2020 Midnight Visions follow up the excellent Photomachine debut ("As an overall statement of intent, it's a bold and successful one." Resident Advisor) with a killer EP from Ossie. His previous EP's were released on Hyperdub and Lightworks with 'Tarantula' making Fact's top 50 tracks of 2011. He also supplied a killer remix to the massive Joe Goddard track 'Gabriel', and recently released an excellent EP as Black Orange Juice on Somethinksounds, which saw him collaborate with Paul Black and Orial, who he brings along to supply live vocals on this new EP. Coming from the London underground scene Ossie is definitely a name to watch, he effortlessly blends garage, classic house and R&B influences into an infectious sound that he can call his own. Whether working with a full vocal on Super Cali, the lush strings of Love Crazy or dealing with classic house styles on Housedabass Ossie operates with a deft touch and builds his tracks with the dancefloor at the forefront of his mind. It's rare that an EP unites the different house and garage tribes, but early reactions to the variety of styles on display this EP have seen positive feedback across the board. With a single on Hypercolour later in the year, gigs at fabric, and high profile fans like Benji B and Mary Anne Hobbs Ossie is definitely on the ones to watch list, much like 2020 Midnight Visions who have delivered another fresh take on modern club music.

Lightworks is a new record label based in London and for its first release is proud to present Ossie's Tarantula. The track was an underground hit in London's house scene in 2010. Initially championed by Ossie's good friend DJ Petchy on Live FM the track quickly picked up attention from the major players in UK underground music. Support soon came from Kode 9, Joy Orbison, Ben UFO, Untold, Brackles, Bok Bok and more - with Kode 9 so impressed that he swiftly signed up Ossie for a release on his Hyperdub imprint set to drop later this year. Tarantula is an unusually mature track from such a young producer and its smooth African percussion and lush synths mark it head and shoulders above the identi-kit house tracks currently swamping London’s underground. For the flip, Eglo Records’ Funkineven picks up remix duties and turns out a perfect example of his recent acidic excursions with a squelching acid bassline perforated by a slick 808 drum set that doubles up on the original’s dancefloor pressure. Meanwhile, Ossie shows further dexterity on Creepy Crawlies as he puts his tribal percussive elements into overdrive, the track is possessed by a twisted electro-shamanistic groove. Three distinct tracks - a solid 12” for dancefloor connoisseurs.
