444/5/6 is the first four-track EP signed by UNC on the very recently born techno label AIIA Recordings based in Lyon, France. UNC (also known as Dubit) means « uncompromise » (Unc0mpr0m153), even by laws and habits of techno, for a free production and a free interpretation of this music composed by this Berlin based techno producer. 444/5/6 is blending different ways of sound creation, as if every element in life might be used in UNC's music. Some industrial samples are combined with dark techno basslines and ambient synths, attesting of the experimental side of the artist. In his work, UNC is giving a true estheticism to sounds normally cold and impersonal in the context of daily life. 444 blends a kind of dark and deep samples which reverberate on an almost acid but hypnotic rythm.Sloven's re-interpretation of 444 puts in this track, keeping the original samples, some digital sounds on a evolving rythm... like an heart, beating and racing along this track. 445 is the most electronic, rythmically speaking, track of this EP. Still gathering techno, with adding industrial samples, which makes 445 the kind of experimental track by UNC. 446 is the track which most refers to techno as it's known and produced nowadays. When soft and really high synths meets agressive and speedy rythms.

Chris Carrier’s brings us the latest installment from his ever-trusty Adult Only label, with a firecracker from Julian Alexander, a rudeboy from Holland, Utrecht to be precise. Julian’s close ties with Slapfunk Records, the label that released Carrier’s most recent artist album, make him the perfect candidate to captain this new release, which is full of murky grooves and simmering energy. Across three tracks Julian brings encapsulates that Adult Only flavour, kicking off with ‘Butress Roots’ a bass-heavy roller with an eerie overtone and a minimal make-up – watch out for the extended breakdown, it will send shivers down your spine. Up after that we have ‘XY’ a more up-tempo, bouncing, dance floor destroyer. Major vibes on this one. On the flip ‘Point Of View’ brings the energy down again, with a steady flow, and a slow-building pads together with an indecipherable female vocal clip that adds to the captivating atmosphere. Carrier steps in to remix ‘Point Of View, closing out the EP with a punchy demonstration of his production prowess. Raw.

A mesh of wires pump electrified impulses through a selection of analogue machines, creating a symphony of beats, rhythms and basslines. Minimal frequencies combines with bright synth lines and sombre melodies… Chris Carrier’s studio is alive with fresh sounds conceived for his new album, which is produced under his Monsieur Georget alias. It’s the name that has been utilised for a series of scintillating live performances and, under this moniker, he now brings us a very personal long-player that reveals another side to one of the most prolific producers in Paris. Across eight tracks Monsieur Georget explores his playful side, employing his collection of vintage and contemporary gear to create something timeless and inspired. Fatherhood adds a personal touch to the album, as his daughter not only provides inspiration for the music but also contributes to the album via her own musical instruments, which Monsieur Georget uses in tandem with his own equipment. His penchant for cycling and a deep love for his own city also permeate into this extended body of work, resulting in a collection of tracks that offer a sincere insight into the man behind the music. It’s funky, rolling and utterly fresh with touches of jazz, soul and a clear nod to the traditions of house music, with a modern, French, touch. Spark up a fat one and meditate to the absorbing sub bass of ‘Conique Tribute’, the deep, grooving opener, which has echoes of the Caribbean reverberating through it. ‘Tom Tom’ follows up with a punchy, though minimal flow guaranteed to get your head nodding and hips swinging. ‘Droit Au But’ is aimed at the dance floor, underpinned by dynamic percussion and a large dose of funk – football and traditional French pastime Pétanque (boules) are the inspiration behind this killer track. The legendary Curtis Mayfield is the driving force behind the louche, reclining viber ‘L’ami Curtis’, which drifts along with a spritely warped string arrangement at its heart. ‘Nuit Sans Filet’ works around Monsieur Georget’s unique use of stripped down classic house shimmers and a bulbous b-line. ‘Jazzavue’ is a heads-down take on the genre with a rumbling bassline, hushed vocals and cleverly-programmed percussion. ‘L’homme De La Cave’ pokes fun at Carrier’s 20 years + in the studio, his cave, where he beats his drum and entrances the listener with his lush grooves. The track’s tribal rhythm illustrates this perfectly. Finally, ‘Dong’ closes out the LP with deliciously twisted analogue bells, delving into his fascination with the instrument. Rich, diverse and full of youthful tones, Monsieur Georget’s album is the work of a producer whose love for electronic music clearly runs as deep as you can imagine. Essential!

Agraphobia by LA Synthesis is considered by many as one of the most beautifully crafted string-driven techno tracks of all time. Originally released in 1994 it has received somewhat of a legendary cult status. 21 years later it is now time to breathe new life into this essential track and make it available again for a new generation of electronic music enthusiasts. Together with De:tuned, LA Synthesis handpicked some of their favourite producers to rework the original and the results are mind-boggling to say the least. First up is Plaid who step in and deliver a skittering remix that soaks up the original melodies and continually morphs as it progresses. Ian O'brien turns out a stunning Detroit flavoured remix with rich, warm synth sounds and sublime melodies that really enhance the ethereal feeling of the original version. Terrace breaks down the track into a stomping 4/4 Detroit techno affair with extra synth layers and bleeps to create a more urgent feel. ADJ adds a subtle ambient intro before releasing the original framework with a solid underlying electro beat, only to switch it up again halfway. Carl Finlow transmogrifies the original into a moody darkroom electro piece with menacing textures. Think robots, lasers and acid bleeps. Serious electro for the dance floor. Last but not least the original version of Agraphobia remastered by Matt Colton is also included in this package, and it's sounding better than ever. Agraphobia Relapse will be available as a 2x12inch 180 gr vinyl release as well as a digital release. UK techno stalwart Ben Sims adopts his Ron Bacardi alias for an outing on Bass Culture Records, bringing with him three varying slices of 4x4-based music. D’Julz has a deep penchant for bass and funk, and this is evident throughout the EP. We get off to a rugged start with ‘Rock Your Body’, a deliciously dark slice of grumbling techno. Intertwined with the morose bassline is a mysterious, tribal-esque female vocal, warped and twisted to add a primal feel to the track. On the flip, Bacardi puts his a different hat on giving us ‘First Effort’ a vivacious funk-laced hybrid, which teases you spitting out intermittent trumpets and other such live instruments. Finally, ‘The Money/Dub’ goes straight into disco territory with that oh-so-familiar entrancing rhythm that will keep you fixed to its beat from start to finish. That filtered wah-wah guitar is impossible to resist, especially when combined with such crisp percussion. Sheer quality from Monsieur Bacardi…

A classic house track gets a re-release and an extra special edit from Bass Culture owner D’Julz. The edit of Chicago groover ‘Don’t Let Love Pass You By’ from Master C & J has been a staple of D’Julz’ sets for quite some time now. Over time more and more people have asked about the track and he duly responded to demand by not only clearing his rework for release, but also signing up the original to be reissued via his label. So we have the original version, which oozes Chi-town sleaze, remastered for 2015 together with the superb edit by the man himself, D’Julz. Need we say anymore?

After a very promising debut almost an year ago with their "Super Quartet EP", Nas1 are backon Bosconi Extra Virgin with another 6 tracker of modern detroit influenced house. Hot on the broken heels of Nothing Left, his smash debut LP for Chicago's CLEAR records, CGI boss and Atlanta's own TWINS graces his own imprint with Never Know Yourself, a three-track EP that treats listeners to a different side of the producer's output. A-side cut "Tassel (Now You Know)" is pure emotivational dancefloor catharsis: behold a distorted 909 chugging away under a funky FM bassline and thick pads of melancholic ghost organs while a soaring lead and a haunted croaking mantra take it all the way to tear-jerking dance floor rapture. Flip it over to the B-side and immediately have that sorrow cleansed by the brutal assault of "Suggestion”, a heavy and distorted techno bomb that's all shifting rhythmic cycles and out-of-control synth chirps, sounding like something ripped from a Frankie Bones mix circa 1992. Closing things out is a sleazy slab of subconsciously mid-dreamstate insta-composed Chicago house ripped right out of the back of TWINS’ head, and it’s appropriately titled "Feeling (From Beyond)." A juicy and rotund bassline of the most evil kind holds steady as matrix-defying bongo-and-kick patterns rise and fall while whispered provocations tie it all together in a banger suited only for the stickiest of dance floors.

CRFSPLIT is a new series, a collaboration between CRF and a guest label with two different artists. For the first release, we choose CLFT, the French label based in Lyon. On the A side we ask Birth of Frequency to do two tracks, The Scar and The Fink, two hypnotic and abstract tunes, with a dry and claustrophobic atmosphere. CLFT choose 2030 on the B side with Life’s Lake and Fallen-in, very Detroit influenced with light pads and melodies.

At the beginning of the 1930s, the press magnate Dominique Willem Berretty still held power over the Dutch East Indies. From the very lowest rung, this teacher's son, born 1890, raised a media empire upon a single principle, "Activity, Activity, Speed". As a clarion call from the future, it heralded the construction of a new world, one where information was faster than light, where modernity would be celebrated by an ever firmer grip upon the accelerator pedal. But control of his press agency (baptised Aneta, for always number one in spite of everything), driven at full bore, would begin to slip away: politicians no less than his competitors, began to tire of his monopoly. In October 1932, as his empire was fading, he commissioned architect Wolff Schoenmaker to construct the palace of his dreams: the Villa Isola, north of Bandung. D.W. Berretty would have but several months to enjoy his art-deco pearl. On December 20 1934, bankrupt, he would fly to Europe aboard a DC-2 Uiver in order to sell Aneta to the highest bidder. But he was never to complete the voyage: the first flying machine equipped with automatic piloting would crash down upon the town of Ar Rutba in Iraq. By tracing back through time and his memories (particularly those of a trip to Vietnam), Pilooski - who we've seen in duo as Discodeine and solo, in the Dirty Edits series - would end up pushing open he door to the Villa Isola: a vestibule leading to a double spiral staircase framing a marble pediment engraved with the words M'ISOLO E VIVO (I isolate myself, and live). On the first floor lay a grand semi-circular reception room opening onto French gardens. Before the windows, leather easy chairs arranged with maniac regularity about a round table. On the lid of a grand piano, a virgin in polished glass, and on the walls, oil renditions of Dutch canals jostled with jungle watercolours. One floor up in the constructivist bar, Berretty had installed a film projector. What would he have watched, cocktail in hand, alongside his guests? Herbier's The Inhuman Woman, Murnau's Tabu, or Chaplin's City Lights. Who could tell? As a tribute to this projection room, Pilooski has imagined four original soundtracks owing as much to radio broadcasts for insomniacs as they do to recorded recitals for children. With Eden Ahbez's Eden's Island album in mind, he has called upon the following contributors: Jarvis Cocker (Pulp) has chosen an extract from Carl Gustav Jung's The Red Book; Judah Warsky has written an homage to the sun and the moon ; Narumi Hérisson (Tristesse Contemporaine) reads a passage from Ango Sakaguchi's Sakura No Mori No Makaï No Shita; and writer Simon Liberati (Anthology of Apparitions, Jayne Mansfield 1967, Eva) a fragment from one his 113 Studies of Romantic Literature. For four exotic and minimalist pieces of spoken word, over which Clément Froissart plays flute, Axel Lecourt, percussion and Julien Vichnievsky the guitar. Together, the pieces make up Isola, the new Pilooski EP.

OVERVIEW: Toby Tobias has been responsible for some fine quality music over the past 10 years with labels such as Rekids, Nang, Let's Play House and Quintessentials all dropping his unique brand of raw, analogue house and techno. A DJ's DJ who always seems to pull out a lesser known gem and make it sound like a classic, Toby knows his music as well as his studio, inside out. We've been proud to deliver three EP's from him on Delusions but we all felt the time was right for a full length, especially considering that 7 years have passed since his debut LP Space Shuffle on Rekids. Toby fully embraced the scope and breadth that an LP affords a producer, holing up in his Hackney studio and losing himself in his machines. Rising Son is the result of those sessions and it's brilliant!

From the opening machine funk of The Wonder featuring vocals from Atwell we can hear that Toby is quite sure about the direction he's taken for the LP. 808 beats bring vintage electro vibes whilst Atwell's vocal hints at the golden era of Chicago house, adding a soulful touch to the rigid groove. Love Affair continues the theme of off-world utopia where the droids have a heart and soul and sing torch songs of love lost, the Moroder-esque influences bringing a retro sheen to the LP. As we continue through tracks such as
Sloflava and Sending Signals we find blissful, downtempo jams which perfectly soundtrack this imagined night time world which Toby seems so happy to immerse himself and his listeners in.

I Robot follows, providing the one cover version on the LP from the Alan Parsons Project as well as being an LP defining focal point. A track which shows that when the machines are working for you, it could just be a perfect world. But Broken Computer soon shows us what can happen when things go wrong. Incidentally, this is from a genuine computer crash which Toby managed to capture using his phone. A beautiful glitch in the system which spewed out such a mournful noise and a very happy accident that would be completely impossible to create if you set out to try.

As we continue we're treated to the likes of Friday Analogue Jam, Whisper It and Weird. Danger, all echoing bleeps, squelching bass notes, heavenly pads and precision beats. In some ways we get a feeling of a land that time forgot, in others something of sublime beauty and futurism. That Toby can paint pictures with his music in this way speaks volumes, knowing instinctively when to draw out a mood or feeling or flip things on their head to command your attention and beg another listen. And another.....

Kyle Geiger returns to Droid Recordings for a three-track suite of techno and rhythmic experiments, Jupiter Storm. A1(Jupiter, Hydrogen Edit) builds from a rumbling kick, slowly constructing a space of delayed tones and filtered noisse pressure aimed at the dancefloor. B1(Mars) takes things for a truly unexpected turn, borrowing some of Jupiter’s sonic language and reformulating a triple-metered groove with waves of noise and distortion. The title track, Jupiter Storm(B2) brings the full kick back into the picture riding the Mars rhythms against the standard kick for a track that’s driving and infectious.

Poland's Father And Son Records And Tapes presents another stellar release from the man Das Komplex. Side A brings us two remixes from his much sought-after debut EP "Nowadays": first one is dreamy "Like A Fish", here treated by Norwegian disco legend Rune Lindbaek together with his partner Helene Rickhard. They extend the ambient intro, which is followed by super-catchy bass and drums, slowly adding guitars for maximum uplifting effect, a true Balearic anthem. Next, the space-disco duo U-Ka turn "Siren" into a full-on slo-mo bass-heavy club hit, with shuffling rhythms and distorted vocal samples, definitely one for the dancefloor. Side B bring the title track, a new gem from Das Komplex, apparently designed to tear apart the clubs worldwide: a 16-minutes long monster of a tune, seamlessly melting deep house, disco and new wave into a completely new and original quality - not to mention a vocal sample taken from some obscure Polish record. Another sure shot for Das Komplex!

When commissioning remixes, the best labels think outside the box. That's exactly what Firecracker's Lindsay Todd did when seeking out producers to rework tracks from Linkwood's excellent Expressions album. On this second 12" in an ongoing series, that faith has paid dividends. Whereas the original version of "Ignorance Is Bliss" was a warm, woozy, sun-kissed deep house affair, Healing Force Project has reinvented it as a stargazing chunk of 21st century space jazz, complete with twinkling chords, low-slung double bass and reverb-laden drum solos. The Musephased interpretation of "Love Lost" by Kimochi label head Area sticks closer to the ultra-deep, melancholic vibe of Linkwood's original, but adds a frisson of excitement via bubbling, Detroit-influenced electronics and hypnotic rhythms.

Next up to add his sounds to the ever impressive Hotflush cannon is Argentina’s Shall Ocin. He serves up The Cliff/The Mist, a two track EP that showcases his knack for infectious groove in all its glory. The man born Nicolas Abalos has released music under a number of aliases over the last decade plus, but it is as Shall Ocin that he has had most success. Putting out music on labels like Culprit and Ellum Audio, he has established himself amongst contemporary tastemakers and here cements his reputation with a great debut on Hotflush. Opening the account is the excellent ’The Cliff,’ a steely main room house track with grinding synths that roam and whir about above weighty bass. It’s a physical, arresting track that brims and bristles with apocalyptic fervour and will truly work crowds into a lather as it continues to build. ‘The Mist’ is much more in your face, with malfunctioning machines smeared about above metal drums. It’s a real writhing monster that twists and turns with great filter work making for the most dramatic of atmospheres. This texturally rich, maximalist EP makes a fine new singing for the UK label and is another great entry into Ocin’s increasingly essential discography.

Mark Jenkyns and Christopher Sylvester have joined forces as 12 Stories to release the heavy duty ‘Night Obscure EP’ on Hot Creations. The EP features two original and unique no nonsense club weapons plus an equally solid remix from Bunte Bummler. On the A-side, the acid induced ‘Showtime’ uses a sample from a ghetto fight to aptly fit the name of the track. After spending a lot of time in the studio and using numerous bits of Roland gear, the second track ‘Night Obscure’ finally came together when Mark’s neighbour spontaneously sang a French poem for the the vocals. No stranger in the Hot Creations camp Bunte Bummler uses the vocals to full effect over deep chugging percussions, while keeping hold of the sonic energy that flows through the EP. This release is their first original output as 12 Stories and paves the way for much more to come including releases on VIVa and Leftroom. Originally from South Shields, Mark Jenkyns has enjoyed a series of well received releases on Hot Creations, Hot Waves, Crosstown Rebels and Dogmatik. Christopher Sylvester under his Inxec alias has released on a wealth of labels including Contexterior, Last Night on Earth, Leftroom, Get Physical, Culprit and Crosstown Rebels. Mannheim natives Bunte Bummler aka Fabian Winkels and Manuel Vobis met 12 years ago in the graffiti scene, although several years would pass before they joined together to produce and DJ. Releases have appeared on the likes of Hot Trax, Recovery Tech, Deep Tech Records, Viva Music, Leone, Defected and Cecile.

Akkord return with their first original music since June 2014’s ‘HTH020’ EP. ‘Obelisk’ is a study in rhythm and frequencies, suspended in space. On the minimalistic ‘Monolith’, a single element is moulded into a 3-dimensional sound sculpture, an aural illusion of a lead weight that floats away into the ether. In contrast, ‘Megalith’ has a pulsing gravity, drawing in laser-guided blasts of bass, broadsides of pitched-down jungle, and echoes of distant birdsong and telecommunications as it journeys through the static of space.

(Insane Black Man)) is a lost warrior of sonic truth. We first uncovered his music through his own Mathematics Records, where we were shocked to find a unique permutation of the Chicago Jack gene. We came to find out that Jamal was educated in the biz by Adonis and Steve Poindexter, and the last of the line of producers directly inspired by two pillars of influence: Ron Hardy at the Muzic Box and the club Medusa's. This makes him uniquely qualified to write a new chapter of Chicago's history. Digging through shoe boxes of cassettes, video tapes, and mini discs, we have collected the secret tapes of one Insane Black Man. This is an archive of the impetus of his genius, containing perhaps the holy grail of all Jamal Moss tunes "The Land of Rape and Honey" and "Tribal Retribution". Artists on labels like LIES are still searching for these originals. We have taken them from their dusty and damaged condition and painfully & meticulously restored them, using the mastering labs of Neel's Enisslab Studio in Rome, and for the few that even he couldn't do, we had Carl at TruTone finish the restoration. Now we can present these fragile raw and pure visions with the greatest level of quality. Finally the full impact of these ideas can be felt. Jamal describes his music as "post industrial angst in an urban environment." His first experience at the Muzic Box was standing outside the warehouse space on 326 Lower Michigan Ave just watching people come outside to catch air, fascinated by the energy he was experiencing. At a later location he was finally able to get in and describes the experience as "overstimulating, I never saw anything like that, you could see the heat, it was like a sauna of raw sweat." Later, he would spend much of his formative years at Medusa's experiencing the city's more alternative culture. Many people may find this surprising, going from the Muzic Box to Medusa's, from the roots of House Music (and Techno) to the home of the Industrial sound that perhaps Wax Trax best represents. But that kind of stereotypical thinking doesn't allow for the truth of what actually happens, people cross boundaries, experience other scenes and cultures, absorb them and add to them. No one should be prescribed a set of interests because of where they are from or what race they are born. Jamal reminds me that Duane Buford, creator of the first record on Dance Mania and co-writer with Jesse Saunders and sometimes Vince Lawrence of such early house songs as "Funk-U-Up" (Jes'say 1984) and Le' Noiz's horror house bad trip jam "I'm Scared" (Trax 1985), was also a member of the Revolting Cocks and Ministry. Before Mathematics took off, Jamal was in talks with 4AD to make an industrial record for the label. These towers of influence collide easily in the mind of the Insane Black Man. Why must we call him insane? That may be society's futile view, which would prefer to put everyone in easy boxes, whereas we would be more likely to call him a visionary.

After a first EP from BNJMN, new Creme Organization label off shoot Jericho now serves up a second release, this time from NOFACE. This is a moniker of Mella Dee, a producer who in the last few years has released rough house tracks on labels like Shabby Doll, Omena and Manucci's Misstress. Here he offers three new pieces that show a passion for high energy, lo-fi tracks with inventive grooves. 'Saturate' is littered with old school signifiers but is essential a brutal, high power techno banger with immovable kick drums, slithering percussive patterns and fiery vocal ad libs that imbue the track with a sense of afro-futurism. 'Polar' is a similarly physical track with massive, monstrous kicks, reverberating synth lines and a barreling sense of groove that washes over you like a braking wave. Finally, 'Warrior Charge' is another physical and functional cut with robust drums, oversized hi hats and woodpecker like hook that demands you stomp and head bang from start to finish.

Adam X is back with his third album release under his industrial guise, ADMX-71. Following releases with the legendary label Hands and his own imprint, Sonic Groove Experiments, Adam paired up with L.I.E.S Records in 2014 for Redacted Files, a 12" single of slowed-down and tense EBM wizardry. Adam returns to the L.I.E.S. front with Coherent Abstractions, a brand new album of singular experiments that pull from every corner of electronic music's landscape into a comprehensive and propulsive full-length. Coherent Abstractions pulsates with fractured rhythms, vacillating melodies and mesmerizing compositions that showcase Adam's impressive history working in all aspects of the underbelly of electronic music. Noise and industrial elements seep into the album's 11 songs, churning the cold and abrasive into feverish new territory. Though Coherent Abstractions operates primarily in sounds of solitude, guest vocalist Janina joins "Bound and Broken" for a rare vocal collaboration on an ADMX-71 track. We also hear a frantic vocal performance from the producer on Nearing Obliteration which is undoubtedly the apex of the album. Throughout the album the music sweeps from breakbeat noir, anxious electronic dub to reflective industrial modes making Coherent Abstractions an engaging and varied listen, updating a late 80's EBM tone into modern sound design environments, while pushing a reverence for the past and heading into the deep unknown of the future. For those unfamiliar with Adam's deeply rooted history in the New York underground, he and his brother, Frankie Bones, pioneered techno in a post-disco, pre-Guiliani, New York City through the late-eighties and onwards past the nineties producing countless records under various guises and finally opening their own shop and record label, Sonic Groove. At the same time they began throwing renegade parties, known as STORM RAVE throughout the 5 boroughs. which was, until this time unheard of in such a major U.S. metropolis and opened the door for what was to come.

Vernon Felicity is also known as Conforce and Boris Bunnik, the tireless Dutch producer who marries analog and digital sounds together into otherworldy sound tracks. Now he is back on MOS once more after a new Conforce album on Delsin, and again he impresses with his unique ear for detail and ability to craft intricate sonic worlds. The label's excellent 23rd EP kicks off with 'Fake Profile', an icy bit of deep techno with a sprawling 303 acid line and typically deep and soulful pads in the background. Dance floor ready but also super heady, it is rich in detail but full of groove. 'Induce' is a more broken beat pattern with lumpy 909 drums, lazy open hi hats and gloopy bass. Sombre, downbeat chords add real emotional resonance to this mid tempo house cut as it slowly trudges though the cosmos. The flip finds 'Dropping Faces' get all manic and out of control, with whirring machines, wild drum programming and plenty of angst percussion. Subtle cow bells and distortion add texture and scale and it is the angriest cut here. Lastly, 'Running Late' rounds out an expertly varied EP with lush synth drones that slowly uplift you as the drums and percussion do their slick work down below. Once again, Vernon Felicity proves he can make every style of electronic music, and does so with real personality.

We are very glad to welcome Mr. Lewis Fautzi to our team of producers. After having been part of our booking roster for a year, now it's time for this promising Portuguese producer to get physical on vinyl. Blood EP comprises two original tracks plus remixes by our very own duo Exium and our man Kwartz. Four slices of futuristic, spacey, hypnotic techno, starting with 'Blood'. All the elements of this track are present from the beginning: synthetic bleeps, profound sub bass frequencies and percussive elements that come in and out of the arrangement subtly. Less than five minutes of mental therapy, and also a fabulous mixing tool. Exium reinforces 'Blood', darkening the bleeps and modifying them, adding a fatter kick and a more dynamic arrangement.
On the B side, 'Skin' keeps the continuous sequences and a strong kick drum as a starting point, slowly adding hats and subtle drones that grow until taking more and more sonic frequencies. Hard and mental at the same time, it will explore the hidden territories of your mind, if played on the proper sound system. Kwartz takes the obsessive elements of the original, filtering them to his own taste and giving more space to the bleeps, while putting the drones aside. A great start in our label for this excellent studio wizard whose work has been previously released on labels like Soma Quality Recordings or Figure.

Shift LTD's second instalment of their 'Basement Traxx' VA series, a solid 4-track complation from label heads DNArt and Gianluca Marcelli and their guests Petr Serkin and Lady Blacktronika. After having released great music from the likes of Enrico Mantini and @Jordan Fields, Shift LTD is back with its fifth release, a Various Artists from some of the label's very own DNArt & Gianluca Marcelli. We start with DNArt dj's 'Rubbers (Bassmental Mix)', a classic 90's house track characterised by dreamy pads, a warm baseline and a looped male vocal cut that sits in the background and gives that extra groove to the track. Next up on the A-Side, the Russian producer Petr Serkin brings the energy ups with 'Mayak', a straight-up 4/4 floor filler for the early hours. Saturated crispy percussion, a xylophone-like synth and the bubbling bass-line are what make the difference in the track. If I had to choose a closing track for a festival I'd definitely keep this one in mind!
On the other side we have the label owner Gianluca Marcelli with 'Grab It'. The Florence-based producer delivers a deep cut full of swinged percussions and dusty sampled synth lines. On B2 we have Akua Grant aka 'The First Lady of Deep House' aka Lady Blacktronika. Her track is entitled 'Changing Your Love', a smooth deep journey with a female vocal cut saying 'She Changed Your Love', moody pads and hypnotic percussions.

Keeping up the urgent pace set by the Strength In Numbers collection, Thema now turns to a modern master of the JakBeat, D’Marc Cantu. Hailing from Ann Arbor on the fringes of Detroit, Cantu has worked for more than a decade developing a sound that carries the torch from the box jam originators of techno and house music. His first appearances were alongside the mighty Tadd Mullinix (better known as James T. Cotton) with their 2 AM/FM project, before bringing Traxx into the fold for the X2 venture. As a solo artist Cantu has shored up on labels as highly regarded as Crème Organization, M>O>S, Nation and Desire, bringing a rich, full-bodied sound laden with powerful synth hooks, crafty drum programming and a live, jammed-out delivery that overflows with imagination. More abstract, forward thinking house music courtesy of Transatlantyk. 'Mondo Hehe' is the fifth EP in a growing catalogue of the label and is one of its most adventurous offerings yet. Lutto Lento (real name Lubomir Grzelak) is an experimental musician from Warsaw, Poland, who specialises in dark, spooky, uneasy music that's hard to categorise. Apart from running two experimental cassette only labels (Sangoplasmo and DUNNO Recordings), Lutto Lento records music for contemporary theatre and forward thinking European labels like FTD and Where To Now? He is equally inspired by avant-garde and surreal sounds from the bygone eras as well as raw house and techno music of today. His music tends to absorb the listener into a parallel, imaginary world, where sounds of a lamenting cry of a trumpet (B2) and a voice counting numbers on top of the rolling exotica style bongos (A2) are as important as jacking Chicago house drums (B1) and energetic basslines (A3). From the jumping beats of the title track, to the late night deep roller 'Casino', the 'Mondo Hehe EP' is a superb collection of non-generic House music that sounds as good at a club, as it does at home.
