outboxx - DENIM DREAMS
Over a handful of singles and an album on Bristol labels like Immerse, Idle Hands and BRSTL, it's now time for Jacob Martin and Matt Lambert aka Outboxx to make their debut on Local Talk. Sticking close to what they do best, this EP is filled with house music infused with electronic soul. The opening 'Planet Love' is a warm & sunny chord driven track and has a strong UR/ Galaxy 2 Galaxy feel to it. 'On My Own' is bass-heavy 21st century house music, finely honed for those late evenings in a packed club and finally the end track 'Denim Dreams' is the perfect sun-soaked, heavy groovin' sci-fi jam. This EP confirms Outboxx as fully-formed members of the Local Talk family and the sheer quality of these tracks will further cement their position as two of the most exciting new names in House.

It’s been exciting to watch Outboxx take shape over the past two years, chasing their vision for a more meaningful kind of deep house music via Jake’s intense attention to detail, Matt’s way with the keys and Naomi’s arresting voice. It’s been a steady progression, reaching out to select labels but keeping things largely close to home on Idle Hands, Immerse and BRSTL, while their tracks have developed in ever more confident strides. They make perfect sense as a Bristol act, but not because of an externally idealised vision of a Bristol house music scene, but more
because their music taps into the same spirit of adventure and soulfulness that has always characterised the most treasured of all music from the city. Like many before them, Outboxx have a gift for capturing emotion and anchoring it with just the right amount of rudeness.
It feels like the right time then for an album from the pair, and upon listening to it you can instantly hear why. Afforded the space of a long player, Jake and Matt’s ideas flourish, both more refined and wilder in the same instance. The tempos move from lo-fi downtempo skit to pumped up house, via haunted minimal techno and snappy garage, and yet the shifts seem barely noticeable between the cohesive sound that they have formed. Most importantly, it’s a record that sounds completely out on its own, marrying together disparate sounds and rhythms and making
them sound natural. It’s a great testament

Rounding off what has been a busy year for Idle Hands comes a 12" from west country residents Outboxx. This duo, comprised of Jacob Martin (aka Hodge) and Matthew Lambert have steadily built a reputation for themselves with releases on Well Rounded and Immerse. Moving away from the dominant trends in bass music the pair have been forging a sound more akin to early nineties deep house - yet retaining a palette of 2011 sounds.
Here they present two tracks - 'Aporia' is a lesson in wistful house, all pianos and a sneeky bass drop half way through the tune. 'Cromwell' is a straight ahead house roller, but with enough sub to keep the bass enthusiasts happy. Support so far from Ramadanman and Sven Weiseman.
