Bottin - 1 RESPIRARE

Bottin - 2 WATERLAND
One of Italy's most revered producers on the global scene, Bottin is always ready with an invigorating palette of sounds and rhythms that stem from his endless thirst for invention. This new release continues that diverse legacy with Balearic-infused pair of Italo cuts. "Waterland," is a buoyant disco number. Its bass ebbs and flows with wave-like consistency, polyrhythmic drums percolate beneath, creating a type of suspended animation that propels motion with a tempered energy. The slow-burning crescendo of Respirare' begins with an airtight blend of tick-tock rhythm and minimal then the pace picks up and the synths pile on. Bottin takes the blissed-out enchantment of the Balearic and infuses it with the kinesis of Italo without the music losing its easy-breeze stride.

After a long break (6 years!) mysterious ARTIFACT label is back with a new private pressing of juicy Bottin re-edits. Fist off, "Domenica" is an upbeat synthesizer disco number, complete with happy chanting and funny instrumental hooks. Second track "Cha Cha Cha" leans towards Italian new wave, with English, French and Spanish vocals. Maybe what Tom Tom Club could have sounded like - if they were from Milan. Side B starts with a thick, throbbing funk groove "Chico Train", topped by hilarious narration of a surreal train ride to, station to station. The closing number "Vital Grace" is a dark, sexy disco thing, with lush female vocals and over-the-top strings. As often in all things Bottin, this EP is all-Italian affair - Vinyl-only and very limited quantities as usual.

Venetian disco master Bottin comes with the 2nd release on his newly launched TIN imprint! The first single on orange striped vinyl instantly became an object of desire for countless wax hunters. Now this is your chance to secure a copy of the follow-up single, designed by Zaven and individually screen printed by the artist himself, thus each copy is unique and is bound to become even more collectible than the previous release. DIRTY can roughly be described as a magnetic disco-not-disco burner, with heavy drums, tinges of punk and new wave chanting. This is actually only half of the description, since at the 4-minute mark an evil synth from beyond takes control, sucking you into a vortex of deranged dancing and no, you ''can't stop, oh no'' as the chanting continues. Instead you'll be begging for more and that's precisely what you'll get since this is a longer mix (clocking at 8'42'') made exclusively for this vinyl and will not be released digitally. Comes on white vinyl individually screen printed and stamped in transparent pvc sleeve.

Bottin, AKA Guglielmo Bottin, first crossed paths with us at the Carnival of Venice. He was playing live synth whilst Bearfunk head-bear Stevie was DJing. After more DJing & some jovial keyboard sessions and some seriously impressive listening, we knew we had just found our favourite new Venetian. The Horror Disco concept all started with the chance loan of a noisy, old, incontrollable, 70's Farfisa Syntochestra synthesizer. This proved to be the weapon of choice for several of the tracks on the album (Mary Lewis, Magnetic Cat) with Bottin building up hand-played layers old school style. A few tweaks of the Farfisa led our man to the world of sounds he grew up to: the soundtracks to Italian slasher B-movies (like those by Lucio Fulci, Bava, Argento & Alberto Martino), but also futuristic horror scenarios, cosmic travels and close encounters with space vampires... The die was set. Horror Disco melds these soundtrack and aural ideas with a 100% disco album. One that drifts away from most of the soulful elements of disco and one that is dirtier, warmer and less polished than contemporary Scandinavian nu-disco. The album is wide and varied - 'Slashdance' gives us a Goblin-esque robo-vocoder-disco, 'Roger Bacon' is pure cosmic groove, whilst the Italo-disco-Thriller 'Disco For The Devil' features the vocals of Italian-based, UK-born session master Douglas Meakin - who back in the day was lead vocalist in Simonetti's Easy Going and Crazy Gang cult disco projects.
