STEFAN GOLDMANN - In Aggregate
2
STEFAN GOLDMANN - Carob
Tracklist:
A. In Aggregate
B. Carob
about:
One of techno's most joyous experimentators delivers two intriguing uptempo tracks. Instead of hitting
hard and heavy 'In Aggregate' and 'Carob' float delicately, with explosive detail blooming freely and
high above what feels rather like a bass-ladden undercurrent than a persistent kick drum foundation.
Both tracks expand on Stefan Goldmann's extensive polyrhythmic research and integrate tonal and
metric functions within the same units of sound. Somewhat radically, the central sound of 'Carob' is all
in one: beat, bassline and single-note melody. By contrast, 'In Aggregate' unfolds lush layers of
exuberant percussion, countered by rounded drops of bass and an occasional vocal snippet
ricocheting off of claustrophobia-inducing walls of glass.
As future-forward as they are organic, these offerings come with appropriately idiosyncratic artwork by
Jorinde Voigt. Printed on inside-out heavy paper cover + a printed inner sleeve.

Info:
KUF create emotion-laden dialogues across layers of time and dimensions of sound. With three
albums the Berlin trio pioneered an astonishing inversion of the typical electronic band set up, by
pairing a plethora of disembodied, sampled voices with acoustic real-time interaction on bass, drums
and keys.
'Yield', their fourth album, presents a shift in focus. Less weight on the vocal core – lots of new
integrations of sampling, synthesis and band action in different constellations. This diversification of
sources pulls the conceptual stops out and yields a dazzling array of magical instrumentalism. Bold.
Catchy. Flourishing.
From 'Gold' to 'Universe', KUF solidified an irresistible marriage of android vocal cords and highly
energetic beats. Their third album 'Re:Re:Re' applied the concept to remix/cover version hybrids of
classics from Macro's stellar back catalog, tackling originals by the likes of rRoxymore, KiNK, Patrick
Cowley, Santiago Salazar and Stefan Goldmann. With proof that the concept could be applied with
supremely gratifying results to such diverse contexts, time was ripe to go back to the drawing board
and reimagine the perimeter.
Now 'Yield' breathes the freedom of playful reassembly of the main ingredients. A sampler's cut-up
capabilities triggered by frisky fingers. Persistent bass. Adamant drums. Rough soul, intertwined by
improvised outbursts and shaped with the aesthetics of raw MPC-based chunky techno. Twelve slices
of hyper-integrated realtime magic.

The Album:
Proprietary rhythm: Vector Rituals sees techno polymath Stefan Goldmann constructing polymetric rites of percussion. Synthesized from the ground up, timbral characteristics, metric properties, dynamic
expression and microrhythmic phrasing are shaped by the interactions of layered control voltage functions. The result is an assembly of abstract dances ranging from the intricate to the powerful.
Near-humanoid behaviour emerges from liquid patterns, laid out and brought to life by the freewheeling encounter of modular waveforms and snappy envelopes. Sounds evoke metallic textures
– ringing, scraping – and group into virtual shapes from tiny spikes to vast surfaces.
Some of the parametric relationships employed are as loose as to imply chance drifts. Others lock in with strict regularity as found in the 13 vs. 17 polymeter pattern of opening track 'Nayba'. By contrast,
in the strictly repetitive yet highly asymmetrical sequence of 'Yukagir' each metric step has its own uniquely irregular duration. The center piece of this collection is 'Ayon' with multiple autonomous and
highly agile timelines. Its constituent layers break away in radial fashion and fall back together at widely spaced points of congregation.
All compositions herein present powerful proof of the unlimited capacity of electronic music to yield new principles of organisation and to solidify their expression into clear-cut gestalt.
The Record:
Vector Rituals comes on 180g vinyl with artwork by highly acclaimed visual artist Jorinde Voigt, printed onto the inside-out cover sleeve and continued on the inner jacket.

Info:
Electronic / acoustic wonder band KUF deliver a special surprise for their third album: eleven sizzling hot takes on tracks drawn from the Macro label's stellar catalog, as originally crafted by some of today's most respected artists in electronic music. KiNK, Patrick Cowley, Peter Kruder (of K&D), Stefan Goldmann, rRoxymore and more get the treatment. With a nod to the label's previous highly original compilations and mixes from the Macrospective and Vinylism series, Re:Re:Re captures more new ground.
KUF's previous albums presented an astonishing inversion of the typical extended electronic set up, in that they paired a plethora of disembodied, sampled voices with acoustic real time interaction on bass, drums and keys. Re:Re:Re shifts the focus of sampling altogether to scanning entire tracks and compositions which are then reimagined with the band's singular approach. Neither just remixes, nor faithful reproductions, KUF engage in careful sound archaeology. From re-programming key sounds to holistic granular deconstructions, the originals's sound palettes are reproduced to serve as a springboard towards entirely new instalments. The resulting tracks range from intimate ballads to full power dance floor movers, spanning a highly engaging arc of sheer listening pleasure.

Turntablist and sound artist Maria Chavez turns in her first continuous full length audio work. 'Plays' is a DJ mix CD that doesn't feature any tracks. It is a remix of a work whose original doesn't feature recorded sound. It is a minimalistic yet complex electroacoustic work, literally built from scratch, bootstrapping sound out of sheer silence: creatio ex nihilio.

Info:
Turntablist and sound artist Maria Chavez turns in her first continuous full length audio work. 'Plays' is a DJ mix CD that doesn't feature any tracks. It is a remix of a work whose original doesn't feature recorded sound. It is a minimalistic yet complex electroacoustic work, literally built from scratch, bootstrapping sound out of sheer silence: creatio ex nihilio.
The story of this album starts with a record given to Cha?vez as a birthday present. It is Stefan Goldmann's 'Ghost Hemiola', a double vinyl set of empty locked grooves. The record contains no sound whatsoever other than the vinyl's own surface noise.
Cha?vez's work with records and turntables usually features a rich layer of recorded audio which is transformed, cut up and rearranged by a wide range of fearless physical manipulations. By contrast 'Ghost Hemiola' is a blank canvas, unveiling her craft in its purest form, unobstructed by any audio content other than the sounds of the medium itself.
Breaking up the medium is happening both ways here, literally as well as figuratively. Unlike with her live performances, for "Plays" Cha?vez employs digital processes extensively, zooming into minute details of sound and the artefacts of both mediums, the tangible vinyl record and disembodied digital audio. Narrowing down shards of sound to extremely short frames creates metallic timbres, reverberating quasi- spaces and percussive layers. Slowing down the tempo until sound halts at one sample of its digital representation brings forth emergent frequencies, which Cha?vez then uses to play melodies - vaguely resembling her analog technique of playing melodies by skipping a stylus back and forth across a test tone record.
This thorough investigation of the unobstructed vinyl medium with digital means is distilled into a one hour composition on this album. By the way - Chavez and Goldmann share the same birthdate.

The music in this album is derived from works originally commissioned for the five hour music theatre
work ALIF, as premiered at Berlin’s MaerzMusik Festival of 2016. Revised from 2017 to 2019 for the
album format, the works herein are an excellent representation of Stefan Goldmann’s ongoing
investigation of the wider potentials of techno.
Tracklist:
Tracks: 1. Broca – 2. Zahir – 3. Covert Bias – 4. Tacit Script – 5. Scaling Net – 6. Turbulent Scalar –
7. Apophenia – 8. HMS Solitude
Info:
Tacit Script builds its own network of interdependent grids in which sound objects move and thrive
along multiple dimensions.
All frequencies fall into custom scales, developed individually for each track and generated by bending
the standard chromatic system. Most electronically produced music operates with a 1V per octave
tuning which is divided into 12 equally spaced steps, equivalent to the piano keyboard. Stefan
Goldmann skews or stretches this variable in order to achieve different microtonal spacings, wider or
narrower, thus eliminating the octave – commonly a fixture in most music. Intervals might thus be at 75
or 110 or 138% of their ‘regular’ ratio. Melodic objects then traverse these unfamiliar spectral
structures, singing electric songs with alien voices.
Divergent metric layers drift apart, only to be pulled back together at critical points. Clearly pulsed
elements hammer out persistent patterns, yet complex polymetric friction persists over long stretches
of time. Altern-ating continuous sweeps and abrupt shifts through wavetables define the highly
synthetic, yet organically developing timbres of Tacit Script. Relentless repetition is the force which
yields coherent composite shapes in this setting. The results are emphatically in the realm of techno –
what is being pushed forward are the interrelations of its constituent layers.

Info Text:
An Ardent Heart is a focused techno mini album that brings forward Stefan Goldmann's most dancefloor-centered material in a decade. The tracks push and pull relentlessly. Despite their linear appeal, there is an intricately balanced interplay between the heavy-handed kicks, the bouncy bass accents and the sizzling, yet clear-cut details whipped up by the rallying drums.
The peculiar, seemingly “vocalised” mode of synthesis is maybe the most unifying sonic characteristic of the six tracks and one coda. Formant shaping, vowel filters and airstream perturbations let a wide range of sounding elements speak in the tongues of a cybernetic Babylon. Layered polymetric patterns perforate the aural plane with alien scripts. Clearly structured, yet opaque messages that seem to have traveled for aeons emanate from the red-hot circuitry. They spill into a network of delays, channeled down into labyrinthine corridors, enveloped in electrostatic noise.
Most tracks build on chance patterns evoked with hardware sequencers and freeform modulation sources. The resulting synthetic systems are as cohesive as they exhibit vast internal variation and range. Thus balancing simplicity and complexity right in the middle, the results are just as immediately gripping as they can feed sustained attention. A wide palette of distortion and overtones mark the contours of individual elements that seem to have near-physical qualities – as if there were metallic strings, thick membranes, a resonating sphere, all struck by electric mallets, caused to vibrate by mechanical bows and sung by silicone lips.

KUF create emotion-laden dialogues across layers of time and dimensions of sound. Voices recorded in private are chopped up and brought out center-stage to sing with beats hammered out right here and now. Glowing synths push forward. Basslines rise to grab the melodic role of a track while a vowel is truncated and locked into a grid, driving the rhythm. Voices move within the frame of a sample, performed by hands pushing keys, guided by the ear, immersed in a trio session's deep flow… A vortex of quirky hands, responsive ears and glowing circuits.
Since Thomas A. Edison first recorded the human voice in 1877, the recording arts have changed music forever. Musicians have explored the endless possibilities of bouncing their input onto layers of tape, off the walls of an echo chamber or the circuitry of electronic helpers - technology that modulates, spatializes, shifts, divides or multiplies the work of human hands and mouths. An era of sampling offered a cubistic analysis of the recorded past and DJs took dancers onto intricately fractured time travels. This is the historic foundation that KUF keep probing. Just like the sampler and the DJ before them, they found new ways to re-allocate where machine and man stand when making music together. Most importantly, they turn the resulting friction into sparkling bursts of energy.
'Universe' digs deeper into the android vocal chords. The album offers sweeping melodies, different beats and persistent bass. Immerse in the intimacy of the voices, probably recorded in trains, backstage areas and at late night private parties during Berlin Lichtenberg warehouse rehearsals. By striking the keys, KUF squeeze out and serve up all the soul accumulated in those savory phonetic shreds. Wood striking metal, thick bass strings moving air, oscillators humming eagerly. Physical and electrical, alive and stunningly beautiful - after a year well spent in smoky clubs, on festival stages and in extensive nocturnal sessions, KUF deliver chapter two of their unfolding saga

Info:
Anno Stamm is the revered 4/4 branch name of Berlin's Lars Stoewe. As Anstam he has been at the forefront of dark beat science, touring extensively with the likes of Moderat and Thom Yorke's Atoms For Peace and has appeared at festivals ranging from Mutek and CTM to Sonar and Dimensions.
'Annothek' is his second EP for Macro. The three tracks build on the same set of sound sources and offer three different views at their glowing core. Elastic basslines pierce through a bed of sweet and warm chords, surrounded by sizzling noise percussion. Definitely on the more introspective side, the three cuts offer a special emotional depth while maintaining a bit more than just enough oomph to get the action going. Late night and early morning are the possible settings. It's a declaration of tender love that comes with a gentle push towards the closest darkroom.

Info:
We've said it before: techno's vanguard can be found in the East right now. Sofia's quirky techno underground is densifying. Evolving around the Diviat Slon parties (residents: StefaK & Stefan Goldmann), the Beton nights, the indoors offspins of Artmospheric festival and unannounced appearances of KiNK under his Cyrillic guise, raw and rave-infused techno is increasingly defining the city's sound of the small hours.
Roboknob are part of this movement, and this is their debut EP. A live hardware duo, Yasen and Stanislav drop rugged, noisy machine jams around the Bulgarian capital and have been regulars at Artmospheric. The EP's tracks have been distilled from their live repertoire and mixed by Stefan Goldmann into sharply defined form with added bite. 'Dexydi' is Greek for acid - the corrosive liquid, not the music. Accordingly, its heavy-handed single-note bass attack will cut through anything. 'Spellbind' is more bouncy with frantic upward movements, distorted percussive fallout and a seasick bass foundation. 'Liulka' handles two layers of time rubbing off of each other: quirky and pushing high in the sky, against the bass drum mechanics down low. A suitable acoustic symbol for Sofia's state of techno.

A1: Please Don't Tell Me That
A2: Serious Attack
B1: She Put Me Under A Light Trance
B2: Overland Trip
Release info:
Between the vast flatlands of Western Ukraine and the Pacific shores of Vladivostok, a new quirky techno underground has been racking up hefty grid rhythms below the radar. Initially free from the weekend routines of the established club circuit, producers from Etapp Kyle to Stanislav Tolkachev have been experimenting with the possibilities of shifting grids in their post-socialist bedroom studios. The interconnecting conduit of these geographically isolated minds has often been the radio show of Nikita Zabelin, a Moscow-based DJ mining the local torrents for treasures.
Vladimir Dubyshkin is one premier example of how this culture yields wildly exciting finds. Listening to how sweepingly effective his de-centered vision of techno is, it's hard to believe that this actually is his first fully fledged vinyl release.
Hailing from Tambov, a city of 280.000 souls 460 km southeast of Moscow, Vladimir Dubyshkin is a regular of Zabelin's show and has contributed tracks to two compilations on Nina Kraviz's TRIP label - another major force in bringing great techno from the fringes of the former Soviet Union to the attention of the world.
The "For Various Reasons EP", coming in two separate installments, now shows the full picture of Dubyshkin's special talents. Highly energetic, rave-infested analog techno with de-tuned melodies rubbing against take-no-prisoners basslines. There is an intense emotional component present at all times, typically missing in Western grayscale techno. And once again, the great promise of participation of techno has been proved alive and well, with the freshest contribution coming from the least expected of places.

Release info:
Rough techno versions, derived from Stefan Goldmann's synth-heavy 'A1' film soundtrack. Five cuts remixed into the mighty 4/4 grid (mostly). Free wheeling hardware synthesis and heavy-handed beats line up for concrete-blasting impact on 'Constructor' and 'A-Drive'. The B2's 'Spikes' is a more loose affair around a scintillating analogue synth riff. Contrastingly, 'Inward Slope' features a warped beat layout and wavetable splashes, sounding like a weeping robot fighting with a cat. 'Roadside Lot' is a soothing ambient FM tech tool. That's it. On to the next fifty.

Info:
Based on the eponymous play by brothers and author/performer team Tobi and Mike Müller at Schauspielhaus Zürich, Swiss experimental documentary film A1 traverses through time and space along Switzerland’s first and most elongated highway structure. Rich in archival sources, it sheds light on the costs and benefits of rapid movement: social, migratory and ecological patterns, economic and
military designs that are mostly not immediately obvious to the casual motorist.
Stefan Goldmann’s soundtrack engages the film’s multi-layered aesthetics full on, providing a dazzling array of short compositions. Profoundly synthetic in production, this free-wheeling phantasmagoria of peculiar, yet intensely likeable miniatures branches off into all directions – from minimalistic to overflowing, calm to banging, nightmarish to soothing. The visual patina of historic documents is playfully mirrored in intense distortion and noise artifacts, bound into rhythmic units and melodies formed of ghost notes. Finding ever new ways of mining his techno background to yield surprising new forms and ideas,
Stefan Goldmann has proven his abilities in a dazzling range of projects over the past years. Works for dance, ensembles, an opera and various object-based creations made him a natural choice for the job
of finding a refreshing way of linking sound and image. On its own, the music holds up by putting the listener on a high-velocity road trip of the curious mind.

Literary all the Granny Smith apple trees grown today, from Uruguay to Hokaido, are CLONES from Mrs. Smith's original tree in Sydney. Bananas, oranges, watermelons, garlic & other fruits of daily delight are routinely replicated without any input of external ideas - i.e., they are cloned. There is no general ethical or aesthetic decision to be formed about CLONES, since you have already imbibed them ever since your first bite. Thus, you are not in a neutral or otherwise preliminary position, but already involved, kneedeep.
It may not be a coincidence that the first mammals, warm-blooded egg-layers and small marsupials, date almost exactly to the period of the first flowers, evolving some 125 million years ago. Quick-thinking, vegetable eating mammals provide a most striking example of cooperation in evolution, as their interest in plant foods led them to become well-fed. A bond has been formed. Seedless plants, like banana and oranges, have made a most remarkable dispersal strategy: season after season, human growers CLONE them. The plants are perpetuated because they taste so good.
And that's about it. Much has been said about Elektro Guzzi's aptitude in transcending their instrumental sources towards techno of unlikely beauty, pristine consistency and razor-sharp definition. It tastes good, and thus they have decided to CLONE themselves. Elektro Guzzi plow through their own fertile ground of ideas and sprout structures, textures and gestures into a dizzying array of new offerings. Yet the tunnel vision of the singular point of origin of all tracks makes it smack even more. Because there's never too much of a great thing.

Release info:
Macro has been the home for the albums of some of electronic music's most exciting live acts. So when a live band enters this context, it should better enter with a bang. KUF do just this with their album debut. The three-piece outfit with keys, bass and drums cooks up a sound that is as warm, cozy and exciting as it is utterly alien. The rhythm section hints at the great history of dirty funk and bouncing r'n'b, but the grooves are firmly of today: dance-centered, thrillingly interactive and broken up at the best possible joints.
The bewildering thing about KUF is that it is a vocal-led group that has no singer on stage at all. All vocal elements are based on self-recorded samples which keyboard whizz kid Tom Schneider melds and bends and squeezes in real time. As if it was the most natural thing to do. With no artificial synchronization in place, Valentin Link on bass and Hendrik Havekost on drums push the disembodied voices into an arena of hyperintegrated realtime magic of rough soul, intertwined by improvised outbursts and shaped with the aesthetics of raw MPC-based cut up techno.
The album's grabbing openers "Gold" and "Princess" are full-on instances of the brightly burning world of KUF, with the other eight tunes never ever letting you down. All along, the Berlin based trio take their audiences through a full range of emotions and constantly shifting dynamics. The thorough integration of this extraordinary degree of sheer diversity into a unified experience is simply astonishing. But never forget this is a live band, and that's how anything here has been developed: live, in direct interplay. Seeing is believing.

On April 27th, 2016 Friedrich Goldmann would have turned 75. Macro is celebrating the composer's anniversary with a luxury Box Set CD edition of the complete trios of 1986 - 2004 and his singular oboe quartet (2000). Two of the recordings were produced by Goldmann himself, and all feature musicians with a long-term working relationship related to and deep expertise of the composer's oeuvre such as Ingo Goritzki, Björn Lehmann, members of Ensemble Mosaik and KNM Ensemble. The CD is accompanied by a 48 page booklet, featuring extensive essays by Björn Gottstein (artistic director of Donaueschingen Music Days) and musicologist Bruno Santos, exploring Goldmann's groundbreaking aesthetics.

Macro has been the home for the albums of some of electronic music's most exciting live acts. So when you are a live band and you enter this context, you'd better enter with a bang. KUF do just this with their debut EP for the label. "Odyssee" and "Wildlife" are full-on introductions to the world of KUF, with "Staring At The Sky" being a jam-type addition which the band is killing with in their live sets. Release info:
Oh, the terror. L’estasi Dell’oro delves deeper into New York’s gritty shades of techno. Returning after
2014’s super-bold “Iscariotic Lips”, this new EP for Macro enforces his signature clashing of disparate
ends within the same, driving beat. The A side’s “Pyrrhic Mundi” is endless drama, stages after stages
towards eliminating mind/body separation. The B side holds percussive structure rubbed against edgy
metallic sound first with “Every Light Is Blue”, and then unfolds into ultimate basement club action in “Sky
Unknown”. Heavy low end maintained throughout.

A: Fossil Water B1: Nephelin´B2: De-Gauss
Release info:
Techno exists in a distorted field. What is wrong elsewhere is right here. What shouldn't work works. Awake at night and asleep by day. Rough is beautiful, slick is rotten. With Macro, things are always a bit more wrong than usual. And that's how they also end up being a bit more beautiful than usual.
Stefan Goldmann’s “Fossil Water”: Fender bass tones weave a pad, from the thumping bottom up to the silky top, congregating into intense moments of dance floor bliss. The B-side throws us in at the deep end, with the tense yet laid back workout of “Nephelin”, tipping over into the sheer techno claustrophobia of “De-Gauss.” Dark and warm like a Stockholm syndrome: feeling cozy while the horror comes upon you.

elektro guzzi - acid bonus
Tracklist: 1. Circle One / 2. Circle Two / 3. Acid Bonus
Biography:
ELEKTRO GUZZI have been called many names: man-machine, clockwork, techno organism. It is truly one like no other. By now, the 3 Austrian wizards have become the preeminent techno band. A trio of guitar, bass and drums, they play murder beats with the drive of a machine that got possession of the sonic detail only physical instruments are capable producing. The unparalleled appeal of matching sound and performance vision in real time - you see how every sound is created, right there, on the spot - have made them a primary choice for cutting edge festivals like Roskilde, Sónar (2x official programm), Mutek, Melt!, Stop Making Sense, C/O Pop, Eurosonic, Extrema, Airwaves, Sziget, Dancity, Spring Festival and a long list of others across Europe, North and Latin America and Japan. In parallel they have conquered the club circuit from Berghain to Fabric to Arma17.
The album:
Originally recorded for a Tapeworm cassette release, Austrian techno wonder Elektro Guzzi locks into two "circles" + one essential addition. Tight as ever, but this time the usual restrictions to track durations and vinyl sides are completely abandoned in favour of deep explorations of the long form. Rich on texture, all the little timbral strokes add up to a continuous push down the bass-heavy techno rabbit hole. The result is nowhere close to a loose jam, but renders a concentrated display of musical swarm logic. Intimate, thrusting, circular.

Info:
INDUSTRY sheds all personalized effort and tests how far you can get by using presets only. All sounds are factory presets of 3 obsolete 1990s Japanese workstation synths, all effects are presets, all notes are quantized and most panning is purely accidental (laid out in the preset sounds). INDUSTRY doesn't rely on successful presets, but on failed sounds of now obsolete synthesizers - industrial assumptions of where culture will go, but where it chose not to. The result is a surprisingly pleasant listening experience with effortless grooves and rich textures - and mildly demonic connotations. From smooth to kicking - a conveyor belt enjoying mood swings. As beautiful as the scheduled meeting of a PVC sheet and a thermoform mould on a workbench. 0% sound design.
What? -> Presets are pre-programmed settings of a device such as a synthesizer or an effects unit: factory stock sounds, equivalent to stock photography or preset styles and filters in apps like Instagram. Audio presets provide a library of "typical" and supposedly desirable sounds - thus enabling a consumer to bypass individual programming and get quick & easily repeatable results. Every modern instrument or software comes with presets - and people use them heavily.

Release info:
Macro has released albums by two of techno's greatest live acts, KiNK and Elektro Guzzi. It would have been a shame if the two didn't exchange their special skills on each other's killer material. And that's just what they did: KiNK remixed "Atlas" into a tranced-out, peaktime world-domination slammer of pure euphoria. Elektro Guzzi let the snares smack and the pads build up on "Vodolaz" into nirvana. Dream team double pack: nothing better to let the sun shine through the summer of 2015. Even at night.

Anno Stamm is the revered 4/4 branch name of Berlin's Lars Stoewe. As Anstam he has been a central project in the 50Weapons stable, touring extensively with Modeselektor / Moderat and Thom Yorke's Atoms For Peace. There have been only two Anno Stamm releases prior to this one, making this 4 track EP a much anticipated extension, both of Anno Stamm's tight but glowingly beloved catalogue as well as for the Macro label which has just carefully expanded its ultra-selective roster with KiNK and L'estasi Dell'oro. Anno Stamm's four contributions here are bringing a highly desired emotional depth to the cutting edge side of house music, while pushing the envelope in radical beat science simultaneously. Anstam's razor-sharp rhythms are melded into warm, bodily grooves while there's an angular harmonic layer granting for goosebumps on the dancefloor. Rich in details, twisted and straight to the point.

Tracklist: 1. Rough Tide / 2. Acid Camouflage / 3. Alaska Flip / 4. Trojan Robot / 5. Undulata / 6. Atlas / 7. Threshold People / 8. The Grist
Live "techno-tanzband" trio Elektro Guzzi are set to release their new studio album 'Observatory' via Berlin based record label Macro. From their 2010 s/t debut album ("hauntingly beautiful" - Resident Advisor) and 2011 follow up 'Parquet' ("hypnotic, near kosmische reverberations" - Clash) Elektro Guzzi have taken their man-machine live show of bass, guitar, drums around the world, from landmark clubs like Fabric and Berghain to major festivals Roskilde, Sónar and Mutek.
With 'Observatory', Bernhard Hammer, Jakob Schneidewind and Bernhard Breuer shift everything anyone could expect from a live band. Tellingly, instrument credits have been wiped off the record sleeve. Still a string and a drum skin at the source, the sound emanating from the speakers seems to have travelled light years. Utterly alien, 'Observatory' unfolds into a paradigm for both the performance of music and the music performed.
Despite advances in software, ironically it is this live band that initiates a redesign of how techno could leap into the future. There is nothing retro about it. No citations of historic moments. The album resembles a party on the edge of the solar system, with scraps of distant sound memories - a shocking abandonment of anything an instrument was supposed to do. The recordings' warmth is at a stark contrast to the music's Skynet thrust: a time capsule of techno projected into the dark unknown. Metallic and human at the same time, a love cry miles from home...

Biography:
#3 Live Act of 2013 at Resident Advisor, one of the most in demand remixers around, a total of 156 gigs in 2013, releases for Rush Hour, Ovum, Macro; booked out months in advance from Berghain to Ibiza to the main electronic festivals ... KiNK:
Arguably the world of dance music has not witnessed anyone else rising so clearly from bottom to top just by the centrifugal force of sheer talent. Being based in Sofia, Bulgaria, without a support network, a campaign or any media hype, his music alone - live and in the studio - created a momentum whose end we have yet to see.
Lenin said: "Communism is Soviet power + electrification of the whole country." Hardly did Lenin suspect what an inspired take on these words could do: post-socialist techno. A child of 80's late socialism, KiNK grew up on the home computers Bulgaria's IT scientists had created by backwards-engineering Western technology. Fueled by nuclear energy on the edge of desaster, a whole generation of kids was trained to hack. Dance music gradually dripping in through early dial-up internet connections, the acoustic fingerprints of distant parties put Eastern producers from KiNK to Nina Kraviz to Vakula under a spell.
Yet KiNK spent years of backwards-engineering the sounds of Detroit, Chicago and early Warp. Tweaking whatever software was available, he learned all the sideways possibilities of hacking into the sonics of analog classics with the beauty of digital degradation: alias noise, bit crush, noisy FFT grains - his one-of-a-kind results electrified dance floors all over the world ever since.
Now, all the elements of KiNK's live sets have been bundled like a laser beam in his debut album: "Under Destruction" was manufactured in the concrete tower blocks of Sofia. The album's core has been recorded in dozens of analog jam sessions - capturing the moment of a sparking imagination just like KiNK's live sets, but then transformed in deep data penetration. The rough and the refined united in disturbing balance, from distorted tenderness up to club bangers such as "Sintezator" and "Melodia". A beauty in decay, just like Sofia's concrete slab housings - synths rising from the ashes. This album tells the story of KiNK's sound - the one that sparks the love everywhere he visits.

Tracklist: A1: Iscariotic Lips A2: Reverse & Repair (Stefan Goldmann Edit) B1: Reverse & Repair (original) B2: Iscariotic Lips (acapella)
Written & produced by Christopher Ernst // Mixed by Stefan Goldmann
New York's L'ESTASI DELL'ORO has become quite a phenomenon on the vinyl underground through his releases for Voodoo Down & his own Flaneur Audio imprint. The principles of what exactly makes his tracks pretty irresistible are brought to ultimate focus in ISCARIOTIC LIPS / REVERSE & REPAIR: multiple layers of noisy bits, shuffling time signatures around until you lose all orientation. 5 over 4 over 3 bend your mind in several directions all at once. Ultimately, all you know is just a groove - and what a groove! Then again, Crystal Boyd's sect-type, ultra-slowed voice and ‘Reverse &Repair’s numbing string loops leave no doubt: you're looking at the pleasures of apocalypse. For good reason L'ESTASI DELL'ORO is the first new artist to enter the Macro roster since Elektro Guzzi's legendary 2010 debut. This 4 tracker was mixed by Stefan Goldmann who clearly knows how to sculpt intricate distortion mischief while maintaining a slamming drum kit. Enter an acapella of ‘Iscariotic Lips’ and a hefty "beats only" SG edit of ‘Reverse & Repair’ and there's what 2014 can do for you.

Tracklist: A1: Minute Blaze A2: Peak Phosphorus B1: Beautiful Loot B2: Fat Tails
A BEAT and a BASSLINE: If you have a sweet tooth for what makes the world of dance music go round, Stefan Goldmann nails it "four times in 4x4" for you. From the *monster bass* of 'Minute Blaze' to the edgy grind of 'Fat Tails'; from the dark chocolate shavings of 'Beautiful Loot' to the soothing sparkle of 'Peak Phosphorus': SIGNS TAKEN FOR WONDERS is a magical mystery trip into the space between a kickdrum and a sawtooth bass, weeping tears of joy together at the lovesong of a filter. This does to dancefloors what Jules Verne does to kids' imaginations: wide awake all night by the thrill of wonders. There's a secret ingredient, hidden in between all four. Your body will know. Sparkle sparkle...

ALBUM INFO: When Messiaen set out to transcribe birds' songs as models for his compositions, he couldn't have predicted that by now wild birds would have started to learn mobile phone ringtone patterns. For "A System of Objects", RAUDIVE aka OLIVER HO maps an obliquely constructed world in which you lose all certainty of what is nature and what is design. Raudive celebrates dance and auditory scenes as rituals, employing our surroundings as sources of ahistorical "found sound" - primitive technologies used to reach magickal states. A drum machine and a wooden stick, a sawtooth-shaped electric current and a split rock all turn into empirical objects of the same class, without a definite past or a predictable impact. We have become dependent on technology we don't grasp beyond its display surface. Lost on reason, we are thrown back on the ritual to reveal the hidden relations of what surrounds us: the club as emblematic center of the emancipated individual, longing to bond with equals, again.
BIOGRAPHY: Originally being one of the original British techno innovators in the 1990s, after 2006 Oliver Ho shifted gear with his Raudive alias towards slower, hypnotically bouncing rhythms. Various shades of darkness and acoustic / metallic found sound sources shape the Raudive aesthetic. His records have appeared on labels such as Cocoon, Running Back, Pokerflat, Thema and on his own Wires imprint. "ASoO" is his 2nd album after 2010's "Chamber Music" on Macro.
The 20 page CD booklet contains images from the series "Masks" by Jens Ullrich.

"Live At Honen-In Temple" is a document of a one-off site-specific performance in one of the most impressive settings a live electronic concert could possibly ever have. Featuring a wealth of new and unreleased material, Stefan Goldmann has custom-tailored a sound world as clearly detailed as the hidden gardens of Honen-In. Microtonal drifts, metallic grids and delicate turns merge into a gleaming monolithic pull.
Embedded in the slopes of the Eastern hills of Kyoto, Japan, the Honen-In Temple marks the boundary between city and forest. By day, only its outer gardens are accessible. For this intimate concert, Honen-In opened its doors to a handful of listeners, exposing its intricate inner halls and gardens.
Specifically selected and arranged for this night and site, Stefan Goldmann's music goes through an hour of transformations. The side walls of the main hall removed, electronics unobstructedly merged into the surrounding acoustic environment, while daylight faded into the dark of night.
This concert performance was part of the Villa Kamogawa artist residency by Stefan Goldmann in Kyoto, Japan.

A: Ruins
B: Visitor
Raudive a.k.a. Oliver Ho heads home with two guilty dancefloor pleasures. Gritty surface, smoove bottom. For those damp, dimly lit cellar clubs: low ceilings, fog, smoke and all that. "Ruins" runs a relentless groove against angular guitar overtones, blowing out the valves of its amplifier. Metal sheets, rusty strings, sweaty bodies. "Visitor" is built on a naughty percussion sequence and is elevated by a morphed girl's inquiring voice straight out of a 1984 Shibuya version of Blade Runner. Kinky. Essential 2013.

Tracklist:
Record 1 (single sided): 66 empty locked grooves
Record 2 (single sided): 66 empty locked grooves
Digitalization liberated content from its physical carrier. Now, "Ghost Hemiola" liberates the physical carrier from its content. It is a double vinyl set of empty locked grooves that contains nothing but its very own surface noise - and physical structure. It is a sculptural revision of Stefan Goldmann's earlier locked groove-based double vinyl "The Grand Hemiola", but it also serves as a genuine hauntological vinyl surface noise tool kit, out on its own. Pulling a knife or other tool to its grooves allows for cutting your literally uniquely own beats directly into the record. A total of 132 empty grooves allows for as many individual patterns to be created (note that even any contact with the needle or the accumulation of dust change the surface noise of the groove). All loops together allow for thousands of layered combinations (4356 to be exact), which allow for further variations by changing rotation speeds with the continuous pitch controls of a set of turntables (face eternity here). Whatever had been masked by audio before is now made audible here.
Blurb: Forms without life / The mussel has left the shell / If this is the carrier, where did the content go? / Another "Contour work" / Post digital.

Tracklist: A1: Cashmere A2: Crack Fox B: Cashmere (Reverse Mix)
If the "Parquet" album saw them delivering a unified vision of dancefloor purity to massive acclaim, "Cashmere" now takes ELEKTRO GUZZI's signature man-machine sound up a notch. It is moving their rock-solid base towards ecstatic moments of techno bliss. In the title track layers of circling angular chords cause goose bumps, while a warmly pulsating foundation of bass and drums locks in the groove. The "Reverse Mix" does exactly what it says: reversing the arrangement and re-building the track back to front. In "Crack Fox" it is then the interaction of shifted bass line and countering melodic scraps that pushes the whole thing forward. All set off against ultra-steady drumworks, only swelling in lengthy waves towards eerie peaks, the result is sheer madness. Essential material from the band that reinvented "live techno."

The new album by techno's most restlessly inventive artist: Pitch bending shaped 17:50's weirdly alien, yet extremely catchy melodies and bass lines - rough analog drums and distortion hardware bring new sonic pleasures to innovative dance floors. Anti slickness. Pro pitch bend.
A world out of tune. De-tuning notes has been central to house and techno since the early days in Chicago. Stefan Goldmann's "17:50" is where this bitter-sweet sound turns systematic: the whole Western harmonic standard is thrown overboard and replaced by pitch systems that yield beautifully alien yet incredibly catchy melodies, bass lines and chords. It is probably the first new melodic concept to enter house music since the days of acid.
In a field of music whose innovations seemed to have come to an end, pitch bending opens up radically fresh possibilities. Tones never stand still but are bent and re-tuned for maximum expression. As a result even the most simple melodies sound exotically new and intriguing.
Warm synths, analog drum machines and loads of dirty distortion shape the album's sound. "17:50" is as much about pitch going crazy as about celebrating a rough, vivid hardware sound. Bend the pitch and the mind will follow.
Pitch bending in one sentence: "If you don't add something to a note, it dies." (Miles Davis)

The way his music takes from his studio to the club is traced with rare insights into the premises of Berlin electronic music institutions such as the Hard Wax record store and the D&M mastering studio. In-depth interviews shot in an unidentified scenery of derelict ruins illuminate the principles of his work.
Biography:
Stefan Goldmann develops conceptual art music that is almost entirely derived from the core features and formats of techno and house: track, remix, sample, edit and loop are stretched to their limits, revealing their essence.
He has been responsible for some of techno's most memorable tracks of recent years, including The Maze, Sleepy Hollow and Lunatic Fringe. His Macro label has been named "the world's leading avant-techno label" and his remixes have covered a range from Christian Fennesz to Igor Stravinsky. Stefan Goldmann has also been associated with Berlin's Berghain since 2005, conceiving the Elektroakustischer Salon event format, playing at the legendary Sunday afternoon sessions and writing a bi-monthly column for the club's program flyer.
Resident Advisor: "Stefan Goldmann didn't establish himself as a force in electronic music by doing things the standard way. His own productions and those found on his Macro label rarely sound like they're coming from the same universe as practically everything else on the shelves."

STEFAN GOLDMANN: PRESETS - DIGITAL SHORTCUTS TO SOUND (Bookworm TBW#02)
Author: Stefan Goldmann
Title: Presets - Digital Shortcuts To Sound
ISBN: 978-1-874104-02-5
Publisher: Bookworm, London, UK
Format: 220 pages paperback, 110mm x 171mm
Info text:
Stefan Goldmann in conversation with Robert Henke a.k.a. Monolake (Ableton), Mike Daliot (Native Instruments), Michael Wagener (producer with credits including Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne and Janet Jackson), Cory Arcangel, members of the Korg M1 development team, Dinis Schemann and others.
Presets are pre-programmed, recallable settings of devices such as synthesizers or effects units: factory stock sounds, equivalent to stock photography or preset filters in apps like Instagram. Audio presets provide a library of "typical" and supposedly desirable sounds - thus enabling consumers to bypass individual programming and get results quickly. Every modern electronic instrument or software comes with presets - which people use heavily.
For "Presets - Digital Shortcuts to Sound", Stefan Goldmann has talked to industry leaders, programmers, producers, musicians and fine artists to provide a comprehensive description of the world of preset audio: from synthesis to sample libraries, from instrument emulations and gear-cloning to automated composition and performance - short cuts in electronic music, classical and traditional musics, guitar rock & fine arts are covered. Disruptive gear and iconic presets, their background and impact - from Korg's M1, Yamaha's DX7 and Roland's 909 to Ableton Live, Native Instruments's Reaktor, sidechain compression and Auto-Tune - are discussed with unprecedented depth and clarity.

Stefan Goldmann's "Adem" finally brings a new concept of handling melodies to the world of House and Techno. Pushy synths tuned to Arabian intervals, playfully pitch bent around one repeated note that sticks to the kick as if it's life depends on it.
It's as if a parallel universe's Acid has been invented in some lunatic asylum in Tirana. This primitive melody is as alienatingly synthetic as it is offensively brain-dissolving. In the hands of a DJ, "Adem" is like the Captagon formula in the hands of the Bulgarian secret service: many deaths, big bucks. Chalga, Tallava, Manele - call it anything.
The B-side's "Rigid Chain" is as detuned, yet strictly limited to a rogue off-beat bassline pumping in between metallic house drums. That's it.

2
Peter Kruder, - Xenomorph
"Xenomorph / Vespertilio" follows up Peter Kruder's "Law Of Return" track, that was a highlight, both in the music world in 2009 and in Macro's ever brilliant catalogue - and one of the now most sought after recent vinyl collectors' records. Xenomorph takes off where Law Of Return ended. 2012 couldn't start deeper: detail rich, dreamy, pushing enthusiastically forward into the new year. Vespertilio then moves between the off-centre sound aesthetics of a Morricone soundtrack and the intensity of hypermodern subbass droppings. This is an irresistably deep double package, exceeding even the boldest expectations. A masterpiece. No more, no less.

Elektro Guzzi deliver one of the most thrilling live performance models for techno and an innovative leap in the art of band performance at the very same time. It's almost the antithesis to what a band is supposed to be. While they use guitar, bass and drums only, they take the most unusual playing techniques and put them together into a rigid mechanical form where it all makes instant, evident sense. Yet, if they had not performed live extensively, becoming audience favourites from Mutek to Sónar or Berghain to Fabric, it would be hard to believe this is really how the music is created. That said, everyone who saw them deemed it impossible they could go even further into the man-machine direction. Yet it is exactly what they did.
Parquet, their second studio album sees them in an unprecedented monomaniacal techno mode. Throughout the 9 tracks the distinctions between instruments and roles are totally vaporized. While their instrumental approach is at the core of their aesthetics, it really doesn't matter anymore if one sound comes from a guitar or bass or drum - it has all been merged into one sonic unit and all there is, is the music as a unified entity. While all the qualities of live performance are at hand - real time interaction, visual plausibility, instant miniscule adaptations - it is a radical break with what group performances have been about so far.
Parquet is as much a straight up club music record as it is rich of nuances and details. Astonishingly, while being their most rigid and dance-centered work to date, it also holds outbursts of beauty with tonal lines, ringing overtones and warm resonances. The rhythms are stripped down to the core and structured for affecting longer stretches of perception. Every track comes with a distinctive, almost "branding" feature - like the hypnotic meter-shifting line of Affumicato, the gated chords of Pentagonia or the abridged rhythm of Absorber. Actually, it all was recorded directly to analog tape. No edits, no overdubs. It's the man-machine in real time and a hint at the love Elektro Guzzi put in the process. You probably have to be as dedicated as Bernhard Hammer, Jakob Schneidewind and Bernhard Breuer to take things that deep.

PRODUCED BY ELEKTRO GUZZI AND PATRICK PULSINGER RECORDED DIRECTLY TO ANALOG TAPE. NO EDITS. NO OVERDUBS.
Elektro Guzzi redefined the meaning of performing techno live. With just guitar, bass and drums, they take the most unusual playing techniques and put them together into a rigid mechanical form where everything makes instant, evident sense. If they had not performed live extensively, becoming audience favourites from Mutek to Sónar and from Berghain to Fabric, it would have been hard to believe this is really how the music is created. Parquet, their second studio album sees them in monomaniacal, claustrophobic techno mode. Throughout the nine tracks the distinctions between instruments and roles are totally vaporized. While their instrumental approach is at the core of their aesthetics, it really doesn't matter anymore if one sound comes from a guitar or bass or drum - it has all been merged into one sonic unit and all there is, is the music as a unified entity. In its quality and appeal "it shouldn't matter if it is played or produced electronically", say Elektro Guzzi. While all the qualities of live performance are at hand - real time interaction, visual plausibility, instant miniscule adaptations - it is a radical break with what group performances have been about so far.

"Two DJs, one tracklist - an innovative double DJ mix concept by the makers of Macro."
Two DJs, one tracklist. Probably for the first time in the history of dance music a release focuses on extracting the pure sound signature of the DJ. When the tracks to choose from are limited to one playlist, the sequencing decisions and mix styles of the DJs reveal their individualities. As well as the different possibilities the music allows when formed into one continuous stream. "Macrospective" is the first conceptual double mix offering a 1 on 1 comparison of the art of DJing with two masters of the craft. But you'll also love it for being a comprehensive retrospective of one of the most intriguing contemporary label catalogues in electronic music.
The two mixes by Macro founders Stefan Goldmann and Finn Johannsen highlight key works of the label (including poll winners The Maze, Law Of Return, Arcade & Lunatic Fringe), bringing out the versatility and individuality of each track. Great music allows for more than a single interpretation. Who could better suggest one than the A&Rs behind Macro and the resident DJs at the label's residency at Berlin's legendary Berghain club?
Finn Johannsen's mix is a one-take live journey through build-ups, peaks and comedowns, but also detours, distractions and surprises. Stefan Goldmann's alternative take is a carefully constructed "architectural" mix, locking specific turning points of the tracks to form an 80 minutes dramatic composition of Macro's essence. By the way, both DJ mixes are vinyl mixes. In an era of dull mp3s, the aesthetics of Macro's carefully cut record releases are the basis for this double album.

In a world of crossover and remixes, Macro is the first electronic music label to release a CD of pure original works of a contemporary classical / avant-garde composer. Commemorating Friedrich Goldmann’s 70th anniversary, the CD presents four late key works. In addition to the retail version, British magazine The Wire will distribute the CD to its subscribers. It is the first time The Wire distributes a CD by a single German composer. Being confronted with dull new ambient and unsatisfying classical/electronic “crossover”, there’s a whole new generation ready to experience relevant, deep music away from 4/4 functionality and aesthetic shortcuts. It is just about time to overcome the substitutes and go for the deep end. Thus Goldmann’s music with its clarity, inventiveness and deep appeal becomes increasingly more relevant for the electronic community.
Friedrich Goldmann, who passed away in 2009, was one of Germany’s most distinct composers. His works were commissioned and performed by leading interpreters, including the Berliner Philharmoniker, Pierre Boulez, Ensemble Modern, Arditti Quartet and Daniel Barenboim. His music is not only heard at concert halls and festivals worldwide, but was also commissioned for major events like Expo 2000 and the 20th Anniversary Celebration of the Fall of the Berlin Wall at the Brandenburg Gate. As a conductor he has recorded CDs with the works of Stockhausen, Henze and Rihm.
Friedrich Goldmann was also the academy professor who taught Paul Frick – now successful with Brandt Brauer Frick in performing techno with the means of a classical ensemble. He is also the father of Macro’s founder Stefan Goldmann. He therefore had influence on two key figures of experimentation at the intersections of classical and electronic music (which may hint at why an electronic music label releases this album).

The story: Techno live: With more and more artists competing for attention, live presentation has become the most important ressource. A growing number of electronic artists are incorporating live instruments into their sound – but only Vienna’s Elektro Guzzi actually play 100% live: no laptops, no loops, no programming. Their unparalleled live success made them the leader in the field: Sónar, Mutek, Berghain, Fabric, Amsterdam Dance Event, Time Warp + dozens more appearances at top festivals and clubs. Elektro Guzzi had the biggest headstart on the circuit of 2010.
This has always been considered the main advantage of having a band on stage: you can see and feel what you hear. And in techno this is only really true for Elektro Guzzi. What sounded incredible in their debut album “Elektro Guzzi”, works wonders live (and they don’t depend on visuals to excite their crowds). They did not only made most laptop acts sound rather dull, but they have been in fast-forward evolution mode, too.
The album: “Live P.A.” captures the latest state of Elektro Guzzi’s incredible live sound, recorded in London with the outstanding mixing capabilities of Brendon ‘Octave’ Harding, the trusted engineer of dub legend Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry.
The set captures Elektro Guzzi’s raw live side, turning out dark grooves with an almost indie edge – probably their most appealing material to date. This set had been originally recorded for Resident Advisor. Now, the CD version has been newly mixed by their producer Patrick Pulsinger (Hercules & Love Affair) and is available in full resolution for the very first time.
Huge crossover potential: attractive to fans of techno/electronic, indie and experimental styles alike. Massive live presence at festivals and clubs. SONÁR (Barcelona), TIME WARP 2010, Spring 10 (Graz), Amsterdam Dance Event, Mutek (Montreal) + several festivals in France, Italy, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Canada, Eastern Europe.

Macro greets rhythmic expressionism:
Stefan Goldmann’s “The Grand Hemiola” is the first real innovation in the vinyl format in years! 144 locked grooves build a toolkit that breaks out of the limitation of one 4/4 cycle and brings unique possiblities to create complex polyrhythms just with two decks and a mixer.
Stefan Goldmann’s first ever double vinyl album is a take on the infinite possibilities of rhythmic layering. Percussion-heavy, focussed on clashing metres, deeply exploring the sound set – from the orchestral “Grand Hemiola”, to the triplet-feel of “Megi’s Waltz”, from the 11/8 pattern of “Double Hendecagon” to the anti-loops of “Away From The Flock”: A unique, non-conformist album of haunted acoustics, haptic percussion and deep rhythmic expression.
A true, first time invention comes on two sides of the vinyl set: “The Grand Hemiola” loop toolkit overcomes the time restriction of locked grooves: one record contains loops in 4/4, the other in 3/4 (employing the time differences of the rotation rates 33 and 45 rpm). In the mix, they sum up to an extended cycle of 3x 4/4 or 4x 3/4 and enable building complex “3 over 4” polyrhythms (“Hemiolas”). You can mix loop into loop for hours without ever getting trapped. More than an album, this is a
Note: pitch down side D to approx. -1,5 to match the loops’ bpm rate on sides B & D.

Man/Machine: Since their self titled debut album, Vienna's Elektro Guzzi made an impact on the scene no one could have imagined. Being the first ever REAL techno live band, they took the scene by storm with their unparalleled stage appeal and future-forward sound. Rocking clubs like Berghain and Fabric as well as numerous festivals (including Sónar, Time Warp, Spring 10, ADE and Mutek), it was the headstart of 2010. Playing constantly live at countless gigs, plus live and studio appearances with Patrick Pulsinger and Stefan Goldmann, Elektro Guzzi's music was set on fast forward evolution mode. "Extrakt EP" captures the latest state of Elektro Guzzi's incredible live sound, recorded in London with the outstanding capabilities of Brendon 'Octave' Harding, the trusted engineer of dub legend Lee 'Scratch' Perry, and mixed by mega-producer Patrick Pulsinger.
The four cuts capture Elektro Guzzi's raw side, turning out dark sexy grooves with an almost indie edge - probably their most danceable and DJ friendly studio material to date - specifically produced for the vinyl format. This EP is the track-format warm up for Elektro Guzzi's NEW LIVE ALBUM CD "Live P.A.", coming up in APRIL 2011 on MACRO! Live performances coming up at Mutek festival (Montreal), Berghain (Berlin), Electron festival (Geneva), Dancity festival (Foligno) and maaaaaaaany more!

Over the past 14 years London’s Oliver Ho aka Raudive has gathered a world wide following with his research into deep techno, through his legendary Meta label and with his unique DJ gigs from New York to Berlin to Tokyo. Introducing the Raudive alias, he created a reduced, sexy, dancefloor-centered wave of greatness for labels from Drumcode to Cocoon. This sound turned out to be highly attractive for the DJs to play and for the girls and boys to dance to. The unparalleled appeal of his beats left the usual minimal competitors sounding rather dull. Thus Raudive quickly became the blueprint of techno modernism and one of today’s most influential genre-bending production styles. With his “Cone” and “Paper” EPs he is now a key artist of the ever brilliant Macro family, and just having launched his own new Wires imprint, the man is more than on fire. Forming the hallmark of the Raudive saga, Macro unleashes the highly anticipated debut album - “Chamber Music". Chamber Music is both: claustrophobic in sound design, reminiscent of the dark and sweaty concrete club spaces this music inhabits, as well as carrying acoustic qualities of induced instrumental experimentalism. Bitches Brew voodoo reeds, New York no wave voices and European avant strings spin a mesmerizing dark patina around the ultra-sexy year-3000-rhythms. No wonder there’s huge DJ support all accross the board - from Miss Kittin to Richie Hawtin, Surgeon to Trevor Jackson, Ricardo Villalobos to Jeff Mills. Massive deep edge and one of 2010 finest albums so far!

"Rough and primitive, this is one big wild party."
House Music 2010. All over the world you'll hear the same lush, looped streamlined house grooves night in, night out down the polished alley of politeness. You can drop in and out of the party at any hour and you'll basically hear the same thing. Strict limits rule. Well - that's over right now. Stefan Goldmann never accepted any limitations and boundaries. That's why he created THE MAZE. THE MAZE tears the agreement of boredom apart. THE MAZE burns the declaration of dependence. THE MAZE takes the original rough sweaty House sound of liberation to distorted excess and slams it right in your polite face. THE MAZE is House not just with a capital H, but with a capital O, U, S and E too. Do you remember why you started going out in the first place? If not, THE MAZE will remind you with the largest feedback overdose since Jimi and Miles devastated the Isle of Wight. Recorded in one take in an all-analog set up, Stefan hooked up drum machines, distorition pedals and a Theremin-controlled Fuzz box for the ultimate screaming machine jam. Now spanning two sides of a 12".
