DJ Eddie Fowlkes created the techno genre alongside Derrick May, Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson. Now the 'Godfather of Techno Soul' uses his extensive knowledge and experience to create a dynamic wax release drenched in Motor City inspiration - this four-track vinyl package is both a love letter to his musical roots and an inspired representation of the left-of-centre house that Classic is known for. Following the stunning digital outing, Oliver Dollar’s ‘Another Day Another Dollar’ now has its long-awaited vinyl release, spread across two EPs. This adventurous artistic statement from one of house music’s most vital names shows off a wider breadth and depth of sound than ever before in his Classic Music Company debut. Using the longer format as a way of expressing different styles, from blues to disco, house to downtempo, the album was in the works for six years. Oliver linked with some of house music’s most essential names, from Ben Westbeech to Matthew K, Daniel Steinberg to Nils Ohrmann via Sqim. The album has now been split over two vinyl EPs, with Part 1 formed of a five-track selection that commits some of the highlights of the album to wax. Opening the A-side is the dreamy piano house of ‘The Delta’ followed by the instrumental-laced bouncing house of ‘Testified’. On the flip, the B-side opens with the filtered funk of ‘Jam Hot’, followed by the mood-setting and funk-laden ‘Space Is That Place’. Closing the EP is an interlude of ‘Party Together’ that perfectly rounds off this blissful release.

In October 2017 Honey Dijon was commissioned to take part in the Smirnoff ‘We’re Open’ campaign, aiming to promote inclusive night time culture and celebrate nightlife's ability to transcend gender boundaries and prejudice. As well as appearing in the ‘We’re Open’ TV commercial, Honey was asked to record her take on the initiative’s ethos for creating positive change, making dance music culture a more open-minded and socially inclusive space. What resulted was a rework of ‘Queen of Disco’ Sylvester’s ‘Stars’ featuring vocals by singer-songwriter Sam Sparro, who she collaborated with previously on her album ‘The Best of Both Worlds’. Now being released on limited edition blue vinyl via Classic Music Company, with breathtaking artwork from assume vivid astro focus who also supplied cover artwork for the album, the entire proceeds from the release will be donated to LGBT Foundation. Created with parts recorded especially for the ‘We’re Open’ advert, ‘Stars’ (Disco Version), produced with the help of Classic head Luke Solomon and studio partner Lance Desardi, pops Sylvester’s spangled party-starter directly into 2018. Sophie Lloyd produced ‘Calling Out’ in a dreary January as an antidote to the pervading doom and gloom of the news, summoning the power of the most joy-filled sound of all, gospel. The track radiates all the live atmosphere of gospel worship in mid flow, with soul trio Dames Brown bringing the authenticity. Following the 7” release, which sold out due to huge demand, comes the 12” complete with the original version plus two brand new mixes from Floorplan. The duo of Detroit techno pioneer Robert Hood and his daughter Lyric Hood are well known for their gospel-infused sound with Hood’s hometown influences always apparent. Just over a year on since he released his stunning LP ‘Happiness’ on Classic Music Company, Eli Escobar returns to the label with an album which couldn’t be further removed in sentiment. Strong contender for dance record of the year- Red Rack’em’s incredibly wonderful and fantastically wonky, Disco Banger, was rereleased on Classic this year. After a few months of slowly embedding itself in people subconscious, it returns with new mixes. First up in the marvellously talented KiNK - Strahil is no stranger to Classic, having made a stamp on the label many years ago with his remix 3rd Face. He's gone from strength to strength with his productions which have been accompanied by his glorious live performances. Kink goes in, heads down with some proper techno Wonk. This is indeed a beast. On the flip Luke Solomon joins forces with Bristol’s very own Eats Everything and Lord Leopard, creating a Bristol “Circle of Three.” The Luke Eats Leopard edit adds a slight bit of conformity to the drums and the arrangement, without taking out too much of the Wonk but taking it ever so slightly into “house “ territory. Overall this is a monstrously Wonky package - and just in time for Xmas too.

It’s been a couple of years since Classic released an original artist album, the last one being Luke Solomon’s critically praised ‘Timelines’. This time round Classic brings a relative newcomer into the fold. Eli Escobar has slowly been building a credible reputation out of his home in New York, releasing his first single back in the late nineties and moving more recently from hip hop into dance music. As a DJ, he harks back to a golden era of disco and early house music, graduating through the 90s during which he was brought up on a diet of underground house including Classic’s early output. In recent years Classic’s head was turned by his wonderful album ‘Up All Night’ that was released on Night People, a label from New York that Eli (pronounced ‘EL-EE’) has a vested interest in. Following up the album with a series of singles, the label swiftly became a cult dance classic. ‘Happiness’ continues from where ‘Up All Night’ left off, championing the disco cut-up ethos from lesser known staples. Eli also enlists the vocal talents of Nomi Ruiz and the legendary Vanessa Daou, who most notably featured on the classic Danny Tenaglia and Peter Daou’s, ‘Surrender Yourself’ back in the 90s. Moving from straight up house party jams such as the title track, ‘Happiness Pt 2’ into raw Chicago work outs like ‘Chaka Khan’, Mood II Swing inspired deepness such as ‘Winters Anthem’ and ‘I Need U’, before wrapping it all up with straight up disco floor fillers like ‘Phreeky’ and ‘Can’t Stop Dancing’. ‘Happiness’ will surely solidify Eli Escobar’s place as more than a “one to watch” producer, this will take him into the realms of a torch bearer for a new generation of underground dance acts.

Heralding from Brighton, married (production) couple Sam and Tracy presented Classic with some music Classic was very familiar with. Not only is Sam a member of the legendary Gramme, but has also featured on a number of past Luke Solomon originals for Classic…so are already part of the extended family. Classic immediately warmed to the music and the music already felt at home. Looking for the right remixer begun - Classic played the tracks to long-time member of Crazy P - a certain Mr Basejam and immediately leapt to them and remixed not one – but both of the records on the EP as he loved them both so much. The result is a meeting of minds sounds and words.

Sometimes you wait and things fall into place, this is an A&R man’s dream. You can spend hours banging your head, waiting for lightening to strike, trying to find the perfect pairing, it’s there floating around in your head but the answer is not clear. The record needs a remix, but who would be perfect? Not being one for doing things by numbers, sometimes you have to leave the music for a moment. Give it a life of its own and allow the musical landscape to adapt to it. I had been mulling over remixes for Seven for quite some time. We had the Krystal Klear mix which was perfect, that happened early on, I just needed something to compliment it and round of the remix single. Detroit Swindle are notorious for being very selective, but armed with Classic as my calling card I got ready to approach them. Low and behold, possibly within a day or two of formalising my approach in my head, they emailed me and asked if they could remix the record. The stars aligned and it all made sense. These two remixes complement each other perfectly, and this feels like a complete single coming from the heart, remixed with love.

Honey Dijon has been part of the Classic DNA since day dot. A long-time friend to both Derrick Carter and Luke Solomon, Honey has produced, remixed, DJ'd and partied for and with Classic for many years. Phoenix Knight was born in May 1992 at the infamous Castlemorton free festival slap bang in the middle of Digs & Woosh's now legendary set on the DiY Soundsystem. Hand reared on Strictly Rhythm and Henry Street joints specially imported from the US East Coast, he soon became well acquainted with the skippy high hats, offbeat snares and wailing vocals of the emerging nineties Deep House sound. After settling in the UK's musical answer to Chicago…Nottingham, he spent the next few years of his childhood being dragged around many of the area's underground house events in quarries, fields, moors and warehouses staged by free party warriors Smokescreen, Spoof, Giddy Fruit, Quadrant and many others. However, after consuming far too many party cabbages, a group of local house producers decided that an intervention was necessary, placing young Phoenix in a stasis, of which he only reappeared from recently. Upon his reawaking, Phoenix was under house arrest, with his only company being some classic house tools of the trade. The SP1200, TR909, S3000XL, Juno 106, and JV1080 may or may not have been used during the creation of his subsequent works, produced during this period of enforced captivity.

Ears pricked up and more information was sought. Who was this man from nowhere - producing music that was modern yet soulful, funky - and best of all coupled with his own vocal talents. Luke Solomon then championed not only ‘One’, but the general excitement surrounding something that ticked all of his boxes. A re-issue from the Classic stable. This time a little something from early 90's Chicago - Written by Mystic Bill and Carl Giamerese the record was a staple part of Luke Solomon and Kenny Hawkes' DJ sets throughout the Girls FM and Bar Rumba / Space years. Luke got in touch with Bill recently as he wanted to include it on his forthcoming 'Unfinished Business' compilation and after much getting to know one another it transpired that Bill was the only surviving member of the original production team. With that, both decided that it would be a fitting time to re-issue the record with a new re-master and new set of remixes. Eats Everything literally begged Luke to remix the record with astounding results. Luke then approached his dear friend Tristan De Cunha, one half of vinyl sensations Dungeon Meat alongside his partner in crime Brawther, to see if they would be up for giving the record a new school old school take - which they did with wondrous results.

Confidently striding into his third musical decade, Luke Solomon’s influence stretches far and wide across a scene that has been embedded in his DNA since the early 90s. Now harnessing that wealth of experience and unmatched passion for music, Solomon presents his next undertaking, positioning himself as the DJ/shop assistant/curator you always dreamt about. Unfinished Business is the latest step for Luke Solomon; a mix album for his kaleidoscopic talents that gives him the chance to highlight what is still the bedrock of his extraordinary career: being behind the turntables and digging out those records you really should be listening to but might have missed in the avalanche of background noise. A mixture of new and old records, Solomon has put an impressive amount of thought into the selection process, meaning this is much more than simply a collection of today’s ‘hottest’ tracks. “It has been interesting to watch dance music do almost a full circle over the last two decades” says Solomon “so as well as showcasing newer, more contemporary house I also wanted to include music from my past that has translated to present day. This four track remix sampler follows up the debut release from Chicago's very own Shaun J. Wright & Alinka, sent directly to Derrick Carter with Classic specifically in mind and immediately snapped up. This is a defining release of the new phase of Classic's re-invention with a new family of artists and an ever growing family of like minded misfits. Three songs with vocals from Hercules & Love Affair vocalist Shaun that sound like they could have sat quite comfortably amongst the original Classic material, yet harnessing the contemporary production tools available. The latest musical addition to the Classic family is Mr. Dan Beaumont. Integral in the birth of Disco Bloodbath, Paris' Acid Ball, Macho City and setting up the London basement rave institutions Dance Tunnel and Dalston Superstore, Dan wowed Luke's heart a year ago after sending him this throwback, move forward disco, hi - energy , house stomper. The track was tentatively titled Trippy Pumper, a title that Luke felt was fitting. Fast forward to now and Classic's relationship with Dan has been cemented in their residency at Dan's wonderful and legendary club, Dalston Superstore. The song now has a ridiculously brilliant video and has awesome remixes from techno kid of the moment "October" and Acid House nobility "Justin Robertson."Bingo…..2014………the year of the Trippy Pumper.

Championed by a certain Mr D. Carter for an age and a staple of Derricks sets, both in it's original form and as the accapella layered atop of a variety of oddities.. This massive DJ Spen sing-along finally gets an official release on The Classic Music Company. This particular limited vinyl release with custom wall paper labels sees the inclusion of the original and exclusive vinyl only accapella. Additionally there’s a freestyle version that Derrick stumbled across whilst DJing in Denver, expertly placing the accapella live over an old 1200 Warriors, Derrick wanted to include this version on the record as a homage to Richie Rich's Salsa House bootleg. To round off the package he then set about destroying the original vocal with trademark BHQ cut ups and a baseline that harks back to Leslie Joy's "Love and Happiness".

Timelines’ is the new LP from British house producer Luke Solomon and it will be released via his and Derrick Carter’s Classic imprint in May in a package that features the LP, a selection of remixes and a mixed bonus version. Luke Solomon’s influence on house music has been strongly felt for many years. As a DJ and promoter he pioneered mid-week London clubbing with his legendary Space night alongside the late, great Kenny Hawkes. As a producer he has constantly delivered original, often idiosyncratic and always unique house music (and beyond) for an enviable list of imprints. As an A&R he has helped develop many a career (Tiefschwarz, Freeform 5 and Isolee to name but a few) with The Classic Music Company and continues to do so with Classic and his new role as one of Defected’s A&R team. ‘Timelines’, even the incredibly humble and self-effacing Solomon would agree, is his best work to date. Featuring vocal contributions from Jon Marsh, Natalie Broomes, Terry Grant and Tiger Tiger, as well as musicianship from Arthur Jeffes (various keys), Andy Neil (guitar and bass), Martin Radford (strings), Sammy Bishai (Violins) , Chris Storr (Horns), Steve Parry (Horns), Anu Pilai (Guitar/bass), Tom Bailey (Guitar) and Danny Harrison (Drums), ‘Timelines’ is so much more than the usual house music album, it’s one man deftly controlling and mastering his very own musical chaos.

A double EP release from the Classic Music Company, mixing together friends old and new from the label. Recent signings to Classic, No Dial Tone deliver their second original production to the imprint ‘Standing Still’ – a deep slow burning almost Bjork-esq vocal record kicks off the A side. Long time label cohort from the early Bar Rumba days; Mathew Herbert twists and turns the record into something completely ‘Herbert’ and ultimately ‘classic’ in its make up. On the flip...long-time Greenskeepers man James Curd returns to Classic with nothing short of a BUMP! ‘Gentle Help’ is typical Curd Funk and now with added Black Madonna flavours. Road tested relentlessly at the Smart Bar, the Chicago native channels the essence of old Dance Mania records and funnels it into something typically a little left of centre. Each track is uniquely different and recognisably Classic.

Two original Classic members return too Classic with an adventure into the world of disco deviance. Tim Kvasnosky (co-writer with Tim Shumaker from Home and Garden fame) and JT Donaldson (Undercover Agency) joining forces here, utilising their wealth of musical knowledge and inspiration to make something that melds the likes of Wally Badarou, the System and Maurice Fulton. A little more left field for Classic after recent releases, but Classic nonetheless. Various interpretations of a mini LP to be released in the next few months…on this particular vinyl only version. Classic adds both Eddie C's disco adventure and the illusive Argentinean Leonel Castillo to the fold. Both of whom turn in stellar performances

“I first heard this track played by the legendary Huggy from Back to Basics in Leeds. I remember being stood at the bar at Space, Bar Rumba with Kenny (Hawkes)...We were mid-conversation and I remember him stopping mid flow and literally running to the DJ booth. Now Kenny wasn't one for making public displays of excitement, and to be honest, I think this was the only time I ever witnessed it. But it floored him. He raved and raved on about it. Bought copies for me, and himself, over and over. I personally think it was the record that defined his sound and his style and sent him off on a mission…And the train sounds, well, those that knew him, knew what that led to…... It was his signature and his sound, and if there is one record that both Derrick and myself couldn't be more honoured to re-release as a testament to his legacy, a record that defined Kenny as a DJ, and a record that keeps that light shining, then it's this one. Viva the Dark Lord.

The idea was to always make the original album a digital only project, hence the name…That in turn made me think of the idea of doing an analogue only version of peoples interpretations of songs that they chose off of the album. So I approached four of my favourite producers of the moment that I felt fitted with the whole project. Originally asking Ryan Elliott to do one of the mixes…he then spoke to his good friend Matthew Dear, who in turn asked to be involved as he has always been a huge fan of Classic, and wanted to be involved…which of course we said yes to, so im truly honoured to have both Ryan & Matthew combining for the very first time here on Classic. Add to Ryan & Matthew - Tom Demac, Chicago Damn and Snuff Crew and we’ve ended up with a four track vinyl sampler that has complemented the album wonderfully and again showcases another completely different character of Classic.

Wonder & Amazement is a record I've had in various forms and incarnations from ex Chicken Lips members Steve Kotey & Andy Meecham for about a year now – a song that immediately grabbed me from the very first moment I heard it. Reminiscent of days gone by mixed with a touch of the new - a song that contains a mixture of both the old Classic and the new Classic. I've been championing it for a while now either in sets or charts, even including it on a recent compilation I did. A record that we are proud to be able to use as a soundtrack to this new era of Classic. Adding to its unique wonder we talked to a few amazing producers to get their own vibes on it for remixes. Crooked Man aka DJ Parrott I've been a fan of for years as part of The All Seeing Eye, his recent 'Machine', 'Preset' and 'Ill Be Loving You' releases (all of which I actually tried to sign to Classic) and for generally being a bit of a Sheffield legend. Here his two mixes are exactly what I hoped for from him. Deetron's productions and remixes I've liked for ages and he seemed to be the right person to go to to give this record that bigger mix it needed. Yosa, is a completely under-rated Japanese producer in my eyes, who's recent records have stayed in my sets for a long long time – the vocal & Instrumental mix delivered here are his second attempt, stripping back the unnecessary fiddly bits and keeping it bare to the bones…classic.

A compilation of four unreleased gems that have been gathered together by Luke and Derrick. First up from a long term member of Classic family is Honey Dijon's remix of the Classic classic, DJ Ali's 'You Don't know' - A heavy garage lead stomp through techno meets Chez Damier… A main stay of Luke's set recently and one of the biggest records at Jamie Jone's Paradise night at DC10 that Luke recently frequented alongside another monstrous record from DJ Parrot(Crooked Man) and Mark Brydon (Moloko). Under the guise of Knights of the Hunted, Parrot & Mark deliver 'X The Beat' – it stomps its way through Storm Queen meets Sylvester. Getting an official digital release on Girls later on in the year, Classic get the privilege of releasing it exclusively on vinyl. A welcome return to Classic for Narcoleptic who delivers some deep garage that has already been getting love from Matt Tolfrey and by no means finally, new to the family come BiteOfire who get the remix love from Berlin residing Kris Wadsworth. ‘Classic prides itself in being a family. Generally a lot of the music we have put out over the years tends to gravitate towards us either through friends, friends of friend, or odd situations. When that music has found its way to us through friends and people that are already part of the Classic family, in this case via JT Donaldson, Derrick and myself always stand up and take notice even more as we know there is usually a story behind it. As a result, we are proud to welcome No Dial Tone as new members to the oddball family made up of miscreants and weirdos that is Classic. A record I immediately fell in love with due to its quirky rhythms and repeating vocal, ‘About You’ is a record that seemed to have Classic written all over it. ‘I was asked to write some words about my next release on Classic. Some of you may and some of you may not know that the dance music community lost an incredible talent close to a year ago. That person was not only an incredible talent, he was also my friend. I wrote this song a couple of years before we lost Kenny. The subject matter was for something very different, but it related to something that equally effected Kenny and myself. I had Jon's voice in my head whilst writing and we set about recording and finishing it. The original song was quite different, but I remixed it with Kenny in mind. I wanted it to be something that he would play and connect with. It was kind of therapeutic for me, and a fitting way to say goodbye. I played the song to both Ewan and Andy, and they both wanted to remix it. In fact it was Ewan that suggested that he would like to donate some money towards something "Kenny." My good friend Roaul at Faith, also a close friend of Kenny's set up a fund for Kenny, and along side Kenny's girlfriend Wendy, we are looking at buying a bench for Kenny in Brighton…’
