Scott Hansen aka. Tycho's sixth full-length album is a worthy comeback, a self-proclaimed album about "hope for the future and a requiem for the past". Drawing on the image of Hunter S Thompson as portrayed by Johnny Depp in Fear And Loating In Las Vegas - "sitting at a typewriter looking out a window onto his past, trying to find meaning in the chaos" - so Tycho ventures to explore his own past and to sublate it in album form, with the express purpose of finding a universal sonic panacea for humankind. Tycho's cure-all is a vision in suspenseful electro-funk and thumpingly serene beats, which carry with them a signature womp and pump throughout. Focusing primarily on breaks, drums and rhythmic elements, Hansen nonetheless moves in markedly different direction compared to standout algo-choices like Dive, on which a slower pace was heard preferred.

All Things The Cinematic Orchestra have announced a 20th anniversary tour & audio reissue of their seminal 2003 album “Man With A Movie Camera.” The live shows will feature songs from the album with all new visuals, celebrating the release across Europe. The 2LP limited edition comes in ashen and pewter grey coloured vinyl, housed in a rigid tip-on foiled, embossed and debossed detail gatefolded sleeve with updated artwork and new liner notes. This reissue will include 12” double sided art card insert of unseen session photography from the time. As part of the film festival celebrations of Porto being the European City of Culture in 2001, Jason Swinscoe of The Cinematic Orchestra was commissioned to score a soundtrack to a silent movie as a one-off performance. The film was Dziga Vertov's ‘Man With A Movie Camera,’ a 1929 early documentary cinema film from the Soviet Union, and hailed by many including The British Film Institute to be one of the greatest films of all time, nearly 100 years on from its creation. The performance took place in the historic Coliseu Porto, and ended with a standing ovation of 3,500 people. The Cinematic Orchestra have since toured the show internationally over the years, including performances at The Barbican in London, NYC’s Winter Garden at WTC, and Sydney Opera House. The band was in the process of writing “Every Day” when the film commission occurred, which had a formative influence on “Man With A Movie Camera”. Certain tracks that made it onto “Every Day” in other forms were written specifically for the score or were already in development, which allowed Swinscoe and the band to remold motifs to the film's unfolding narrative. The title 'Every Day' was based on the narrative in the film, which portrays a day in the life of an idealised Soviet society, beginning with people waking up, moving through various workplace environments, and into leisure time & activities. “Man With A Movie Camera” was eventually recorded and released in 2003. it was met with much acclaim. The Guardian gave it 4/5 and said “You can perform an autopsy on the jazz instruments, DJ Shadow-like grooves and repeating chord sequences, yet come away scratching your head as to how, in such simple combinations, they make such heartfelt music.” The Independent on Sunday continued, “It stands alone, proud and complete.” And dance magazines also showered it with praise such as DJ Magazine, “The genius, a word not to be used lightly, of The Cinematic Orchestra seemingly knows no bounds.” Since debuting with “Motion”, in 1999, The Cinematic Orchestra have sold hundreds of thousands of albums, generated over a billion streams and enjoyed critical support from the likes of Pitchfork, The Guardian, New York Times, Le Monde, Resident Advisor, Fader, Crack, Rolling Stone, Gilles Peterson, Benji B, Jason Bentley and Mary Anne Hobbs. In 2007, The “Ma Fleur” album was recognised for its bold departure from the group’s sonic traditions; in the years since, it’s been continuously celebrated, with tracks like ‘To Build A Home’ reaching huge audiences. The band have performed to larger and larger audiences and sold out the likes of London's Royal Albert Hall, Philharmonie de Paris, Rome’s Auditorium Park Della and the Sydney Opera House. Coachella, Glastonbury, Fuji Rock, Montreux and Sonar have all played host to the band’s much loved live performances. They have also appeared at the Directors Guild Lifetime Achievement Awards for Stanley Kubrick and New York’s Summerstage with the legendary Mahavishnu Orchestra with John McLaughlin. Their original score for “The Crimson Wing”, included the track ‘Arrival of the Birds’ which featured in the Oscar Winning Stephen Hawking biopic "The Theory of Everything”. Their last album “To Believe,” charted in the Top 20 of the UK albums chart and #1 in the album vinyl chart.

Originally released in 2002, “Trouser Jazz” was the hotly anticipated follow-up to the Manchester-based DJ, producer, record collector and cartoonist’s barnstorming Ninja Tune debut “Keep it Unreal” (1999). As a DJ, Andy Carthy aka Mr. Scruff plays across the board, moving between soul, funk, hip hop, jazz, reggae, latin, african, ska, disco, house, funk, electro, breaks, soundtracks and loads more. As a producer he makes music that draws on these influences, with a large dose of cheek and good humour. His cartoon drawings illustrate gig flyers, posters, record sleeves, t-shirts and occasionally accompany him at gigs as live animated visuals. “Trouser Jazz” – recorded largely at Carthy’s home studio with engineer Danny Evans – neatly encapsulated Scruff’s ethos, his joie de vivre and his inimitable combination of tight knit funk, expansive sonics and dancefloor dynamite. “The album is a real mixture of moods and tempos, just like my DJ sets, twisting my influences and inspirations into different shapes,” explains Andy. “It was also the time when I started to develop my low-end addiction, as tracks such as ‘Ug’ and ‘Shelf Wobbler’ testify. The collaborations were enjoyable too, from Bernard Moss’ one-take flute that Seaming & Sneaky built a track around on ‘Valley of the Sausages’, Braintax’s medieval working-class themed rap on 'Vibrate', Sneaky’s bass and Andy Kingslow’s abrasive synth solo on ’Shrimp’ (which was the first of many tracks we did together), Andy K again on ‘Champion Nibble’, Niko’s glorious & touching vocals on ‘Come Alive’ and Seaming's otherworldly vocals on ‘Beyond’. When I listen back to Trouser Jazz, I can feel the fun and energy from those studio sessions.” Everyone including Pitchfork delighted in the record’s joyful eclecticism: “Trouser Jazz is quite possibly the answer to all of your sugar-fueled Saturday morning disco prayers, churning out one chocolate-frosted cereal box prize after another and bringing down the house with an inspired mix of rubbery funk, hipster soul and gleefully contorted, krush groovin’ hip-hop.” It’s tough to pick out highlights in a set of consistently top drawer productions but ‘Shrimp’ is an inspired fusion of Mizell Brothers cool and Roger Troutman’s squelchy funk; ‘Come Alive’ is a triumphant soulful jaunt blessed with Niko’s vocal and rooted by the most hypnotic bassline on the album. Meanwhile the outright dumb ‘Ug’ is “a giant teddy bear of a track… the subcutaneous bellow of the bassline, the Flat Eric keyboard squawks and slithering hi-hat snaps propel it to the top of the heap” (Pitchfork). Undoubtedly it was the aforementioned characteristics that made ‘Ug’ a stone cold backroom classic.

“It's 24 hours to choose your own adventure: from morning to night, into first light. Music for all hours, and music that’s all ours too”. ‘All Hours’ pays homage to the many faces and seminal eras of electronic music; an ambitious, evocative interpretation of the sounds and sentiments that make a day (and night) out on the UK underground. Transporting us on a heady trip, we meet a contemplative but optimistic Anz at ‘Decisions (AM Intro)’ before venturing into the effervescent afternoon sunshine of ‘You Could Be ft. George Riley’. The evening brings the sweet UKG shuffle of ‘Real Enough To Feel Good’ before we step up to ‘Inna Circle’, a Motor City-via-Manchester workout engineered to get dancefloors moving. Early hours club mutations arrive courtesy of ‘Last Before Lights’, hoovering up warps, pads and kinetic breakbeats in Anz’ inimitable fashion. At the time the album was recognised for its bold departure from the group’s sonic traditions. Dealing with themes of loss and love - and in itself representing a kind of absence - "Ma Fleur" is fertile ground for Swinscoe and long term collaborator Dominic Smith's brand of music-making, for while people rightly have talked about what they do in terms of jazz, the truth is that the basis of their music has always also been in raw emotion. From the achingly beautiful opener "To Build A Home" to the finale, "Time And Space," this is an album which reaches for and finds a truth and honesty far beyond what we would normally expect from such a record, but without losing any of the accessibility which made the band popular in the first place. If the mood is melancholy, The Cinematic Orchestra manage to make it an ultimately uplifting experience, perhaps in the end more about the love you find than the love you lose…

Debut album Nothing Is Still on black heavyweight vinyl.Plus accompanying Novella co-written by Leon Vynehall and 60 x 40 poster housed in a hard back box. Includes download code. Following on from 2 critically acclaimed double EPs in Music For The Uninvited & Rojus, Leon presents his first album proper, expanding on his already well crafted sound to offer an exciting and immersive sonic journey. The album follows a multi layered and ambitious narrative inspired by Leon's grandparents emigration to New York, where they spent nearly a decade living throughout the 1960's. The story is presented over four different mediums, Literature, Music, Film, and Photography, culminating with a live experience bringing each element together to form a modular and multi-faceted campaign. As mentioned above, this is a multi-faceted campaign & accompanying the LP will be a Novella written by Leon & his friend. Inspired by the mood and feeling of each chapter of the Novella, Leon has composed music conveying the mood, emotion and flow of the writing which form sonic representations of the narrative. As a scene is set in the literature, or the mood and pace of a chapter changes, so does the music, so every shift in dynamics cleverly complements the writing. In addition to writing, composing, playing and producing this album, Leon conducted a 10 piece string section headed by arranger and composer Amy Langley. Vynehall also called upon saxophonist and flautist Finn Peters, and jazz pianist Sam Beste to provide additional playing, all mixed with Blue May at the legendary Konk Studio. The result is an album which displays Vynehall's growth and maturity as a musician and sees him release his first proper debut LP as a fully fledged artist.

Illum Sphere’s 2016 album “Glass” was a focussed statement from the DJ and producer - a poised reflection on detachment and an assertion of his many talents. Now Glass has been reworked across two fresh 12” releases via Ninja Tune. On the first, original “Glass” album track ‘Fall Into Water’ sees itself packaged up with Machine Woman’s remix of ‘Paradise’, a mighty, mechanical study of the original, the track’s original framework pounded from up high and expertly reassembled. Also on the flip, Gavsborg (Equiknoxx) remixes ‘The Journey’ - urgent and reflective in equal measure, it is an impactful and intricate exploration of the original. Limited to 500 copies and includes ‘Wounded’ Fotomachine Remix (digital download).

Now Glass has been reworked across two fresh 12” releases via Ninja Tune. For the second 12”, album cut ‘Red Glass’ is partnered with Hieroglyphic Being’s remix of the same track - following the release of his much sought after and critically acclaimed album for Technicolour Records, he provides a tranced out dispersion of the original. It shares it’s slab of wax with Beau Wanzer’s remake of ‘Fuel The Fire’ - the original becoming a stuttering, looping rhythm of brooding intensity. Limited to 500 copies and includes ‘Wounded’ Fotomachine Remix (digital download).

Seven Davis Jr, D Bridge & Animal Collective drop wide remixes for London's Steve Spacek ... strong 12". TIP! *Street Date 11th December - Not To Be Sold Before* Back in January 2015, Steve Spacek (Spacek, Africa HiTech, Black Pocket, Space Invadas) - a British vocalist and producer whose fearless approach to creation has always been progressive and highly original - dropped his debut album Modern Streets under the moniker Beat Spacek. Created entirely on iOS apps for iPhone and iPad, it was a highly original and utterly essential anthology of his progressive and deeply soulful electronic excursions. Three like-minded souls step up on remix duties: Seven Davis Jr, dBridge and Animal Collective. SDJR transposes Spacek's digi-funk onto a jaunty 4x4 groove with typical panache, finding favour with Four Tet, Daphni and Floating Points (amongst others) who hammered it through the summer. On the flip, dBridge (Steve's brother) and Deakin from Animal Collective showcase their own machine funk interpretations - the former sleek and weighty as you would expect from the Exit Records boss and the latter gloriously scattershot in its form and function.
