Off The Meds is a Swedish-South African crew based in Stockholm, consisting of
producers Adrian Lux, Carli Lo¨f and Ma°ns Glaeser with vocalist Kamohelo Khoaripe.
The band first appeared on Studio Barnhus with the Ethio-jazz sampling hip-house gem
Currency Low, one of the standouts on the Stockholm label's 2018 compilation Studio
Barnhus Volym 1. This was followed by 2019's ravey smash single Belter, which came
paired with a much-lauded remix by London top selector Joy Orbison.
Their self-titled debut album arrives on Studio Barnhus in late 2020. First album single
Karlaplan was recently played by Four Tet on Benji B's show on BBC Radio 1, while
second single Wena got included in hotly tipped UK garage reformist Conducta's recent
Resident Advisor podcast.

In February 2020, the Philharmonie Berlin opened its gates for the first time in its history for a fully
blown electronic music program. Strom Festival continued for two days across three of the Berlin
landmark's jagged spaces. Stefan Goldmann had been invited to serve as the festival's artist-curator
and also performed its inaugural concert in the building's pentagonal Grand Hall. As much as this
event was without precedent for one of the world's leading classical music institutions, it is also an
uncannily typical match for Goldmann's rather unusual career path.
Though nominally techno, his music is distinguished by an ever-imaginative take on the form. From
exploring asymmetric rhythms to designing novel tuning systems to re-imagining the technological
base of electronic music – few have looked further beyond the genre's functional foundations.
Respectively, his music keeps appearing in contexts far removed from techno's club institutions –
featuring work with ensembles, dance companies, film makers and his own opera, as well as sitespecific performances at venues such as Kyoto's Honen-In Temple and LA's LACMA museum.
'Live At Philharmonie Berlin' is closely tailored to the Grand Hall, featuring a wealth of material
specifically developed to engage its architecture and acoustics. Apart from being a document that
brilliantly captures the Philharmonie's aural footprint with clear-cut synthetic probes, it also comes
close to being a retrospective of Goldmann's most striking formal ideas. Harking back to his early use
of wavetable synthesis for highly liquid units of pitch, timbre and dynamics, his recent
recontextualisations of industrial preset sounds and gradual shades of distortion fuse to shape the
soundscape of the one hour performance. These sounds then swirl through shifting microtonal grids
and freewheeling polyrhythms, solidifying into alien melodies, spiky transients and blocks of coloured
noise.

Now for something different! After a string of releases with dancefloor intent, Barcelona
based MOM returns to its more experimental side with NO MORE WHITE PRESIDENTS .
For this, Modern Obscure Music welcomes Black Meteoric Star (DFA/Nation) aka Gavin
Rayna Russom to the label. NO MORE WHITE PRESIDENTS is an experimental film
directed by Russom and soundtracked by her Black Meteoric Star alias. This 12” contains 3
choice excerpts from the soundtrack, the whole of which she self-released last year as
limited edition cassette. This is the first time any of this music has seen a vinyl release.

At the start of 2017, Gavin Rayna Russom came out as a trans woman and her transition is
one of the themes explored in NO MORE WHITE PRESIDENTS , as well as broader topics
such as capitalism and death. She has been releasing music since 1997 under her own
name and a string of aliases. Russom collaborated with Delia Gonzalez on the acclaimed
Days Of Mars in 2005, where they explored keyboard hypnotics. Russom was the driving
force behind The Crystal Ark with Viva Ruiz, and for the last few years has been an integral
part of LCD Soundsystem . The music of NO MORE WHITE PRESIDENTS is dark and
claustrophobic yet exciting. As far as the dancefloor goes, it is suitable only for the darkest of
clubs. Coffin Make r features jarring oscillating synths, angular beats and waves of acid.
Three Trains is a short track where tape hiss drifts over a tough rhythmic section and a dark
bassline. Stealth Technology finishes the release with punishing beats, oscillating acidic
synth lines and a growling bass. Not for the faint hearted!

AND so the spotlight pans to Quantec. Having launched Neighbour Recordings with the
Life Is Rhythm EP from Base Pilot, the studio collaboration between label owners Birke
TM and Quantec, the imprint now turns to the latter for a solo follow-up with the muchexperienced
artist turning in the tasty Moments EP. A self-confessed lover of old-school
synths and their lo-fi beauty and emotion, this child of the Eighties naturally gravitates
towards deep, dubby, Detroit-esque vibes and much more besides. You can hear it again
in his latest work. The dramatic mesmerising synths of Inception are the most apposite
aural appetiser, setting the scene perfectly for the main event and dovetailing snuggly
with the dub-flecked deepness of Momentum I and the irresistible drive of the truly dope
Nocturne. The pulsating, near-menacing throb of Momentum II explores different
territory – that of techno – whilst the spacey, chilled groove of Diurnal is the perfect
comedown from the EP’s more heady business.

"I have been in love with the Detroit sound of techno since forever, so when I discovered Subradeon, I was immediately struck by the soul and energy of their music. I have been lucky enough to get to know Giuseppe and Salvatore over the last year and so it was always a dream for me to have them release a record together on Sous. Continuing the story of his previous two iterations on this title, spanning 3 vinyl discs, it is a serene undertaking of unrivalled Motor City rhythms and sound. It finds the Detroit producer oscillating, from excursions in paradises of synth pointillism to husky storytelling and Dixon's peculiar beat work.
A master in letting shapes find their form, Dixon allows the listener to wallow in recurring scenes. Lost Communication Procedure, Found In Space and Remarkable Wanderer etch a sound world of choral vibrations and cinematic dirge. Where gaseous clouds scrape the natural sonic pastures of such environments, the hypnotized listener staggers a drunken step, moving sideways by 0 or 1 or -1 into new scenes. Not least an expert in industrial abstraction, a human silhouette permeates Dixon's sound. His ethereal storytelling portrays the heart-rending romance of Unconditional Love and unearths in I'm Away In Detroit monologuing moodscapes recalling our GPS voice assistants.
Out of Darkness initial recalls Kraftwerk's Geiger counter, as from pure signal data and feedback spells an unceasing locomotive wormhole. Hazy, dense grooves drive across bleak city scenes in We Can Rebuild Him, into the raw vibe of Framework and the rude stabs of Spectrum of Light. The varying presence of Dixon's work is one of his textural signatures, at arm's length, brushing right within, and far out. The bumping mood of Earth Station is one such moment, close enough to isolate the diving bass somewhere within, simultaneously from afar it becomes positively gravitational.
The first two records of the series are rightfully considered among the finest embodiments of contemporary minimalism, symbolic documents of afro-futurism. This new work revives the classic series, continuing the relationship between Tresor and the undisputed master of Detroit techno into the present day.

Conceived as a late 1960s Lost in Space type score with a 80s electronic twist, TerrorVision is one of the most unique soundtracks in Richard Band’s discography. Part oddball adventure, part eerie soundscape, it mixes the fun and flashy colors of the era with synth explorations that flirt with minimalism and experimental music. Band composed with a Yamaha CS70 plus twin ARP 2800s, a mini Moog synthesizer, as well as DX5 and DX7 keyboards, creating a groovy twilight zone of electrifying alien funk. The soundtrack also includes 5 numbers by deliriously wild LA band The Fibonaccis. One of a kind - like the movie itself!
