The project has taken almost 2 years with the help of many musicians, singers and producers from the scene. Moxie Presents Volume Two Sampler is the first physical release from Moxie's compilation series of the same name on her newly conceived 'On Loop' imprint. CRFSPLIT is a new series, a collaboration between CRF and a guest label with two different artists. For the first release, we choose CLFT, the French label based in Lyon. On the A side we ask Birth of Frequency to do two tracks, The Scar and The Fink, two hypnotic and abstract tunes, with a dry and claustrophobic atmosphere. CLFT choose 2030 on the B side with Life’s Lake and Fallen-in, very Detroit influenced with light pads and melodies.

Shift LTD's second instalment of their 'Basement Traxx' VA series, a solid 4-track complation from label heads DNArt and Gianluca Marcelli and their guests Petr Serkin and Lady Blacktronika. After having released great music from the likes of Enrico Mantini and @Jordan Fields, Shift LTD is back with its fifth release, a Various Artists from some of the label's very own DNArt & Gianluca Marcelli. We start with DNArt dj's 'Rubbers (Bassmental Mix)', a classic 90's house track characterised by dreamy pads, a warm baseline and a looped male vocal cut that sits in the background and gives that extra groove to the track. Next up on the A-Side, the Russian producer Petr Serkin brings the energy ups with 'Mayak', a straight-up 4/4 floor filler for the early hours. Saturated crispy percussion, a xylophone-like synth and the bubbling bass-line are what make the difference in the track. If I had to choose a closing track for a festival I'd definitely keep this one in mind! On the other side we have the label owner Gianluca Marcelli with 'Grab It'. The Florence-based producer delivers a deep cut full of swinged percussions and dusty sampled synth lines. On B2 we have Akua Grant aka 'The First Lady of Deep House' aka Lady Blacktronika. Her track is entitled 'Changing Your Love', a smooth deep journey with a female vocal cut saying 'She Changed Your Love', moody pads and hypnotic percussions.

Ptaki's tunes soar wide-winged like their translation (bird) infers. With a breakout single under their belts on the Very Polish Cut-Outs 'Krystina' and a swirling vapour of mystique surrounding them, the duo present their first full 12" of original material which is both contemplative and transfixing. The Kalina EP on Young Adults Recordings clocks in around 25 minutes, but the ground it covers cannot be clearly conveyed through conventional cartography - a birdseye view of jagged cliffs, coastal haze, rolling bagpipe hillsides, and smoke signals. Opener 'Warsaw' borders on the sublime with a patience and gentle simplicity that can't be taught or bought. Placidly ethereal, this is cinematic Balearia in the tradition of Quiet Village that won't soon be forgotten. Chimes, toms, horns and strums swell and crash like gentle titans. 'Foxy' builds slow on Celtic tropes and emerges from the bell tower with a jump in its step. Vocal swoons keep the pace atop effective strings and a bouncy bassline. 'Kalina' builds on an effortless guitar and displays the duo's songwriting chops with a stable balance of emotion and punch. The closer 'Skala' explores deeper territories with a thumping low end and acid workout, but still manages to drift into dreamlike states with its meandering flute refrains and guided meditation samples.

We here at WPH are not ones to celebrate each and every significant number in our history. We do not even consider numbers to be that significant. But what we do believe is that every story has its ending and that every ending should come with a bang. The compilation opens with the dynamic killer "Junk Funk" by DC newcomer OV, a pure cut that rotates between percussive slice and complete ambient stasis. Juju & Jordash come thru next with "Soggy Bottom" and get their hypnotic piano throb on, and Max D's "Octopus" follows with an improvised, kinetic bang. Grapes & Isle O' Man ft. The Wino Boys (an alias for MB and OD, who've put in work on RH's No Label) knock it out with a beautiful slab of whacked reggae in "Up The Dubs (It Can't Rain Forever)", and Further Records' Raica fades it out majestic with "Makmba." Disc 2 starts with a new track from Beautiful Swimmers, "Primo", a thick chunk of Industrial Pop, like some fractured version of "Was Dog A Doughnut" for the freaks. Jeremy Hyman, most recently heard from in collaboration with FT's Max D for the Lifted LP on PAN earlier this year, rides a luscious animated opening into a great slice of plastic techno with "Machine Stops". The B Side starts with Protect-U's insane "Krums", a whirlwind of liquid metal and cranked snares, and rides out with "First Sign Of Artifice," the first, amazing burst from newcomer Edy Alta. Disc 3 starts with Shanti Celeste and her monster cut "Strung Up", a savage tune for the deejays that mixes a bit of her native Bristol with classic electro. After that Dawit & Dolo (aka Dawit Eklund of the 1432 R crew and Dolo Percussion) collab on the massive, always-rising "Knowledge Body," turning a hurricane of snares into a moody, slow-build tower. Steve Summers lets us breathe for a moment on the last side of the comp with "Shimmer," a sick vignette and DJ tool. DSR.MR (a collaboration between Mood Hut's Cloudface and Max Ravitz aka M Rav/Patricia) shuffle into infinity after that with the blessed Rhodes techno shifter "Crystal Jungle," and C'est Life (aka Jack J) ends the compilation on a perfect note with the timeless "New Years Eve 2013."
