A few doors from Hardwax, Luciano's studio: on any given afternoon (...) , half a dozen people might roll by, from the Exercise One guys in the studio next door to likeminded Berliners to whoever might be in town for a gig. Some people need to lock themselves away in a sealed bunker, but Luciano's place isn't like that: as I wrote in another story, it feels more like a salon. And with the speakers buzzing, the machines fired hot, and the hour growing fuzzier with each spliff, sometimes it can be quite an alchemical combination, the stuff of everyday life being spun into gold circuitry and filigreed beats.These two tracks are a lot like that. They're the work of Luciano and Thomas Melchior, a longtime Playhouse and Perlon artist and wry-smiled philosopher who doubtless needs no introduction. (...) these two tracks are 25 minutes of the purest wordless communication, like two SCUBA divers trading hand signals 10 meters down, or a locked gaze on the dance floor. You can hear bits of each individual in the mix-Melchior's characteristic skip and swing and his dexterity with vocal samples, Luciano's gliding polyrhythms and soft, seamless ruptures-but here their signatures blur into a fluid scrawl all its own. Perlon welcomes the new year with cat# 53 by Pantytec. Pantytec is the project of Sammy Dee and Zip, founded just shortly after the labels birth some years ago... "Maybe Moriomelo" is the first solo-release after their debut full lenght album "Pony Slaystation" and the affiliated remix -12", that featured remixes by Dan Bell, Soul Capsule, Isolée and Copacabannark, back in 2002. In between Sammy and Zip buildt their reputation as the perfect live-show for the early morning hours and worked on remixes for artists like Robert Hood or Matthew Dear, to name a few. The A-side of the present 12", "Maybe", spotlights the pros and cons of non-sober trumpet playing, while the flipside introduces us to a more sophisticated place, entitled "Moriomelo". So please 'buckle up', because this is just a tiny pretaste of Pantytec's second full length album, to be expected in 2007.

John Tejada is back on Poker Flat and we are happy to serve this exquisite new single on Steve Bug’s imprint to you. After having released some amazing tracks on his own label „Palette Recordings“ and the enormous success of „Sweat (on The Walls)“ way back in November 2004, John now returns to Poker Flat with two slammin’ new tracks. „Big City Music“ has this very special hip-shaking beat construct. The track just starts with one hihat, one short shaker, dry claps paired with two simple lead sounds. One of them repeating itself until the end and one to be morphed up and down, increasing and decreasing all the time. An exciting journey through changing tone lengths and different faces of at least one melody. On the flip side you find „Asanebo“, another unique smasher. Again this funky groove, but the sound surrounding comes a bit more spheric and mystic. An excellent track to loose yourself on the floor.

2 tracker (plus some birds singing as the wind speed is picking up) from Zurich based producer Andre Rozzo. Titled 'Storm Warning', we are wondering: what is he referring to? Probably not the wheather! Well, as an alert observer, a critical mind and contrarian, he may be a bit worried about the course mankind is taking. This is speculation though, he wont tell us. Turning to the music, the a side mix features a swiss-israeli cooperation involving DJ Rollo from Jerusalem (the similarity of the names Rollo and Rozzo is pure coincidence). The track is built around live percussion and a chord sound that reminds us of eighties acid house and early nineties rave stabs. It is not sampled, we hear, but made with the latest version of Reaktor. Old school yet modern, this track should turn out to be a real stomper. The shelter mix on the flip takes us to a safe place, where we can let our minds be taken away by warm bass sounds, distant atmospheric textures and a mesmerising groove. Simple and effective, stripped down to its bare essentials, this mix conveys depth found only rarely these days. Watch out for a storm warning in a club near you soon.

ADR IS BACK ! Claudio Alvarez builds a mysterious mood full of atmospheric pressure and analog rhythms. Gathering itself in the middle is the synth hook that snaps together the groove with the pushing bass. A set highlight for sure. Abe gives it the old in and out treatment, Funking up the acid grooves and generally thickening the mix. Hypnotic beats build around ClaudioÆs synth stabs and Abe lifts it off the ground with his signature production tricks and acid effects.

With Kelley Polar's masterful debut "Love Songs of The Hanging Gardens" still blowing minds worldwide after its release in November of last year, Environ proudly presents the second (and FINAL) limited-edition vinyl sampler from the album. Polar has carefully crafted modern, beautiful and personal songs from and for the heart and mind - a perfect amalgam of elegant pop songwriting, studio trickery and real, honest performance. Adding further depth to the aural experience, Morgan Geist (Metro Area, Unclassics) has produced and mixed the songs with Polar. With the album CD-only and the first volume of the album sampler sold out the day it was released, vinyl enthusiasts and DJs should hop on this second 12" super quick! DJs have been begging for these tracks on vinyl and Environ is happy to oblige. On the A-side, a special, extended Long Version of the album stormer "Here In The Night" kicks things off in style - this is an exclusive version for this 12" release and is not included on the album! Next is the cosmic party jam "The Rooms In My House Have Many Parties." The B-side contains the Prelude-boogie-meets-Beach-Boys-vox "Ashamed of Myself" as well as the romantic, melancholy masterpiece titled "In Time." A world-renowned classical violist, Polar defied the player piano conformism typical of his classmates at Julliard Music School early on. A musical free-thinker along the lines of Arthur Russell, Polar was always creatively restless, first leading a 40-piece live disco orchestra in Ohio and later scoring film in NYC. Before long, he became the power behind the Kelley Polar Quartet, providing signature live string arrangements for the innovative Metro Area project and releasing several sizzling-hot 12" records on Environ. All along, Polar had a penchant for the highest ideals of innovative pop and dance music from all eras, and the culmination of this passion can be heard on "Love Songs of the Hanging Gardens," with influences ranging from Brahms to The Beach Boys, space disco to early Stevie Wonder, with gentle flutters of Gil Scott-Heron and Kraftwerk, Bedouin singing and Ultravox...
