Guruku - What It Takes (Bonus Beats)
Tracklist: A1. Mesmerized (Giovanni Damico Remix) A2. Mesmerized A3. Mesmerized (Daniel T Remix) B1. What It Takes B2. What It Takes (Rayko vs WvP) B3. What It Takes (Bonus Beats) Key Selling Points LA-based DJ duo Guruku is back with their second release. The title track ‘Mesmerized’ has a throwback feel to the likes of The Gap Band, Prince, and D-Train. With a loose format, Rojai’s vocal builds the dubbed-out drums and heavy synth line that rises to an electrifying release with dirty hypnotic pads smothering a delicious bassline. Italy’s Giovanni Damico lays down a heavy bass textured to perfection with tasty vocoders throughout. Daniel T. (Cosmic Kids/DFA) takes rhythmic cues from B’more's Unruly Records while keeping close to his West Coast roots with a G-funk synth line riding high. What It Takes starts with a melodic, percussive Moog line that breaks into a full production of Rhodes, live bass, and early 80s drums. Rojai delivers a heartfelt love letter letting the one know they can stand the test of time. Rayko vs Wvp mix keeps the boogie alive with a cascading bass line for the dancefloor. RIYL: Star Creature, Dam Funk, Ray Mang, and The Gap Band.

Guruku - Love Runaway ft Tamara Lee (Ray Mang Reprise)
Tracklist: A1. Love Runaway ft Tamara Lee A2. Crimped Hair B1. Love Runaway ft Tamara Lee (Ray Mang Remix) B2. Love Runaway ft Tamara Lee (Ray Mang Reprise) Key Selling Points California-based label Ritual Release introduce new & as-yet unknown duo Guruku. Love Runaway is their debut EP and comes with remixes by disco don Ray Mang. Title track ‘Love Runaway’ features criminally underheard Tamara Lee on vocals and co-writing duties. LA funk/R&B/future twang auteur Harriet Brown (Innovative Leisure, Phantom Island, World Building) provides guest vocals on the EP’s second original track, ‘Crimped Hair’. On the flip, Ray Mang delivers a masterclass in honing ‘Love Runaway’ for peak dancefloor effect in a choice of extended remix or dubby reprise. “Absolutely essential release. A really good song is turned into a modern disco monster by Ray Mang, channeling Prelude Records circa 1982.” – Bill Brewster (DJ History, UK) GENRE: Boogie, Disco, Funk FOR FANS OF: Maurice Fulton, The Vision, Dreamcast, Star Creature
