Schuttle - Inspo 2000
“Where is this? It looks like the grounds of a shrine. Like a deep, dark, forest. I'm wandering around. I can't get over the feeling that I've been to this place before. The temple and the tower look much bigger than usual, and I feel as if I were lost in a world of immensity. It's very dark with no sky up above, like being in the depths of the Earth. Anyway, it's a world I know.” - Leisure, the Sonorous Dream For schuttle’s next unearthly contribution, we invite you to slip into the reassuring comforts of the simulated realm. Herein lies an open invitation to all of those tentative travellers willing to join us as we revel in four slices of post-biological optimism. The world building begins with “Splan”. schuttle’s navigation vessel hovers steadily above a fractal landscape until a divine arp propels us skywards. We burst through the latent cloudsphere to marvel at the boundless synergy of the interlocking polygons. The sunburst gradient barely has time to load before an oscillating wriggle plunges us into a strangely familiar stomping ground. Hedonistic NPCs begin spawning at random, splurging joyful machine funk at each other before walking gleefully into walls. Finally, with a little help from a well known toad, schuttle unleashes the full might of his Mana on the nascent gathering. We dock next in ‘Melonweed Musick’. Our vessel gently stirring the reeds as we descend into the marshland. The potent aroma of the swamp fills our nostrils, various apparitions seem to wriggle into view. What have we been inhaling? No time to consider, the loose murk of the breakbeat is starting to take effect and it’s all we can do to keep one foot squelching after the other. As we submit wholeheartedly to the sheer depth and clarity of the bassline, a kindly angel sweeps above the sphagnum, spraying a succession of cleansing chords over our slimy bodies. Refreshed with some useful navigation advice we continue. In ‘Kitchen Sync’ our craft’s speedometer is tickled up to a cruising 120bpm. The world outside our window begins to swim with colour, prickly forms materialise then dissipate around us. The familiar shape of our old friend, the high priest 303 appears before us, steadying the ship. Its resonant flame warming our hearth, and our hearts too. Then begins a beautiful communion of the domestic and the otherworldly, through the interplay of acid under glimmering keys. Provoking within us an uncontrollable desire to open our curtains, to cast off our slippers and embrace the infinite morrow. Our voyage concludes with ‘Inspo 2000’. Scintillating landing lights guide us toward our destination, our descent beckoned by woody and playful percussion. We tumble through the troposphere, our landing cushioned by the buoyancy of the gated chords, the kicks juicing what's left of our dwindling fuel supply. A luxurious breakdown brings the ground into focus. Perhaps this is home? The simulation is now so accurate that it seems pointless to question it, it is a world we have always known.

Jorg Kuning - B2. Quirl
“Things derive their being and nature by mutual dependance and are nothing in themselves.” It seems to us that Jorg gives birth to music like the process of amphibian metamorphosis. When the eggs that he so painstakingly delivers are ready to hatch, they morph into fully realised life forms. The hatchlings breathe the sweet air and begin to expand into the universal whole, their tendrils burying deep into the immaterial realm; fulfilling their role in the never ending cosmic dance. Our dance begins with ‘Klarneto’. A joyous moss sprung bassline flings us readily on our ride down rainbow road, the benign cloud creatures that line its path encourage us humorously along with gentle slaps of their glittering percussive tails. Just as we begin to settle into our trip, the kaleidoscopic tiles beneath us give way, but fear not! Jorg’s interdimensional Klarinet swoops out of the clouds beneath us, catching us gracefully on its tail. ‘Rodeo Romeo’ plucks us out of the clouds into Jorg’s boggy pastures below. A flock of low flying digi-gulls glisten in the sheen of the moon, casting shadows above the writhing grass. Until some unruly marsh-dweller gleefully lifts the lid on the Robo-Drip machine, unleashing a chaotic staccato liquid which bubbles happily out, before Jorg calmly guides it back into its box for another night. Over to ‘Robotomy’. Here Jorg enlists the services of some of his friendly trans-dimensional machine elves, who revel in the opportunity to play a vocal call and response with Jorg’s rhythm section. The dance climaxes with the riser from heaven, dragging us backwards through the pond portal and spitting us out the other side shrieking with joy. We’re not entirely sure what has just happened, but it felt so good. Finally then to ‘Quirl’. A thigh burning exercise in sub-aquatic dance meditation, urged forward by Jorg’s tentacle laced chords. All encompassing, deeply hypnotic swirls of colourful keys dance across the vista, occasionally breaking out of their melodic confines to make friends with a twisting serpentine resonance. Ultimately our eyes open too soon, but we take comfort that all the phases of continual being will disseminate infinitely.

schuttle - Junkman
Born from the party of the same name held at Manchester’s storied White Hotel, the increasingly essential Bakk Heia label has consistently put out thrilling 12”s from co-founders schuttle and low-key cult favourit Jorg Kuning since 2019. Stepping up for the imprint’s sixth release, schuttle brings four tripped-out cuts of contemporary dance music, showcasing his production chops across four stellar tracks, already getting an airing from Ben UFO on the Hessle Audio Rinse FM show, as well as support from Joe Delon, Kiernan Laveaux, Om Unit, K Means, Barker, Pariah & Terry Francis. “schuttle’s latest offering begins with ‘Shadout’. Fractured celestial voices materialize from a mist of frosted percussion while a merciful kickdrum splutters above the surface, bringing with it the viscous, swampy murk. ‘Souvlaki’ follows with playful impish chatter that stumbles over the moss-covered bassline, whilst cascading snare hits tumble down abandoned wells, a gentle guiding presence through the forest. ‘Swords Dance’ is a 10-minute display of cosmic glory, where conventional momentum is abandoned in favour of complete ecstatic, unbridled chaos. After the dust settles on this fiendish bacchanalia, ‘Junkman’ creeps into the fore. Caustic mire oozes into focus, mist rising sluggishly from the reeds while an elemental pad sweeps across the terrain.”

Jorg Kuning - Bodyscan
We once again call upon Jorg Kuning for his sonic offerings. In answer, he has delivered four bubbling, pulsating tracks that ooze with organic vitality. The fruit of Jorg’s labour comes shrouded in morning mist from the Black Mountains, their meticulous details expanding and collapsing like dew drops in earthly pools. The record begins with ‘Simmons’. Deep, amphibious sub bass drives the elements in perpetual forward motion. Atonal squeals wriggle through the undergrowth, cutting swathes of space to make room for the chords; whose arrival descend like manna to nourish us in all their microtonal glory. We then ramble onto ‘Transplant’. Joyful squelches tumble around an Entish kick drum; the healing vibrations of which swell with the clinical serenity of the jazz indebted stabs. Pads swell and shine above the vegetation, leaving fractal trails in their wake. The B side marches on with ‘Dripgroove’. The crystal clear, angular elements are playfully squeezed out of Jorg’s machines. The rhythm section approaches us with primeval generosity, until the quaking tension is finally released and the dam is open. The holistic ‘Bodyscan’ concludes the trip. Beginning with gentle warming movement, the energy quickly takes a decidedly more twisted turn. When the sun sets on the shimmering keys, Jorg’s synthetic seagulls signal our return to the murk; the ensuing groove driving us deeper towards the earth’s core.
