harbour that raw old school sound, it’s fiercely modern in its production excellence and building arrangement. On the B-side our Italian duo present EP title track “Way Of Life”. Contrastingly different to its predecessor, “Way Of Life” dives head first into wriggling percussion rhythms and twanging guitar riffs. Undoubtedly the absolute floor smasher of the two it builds, breaks and thunders for those irreplaceable late night moments on the dance floor when we are completely lost in the music. More than just a peak time dance track though, ‘Way Of Life’ explores jazzy saxophone swoons, exceptional live drum sections and swooshing beds to round out a mature and forward thinking house killer.

With support from the likes of Mihalis Safras, Osunlade, Davide Squillace, Joris Voorn, Dubfire, Matthias Meyer, Richie Hawtin, Rocco, Mario Aureo and Özgür Can the young Italian hot shot Riccardo Rizza is kicking off the fall on the Swedish imprint Colourful Recordings! The track, "I'm Liebe" has been a firm favourite with the Colourful crew over the summer. Now backed by a solid remix pack from Tiger Stripes, Boghosian & Torquato and label honcho Orange Muse, the release radiates a healthy dose of funk infused grooves. The original mix carries Riccardo's signature sound of deep thick bass, rolling pianos and haunting vocal snippets. A superb slice of new school tech house from the young Italian. Tiger Stripes brings a darker more upfront energy with big synth lines and percussive stabs, driving yet fragile and beautiful. The Sao Paolo crew Boghosian & Torquato takes the track into deep after hours territory with wood timbres, thick percussive groove and spaced out vocal chants. The Orange Muse remix displays a warped piano loop, solid tom action, sub bass drops and techno rides gunning for peak time plays. Philip Bader discovered his love for electronic music in 1998 – and it only took a year until he made his debut DJ appearance at the legendary Tresor club in Berlin. It didn’t take long before the natural born Berliner earned a reputation as one of the city’s most creative minds behind the tuntables, and the next step to production was only a logical progression. And it’s hardly surprising that Bader has regularly proven his originality and diversity, when he counts Led Zeppelin and De La Soul among his many musical influences.
The enjoyment of genre bending can be clearly heard on his newest Highgrade outing. This, his second solo EP for the Berlin record label, flatters the aural canals from the outset with an almost mystical sound, before suddenly popping out of the speakers, squeaking and peeping with urgent sound clips leading towards another musical realm. What might sound like an overwhelming potpourri, in fact fits perfectly to a custom designed original track with a steady thumping bassline. This is not just an indiscriminate use of effects, but a playful and experimental component. Also in the next track, Bader extends the conventional genre pigeon holes and crosses boundaries with audible pleasure. For whoever needs more on this theme: These two tracks are excerpts from a whole album, which will appear next March on Highgrade Records.

Only once in a while you would enter the real magic of House Music. How rare are those club nights, festivals, releases or tracks you get totally mesmerised, you feel like something changed. You want to take home that one party, the sound or a special moment to keep it forever. With Moomin's "The Story About You" we discover exactly this kind of experience. It is an album of uniqueness and transcendence, like a meteorite touching the ground of your own private garden. Sebastian Genz aka Moomin never intended to reinvent House Music as his productions come from the heart and are related to the lovely people's dancefloor. That's what gorgeous parties and releases of the White Label around Oskar Offermann and the Smallville imprint taught him: Real House Music is only possible within a soulful surrounding. Motivated and heartful so-called promoters but more friends and labelmates meet a sweet and open crowd to create their own little universe. With that inspiration Moomin is able to built an enchanting sound and wonderful tracks, stories for lovely people, "The Story About You". What we love about instrumental House Music is that reduction of groove and loop to the essential. A hypnotic theme that could last forever, giving a night its colour and deepness. The secret is not only his skills on quite an enormeous selection of vintage analogue machines, wether it is the holy Roland instruments Tr 606, 808, 909, the Roland Alpha Juno, an SP 1200 or a Korg Poly 61. The addiction of the musician for producing itself keeps Sebastian Genz playing the machines every day and night. After Moomin's releases on Berlin based labels White and Aim, it was just a tiny step to have a first 12inch on Smallville (cat.no. 26), as the friendship and exchange between those imprints has quite a history. The Smallpeople aka Just von Ahlefeld and Julius Steinhoff and labelmate Lawrence immediately fell in love with those tracks. The idea of an debut album was born- touching, moving and deep like the ocean.

It's a love story: Stil vor Talent have long been mad about Niconé and Sascha Braemer so that the recent past has seen some very memorable releases by the two producers. Now it's about time they join forces to release a whole album together. While Sascha Braemer only recently caused waves with his über-track "People", Niconé is a long-established pillar of top-class electronic music. And when he plays out, people realise which celebrated DJ and producer hides behind the alias.
Known for their often very musical techno and house productions, "Romantic Thrills" encapsulates this style while adding an extra element of sex and pop appeal, to put it frankly. All their production experience and DJ expertise seem to have streamed into an album that manages, in all its eclecticism, to be conceived as a complete whole. The tracks work like songs, unfolding their pure magic only when listened to in full: often adding new, but decisive elements later in the track, they are clear about when to drop the beat back in a seemingly subconscious fashion. Think what you want about electronic albums, this one is so much more than a mere collection of unreleased singles.
Let's begin where things start off gently with the slow-moving, piano-driven "Dreamer", which, halfway through, is more reminiscent of Radiohead than the sound of Berlin's club scene. Simply a pretty epic pop track with a great falsetto vocal line, then. "Little Love" progresses slowly towards deeper techno terrain with great sounding synth leads and basslines. Keeping the vocal elements central to the arrangement, it makes for a wonderfully deep and soulful tech anthem. "Liar" best represents the eclecticism at the album's heart. Over a Skaaeske groove, a chunky bass and considerably slower BPM, a male speaker humorously ponders over his relationship to drugs. This is bound to be a favourite at the afterhour. Title track "Romantic Thrills" then moves things back to the dancefloor, with an infusing tech-house groove, piano stabs and deeply hypnotic vocals. "Runaway", "Pianotic" and "Caje" represent three more prime examples of how to incorporate piano, trumpet or guitar melodies into electronic music organically without sounding artificial. The guitar on "Runaway" adds a deeply melancholic element to a track underlined by wonderful singing, which, again, reminds one of Radiohead. The melodies on "Pianotic" meanwhile make you want to hug the world again and again. "Caje" takes the Spanish guitar to the dancefloor, makes everyone sit in a circle and clap their hands to this Iberian summer wonder. The sun will break through the clouds when you put this on.
Things take yet another turn to more oldskool-orientated dancefloor music with "Never". Sascha and Niconé have managed to recreate a late disco track that meets up with Chicago House along the line. A thick bassline, some wonderful strings and a great melodic vocal make this track oh so very special. Up next a secret gem: "Love Me" is one of the most sexy tech tracks on this album. The billowing synth pads and mesmerizing vocal lead the way for the organic and super-deep bassline that kicks in at the very right moment, every time. With "Not The End" the album signals that it's actually slowly coming to an end. It's a powerful little piece of tech-house that works with many delicately arranged samples. Ultimately, "Thänk You" is another humorous and epic spoken-word piece, with a siren marking the groove and the piano melody causing shivers down the spine of the listener. What an ending to a top-produced and perfectly arranged album with 11 tracks of the finest quality!
Sascha Braemer and Niconé have clearly managed to create an album with distinct and versatile stylistic aesthetics. At full length, it unfolds like a familiar narrative to many a night out: it starts off dreaming about the club, then invades that space, letting the night progress, until it slowly comes to a reconciling end. This album is all killer, no filler. Just the way it should be.

This duo of Finnish architects launched their career in 2008 with ‚Spraycan‘ on Switch‘s Dubsided. They soon found eager champions in the tastemakers at Kitsuné, Sound Pellegrino, and the blogtelligensia over at Fluokids. By 2010, they were legitimate players, having remixed WhoMade- Who, Delphic, Crystal Fighters, Brodinski, Crookers, Health, and, most recently, Azari & III.
A more refined, structural sound emerged on the Babbadabba EP on Made to Play. And the larger scope of their commitment to intelligent design comes to fruition on their upcoming album on Turbo, erecting a post-tropical hermitage of Dancing Man’s Thoughtfunk. The music is highly detailoriented, referencing everything from bass music to curry house, with eyes and ears trained on millennia of art and concept, with a special emphasis on the millennia when music actually existed. The first single, „When You Do What You Do“ is a „Who‘s What You Who“ of blazing Critiical House. Renaissance Man. Designing the box. Building the box. Thinking on top of the box.

Cobblestone Jazz are back after the highly successful Memories EP with their second installment in the series. On the A side, we find the spaced-out zero-gravity jam Lunar Lander - its sparse and jittery beats complimented by some sweet key stabs and a thick and burly analogue bassline. Flip it over for Your Life (You're Life) - an uptempo slugfest of crunchy beats and a driving bassline that won't quit.
