Iosefa Manumaleuna, aka DJ Hyperactive, is now back in Chicago after nearly 20 years in LA. Prior to his return, his classic Wide Open track got a serious re-working by Berghain resident Len Faki on Figure. As part of the Droid Behavior crew he released the 25Hrs. EP on Droid Recordings. More recently another DJ Hyperactive classic "Venus" got re-released along with Ciren and Truncate remixes on the "Venus Revisited" EP on Chris Liebing's CLR imprint. 2012 rmarked the return and start of a heavy remix cycle starting with Luis Flores "The Word" and recent remix of Mike Gervais "Churn" both on Detroit based Blank Code, Impact Unit "Dread" on Silent Steps, Manic Brothers "Sledgehammer" on Octopus Black Label, Truncate "31" on Gynoid Audio and the current list of TO DO's is long...!
The first release back in 1997 on 4 Track Records was by DJ Hyperactive titled P.51 and here were are nearly 20 years later and we're going to see the next release again by Hyperactive on vinyl again titled "Black On Black" EP. This EP will be three tracks, 2 which are acid tracks and one long experimental spaced out track.

Striking out with Animals, the latest BBC cut heralds a new dawn for the imprint that prides itself on unearthing fresh and unique talent. After spending time developing his gut busting live show, Duke Dumont adorns the A&R hat once again as he readies this new EP. Kiwi (AKA Alex Warren) is no stranger to creating sure fire dance-floor tremors; in fact, he's shaping up to be one of the most exciting young producers out there after tracks on Sneaky, Needwant, Kitsune and Deep Shit, with a string of remixes and tracks set for release in the coming months, plus a much anticipated back to back set with Mr Andrew Weatherall, the Animals EP stands as the perfect bridge into Kiwi's forthcoming summer season. With each track named after obscure species of wildlife, it's reflective of Kiwi's own penchant for touching the outer reaches of the floor, pushing the boundaries with unique and honed sonic interpretations. Starting life with wild intent, opening track 'ShortTail' takes on a pulsing, laser galvanised bassline, growling and pushing behind whirling atmospheric sweeps and layers of sub bass before dropping into a strong blend of techno drive and house swing, flanked by cowbell chimes and percussive nuances; make no mistake, this jacking track was aimed squarely at the soldiers on the floor. Next, Kiwi teams up with vocalist Takura for the light, dreamy and airy slow-mo house romp that is 'Fossa'. Takura's light, harmonic but strained vocals add an emotional quality to the ticking groove and slow-swing of the track, much like the cat like mammal that the track shares it's name with. On the flip, 'Atlanticus', going for a slow-mo, electro-boogie fusion, bringing together down tempo groove and slow and low bass, showcasing the London bred producers penchant for all shades of house music with an ethereal, musically charged composition. After this brief respite, it's back to business on 'Pelican', with a balearic feel accentuated by perky and fluctuating basslines, the tempo firing back up through a mesh of oscillating rhythms, compressed snare hits and an unstoppable groove.

This release captures kicks, rhythms, and snares—only to drag them kicking and screaming into a metallic underworld. In J. Tijn’s echo-sphere, there are only allusions to the status quo of sound and beats, and never a full-fledged embrace of the conventional. On Side A’s “Kanon V.I.P.” a grizzly digital war is left to play out between both kick and snare, with grainy battle lines drawn around upbeat and downbeat. Survivors of the conflict are rewarded with a groove reminiscent of grime, if only the genre had been reborn in a dystopian future. Side B opens with a roughneck beat on “MOR” before turning its hand into a fist and effectively destroying its own image. The groove lives through this barrage of sound, but as a heavy and dark undercurrent just strong enough to remind you where J.Tijn’s roots are. “Shy” lures you in with a rounded electro kick, before glutting the rhythm and ushering in a wall of sound. A snowstorm of screaming drum samples proceed to surround you: you may have been here before, but you are somewhere rhythmically unseen. Embedded in all of these tracks are perhaps a sign of the times: the things that used to be seen as normal have now changed and mutated.

We left Herva & Dukwa with a bunch of bangers with their latest Ep "It Fell Down"… we found ?em back only after few months with their first Life's Track longer player featuring an impressive variety of styles but always with their unmissable, raw and twisted up touch. This album of 8 tracks, spread in one twelve and a seven inches, starts on A side with the funky break of "Needed", continuing with the deep driving moment of "Amore" and the hip hop beat of "Put It On". On the flip side instead we find the catchy vocal riff of the stomping roller called "Freak With Us" followed by the soulful ghetto tech vibe of “Call It You” and the melancholic, romantic, stoned and rotten lullaby of "Tired Brass". More tasty and unusual grooves are included in the tiny wax which close the record up, on a side the peaceful, abstract, suspended and atmospheric dimensions of “Play With Me” and on the other the glow-fi-sh and "emo"-tech wave of "Venere". Sources is a brand new series which will examine the output of a number of extremely influential independent U.S. labels throughout the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s.Bill Brewster, co-founder of the influential DJ History website and forum and author of the acclaimed “Last Night A D.J. For centuries, young wild boars have been denied of their right to gather freely and fall in love. Their military based rituals were designated to reinforce twisted ethical principles in the minds of the followers and were the only social interaction allowed. A group of young infidels finally stopped fighting the urge and created a new ritual based on dancing, called Lambada. This spiritual journey awoke the suppressed spirit of the wild boar and revealed the sincerely beautiful nature of this noble animal. Sadly, Lambada soon became known as the forbidden dance and all it's partakers were persecuted. To this day, Lambada remains an underground ritual and the Legalize Lambada crew is on a quest to revive it by throwing disco parties and pressing undercover vinyl. Kito Jempere makes his Let’s Play House debut this June with a captivating four-track EP ‘Amended Wonders’ featuring a remix from Palms Trax. Local Talk and their LTX series is proud to introduce you to UK producer Black Fan. It's a new name to many, but this exciting producer has a House music heritage, DJ pedigree and record collection matched by very few. After a long history of DJing and promoting that goes back to to the late 80s he took a brake from the scene in 2008. But like anyone who is House, he never truly left it. One night a little while ago, whilst staring at a wall of records and fighting the urge to get down all night in a sweaty little basement, he came to terms that it's just in his bones. He dusted off an old drum machine, started to make some music, and there the Black Fan alias was born. On his Local Talk debut Black Fan goes dark and gritty with a deep warehouse feel. The opening track 'In The Water' delivers on all points if you've got a weak spot for deep analog layered house with a Baby Ford(ish) aura. The second track 'Dancing Together' is a simple but effective 90's house routine that will bring out the house dancer in you. The last and final track 'J2015' takes us back to those warehouse days when all that mattered was a raw house beat over some nasty electronic sounds. Black Fan is back even though he never really left!

The people behind the amazing Mareh festival in Brasil (the Southern Hemisphere's answer to Electric Elephant), drop yet more top drawer music as their label journey continues to gain strength. Set in the lush settings of Bahia where day blends into night and sun into moon, Mareh continues to attract some first class artists from around the world to release on their imprint. The second release kicks off with Glasgow based production wizard The Revenge letting loose a late night groove that takes a blissful string sample and then works it for the dance floor. It's top stuff from the man with the roaring grooves. And rumours have it that The Revenge himself will be headlining at this year's legendary NYE event in Bahia alongside Tim Sweeney, Pete Herbert & Dicky Trisco. Next up is Berlin based disco and house aficionado Eddie C who drops an uber cool, cut up disco chugger that is likely to work your sunset and early morning sets to the max. Mareh favourite Pete Herbert then steps up to the controls and delivers an upbeat, Balearic dance floor banger that hits all the right notes and then hits them again. You can almost smell the hierbas on this one! Last but not least, Tokyo based Englishman Max Essa delivers an electronic ode to late night dancing and early morning dips as he joins the dots between the Tokyo Underground and the fresh Bahian surf. Wonderful stuff. So Mareh really are out to pull in a truly global sound to their label outing with Glasgow, Berlin, London, Ibiza and Tokyo all represented as well as their spiritual homelands Sao Paulo, and of course the place where it all happens each New Year...Bahia.

The fourth release from Palms & Charms sees the return of label co-owner Barnaby Bruce; ruminating on the perils of fine fabric care.
We've all been there – a lengthy session on the dancefloor playing havoc with the pile of your velvet coat. Faced with this dilemma, Barnaby reaches for the battered volume, passed down through untold generations of his family, detailing archaic yet uncannily effective methods for extending the life of even the most exquisite textiles. As he does so, the percussive jazz-tinged boogie of Sweat on Velvet takes over his mind, unleashing a wave of dancefloor euphoria. Not to be outdone, Pete Herbert (Reverso 68), unveils his own masterful fabric care techniques, providing a remix that will starch your collar and shake out the creases. Not the same clothes, but something brand new. Freshly attired, Barnaby begins to notice curious and somewhat unsettling noises coming from the next room. He gingerly opens the door, and is confronted with a seance in full swing. Strangers sitting around his dining table wait with baited breath for word from the other side. Seth Troxler follows up a slew of cross-genre releases across his Soft Touch and Tuskegee labels with another offering on his no-nonsense imprint Play It Say It.Every bit as much a stalwart of vinyl DJing as a producer The Mekanism’s previous releases have touched Needwant and Los Suruba. As a DJ, he holds down a residency at Showcase in Paris as well as maintaining summertime slots at one of Ibiza’s most loved underground parties Antz. All the while he has consistently rolled out the sort of taught, bumping grooves that lend him perfectly to Play It Say It and his latest offering is no exception: Tough and tumbling bass lines peppered with nifty vocal samples and flecks of acid. ‘Acid Love’ kicks things off with a circling bass pattern punching beneath sharp, shuffling percussion and stuttering vocal samples. ‘Lost Girl’ then drives a spoken word sample through a hefty bass pattern and hallucinogenic delays that are sent shimmering across the mix in a manner certain to send the floor into rapture in another fine addition to the Play It Say it series.

Rotating Frames is the new EP for Pole Group by our very own duo Exium. Four tracks of modern and obscure techno, fuelled by heavy sub-bass action.
'Monopoles' opens fire with massive bass frequencies and continuous hat lines, joined by an obsessive sequence that mutates while it moves around the arrangement.The approach of 'Magnetic Flux' is deeper than the previous track, starting with flanged sequences and a subtle bass drum. Bell-like sounds grow from zero until drones and atmospheres appear from the slight breakdown.'Rotating Frames' goes straight to the point and rises the tempos a bit, continues with the flanged and phased sequences and relies on a more percussive vibe.'Early life' is the last number here: robotic FM sounds, effected noise hits, continuous synth lines and a constantly growing structure.

Pressure Suit is proud to present its first album project, Dinsync from Michal Matlak, better known as The Analog Roland Orchestra (TARO). After making waves with EPs on labels like Ornaments Music, Pastamusik, Polymorph and Rotary Cocktail Recordings, TARO kicks off the Pressure Suit catalogue with nine tracks of experimental and inventive Electronica, Techno and Electro. Stepping away from his usual machine driven dub tinged techno and house for which Matlak is widely acclaimed, Dinsync offers an aural exploration of TARO’s reflections of the unique circumstances and characteristics of the current world we occupy and ultimately questions the future of the human race on Earth. Overall, this concept of humankind’s self-destruction and future survival is approached by Matlak with a combination of bleakness and optimism which is conveyed perfectly through his vast collection of vintage analogue Roland Corporation instruments. The nine tracks of this LP offer an intertwining journey of electronic styles from the classic Electro vein of “202 Heroes” and “Safe!” to the chunky electronica of “Weird Vibrations” and “Burned Earth”. These are gelled perfectly with the haunting orchestral excursions of “If Then...”, “Really?”, “Dinsyncer”, “Oh Scary Svalbard” and “Hoaxy”.

Liverpool label Scenery Records continues to shine a light on local talent by next turning to Mark Forshaw for a new four track EP. Remixing is the singular Autodidakt Records boss Daniel Andreasson and once again the release showcases a gloopy, analogue heavy house and techno sounds with influences of acid and beyond. Before now Forshaw has released on labels like Mathematics, Tabernacle and Apartment and is also a member of Phantom Planet Outlaws with John Heckle and Binny. Having been involved with the Merseyside scene since the 90s and as a DJ who has locked down many a dance floor, Mark is a learned and well informed house head with plenty of say for himself. Up first, 'Peer Pressure' is a slithering bit of jacked up house music with a grubby, oscillating bassline and firmly planted kick drums. A searing acid line eventually cuts into the mix and flips and drifts about as the groove percolates below and it makes for enjoyably dark and intense listening. Daniel Andreasson remixes with his usual idiosyncratic style and layers up oodles of scuzzy sonic noise, dirt and lo fi texture on top of a swampy techno rhythm and snaking, spiralling synths. Fully dystopian in nature it makes way for the blistering stomps of bleep techno monster 'For No One'. This raw acid concoction is a broody and alarming affair that cannot fail to blow minds. Next up is the rather more lithe and elastic, hurried and energetic bit of techno minimalism that is 'Raptures'. With rubbery kicks and Rob Hood style synths is scurries from start to finish in gloopy, unhinged fashion. Lastly, 'The Push' is a prickly, fulsome brew of cowbells and claps, razor edged synths and lumpy drums that rides up and down, sticks out in many direction at once and generally does a fine job of firing your every synapse. This is another no nonsense EP from Scenery that is lovably rugged and unpredictably creative.

After waiting 3 long years, and finally getting the multi track session to do a b side, I'm proud to present The Star Blazers cover version of the masterpiece " danger zone " which was originally done my Midnight Express. Many should be familiar with Detroit producer Recloose, while back in New Zealand he assembled a band who called them selves Star Blazers ( an ode to the 70s legendary japanimation series and a big hit on Boston's tv38.. Indeed Recloose is from Massachusetts ) and they recorded a few cover tunes. Upon hearing this I knew it was special. While most modern covers miss the mark, purely emulating and sounding like a cheap imitation, leaving me wanting to just play the original... They flip the tempo, swing and vibe, straight up owning this and making it their own.

Hot on the heels of killer releases by label heads Ryan Crosson and Shaun Reeves, the latest Visionquest release sees the label turn its head to Deadbeat aka Scott Monteith. The Berlin based Montrealeler has been putting his own spin on house and techno for some time now, putting his stamp on esteemed labels such as Cynosure, Echocord and Wagon Repair. The Jacks EP continues his fine tradition of putting out discerning fare, as he conjures up a new EP package that remixes his classic track, Mecca Drum Track (originally released on Wagon Repair), from 2008. Striking in its many intricate and delicate production wares, it’s a polished effort from the outset. The Jacks EP gets going with the suitably titled ‘’Berghain Drum Jack’’, a suitably raucous and out-there slice of tribal tech that pays homage to the Berlin club and is notable for its banking percussive elements and its propensity for surprises. Starting off on an unrelenting tip, it gets even more off-kilter the longer it stretches out, as the drums become even more pronounced and the baseline finally enters the fray. Dark but dexterous, it’s a thrilling track that’s sure to more even the most ardent and discerning of dancefloors. Middle track ‘’Mecca Drum Jack’’ sees the producer opt for a similarlly-inclined vibe, as the drums play a similarly pertinent role. A fitting tool with which to light up your set, it’s more dextrous in nature than what’s arrived before but another altogether engrossing effort. Rounding off the weighty three-tracker is ‘’Acid Dub Jack’’, which sees Deadbeat really go off on a frankly mental course that’s littered with atmosphere from the get-go. Once again, Visionquest and Deadbeat have reminded us why they’re both so cherished in the techno world.
