trus'me - WATER ON MARS
Keeping with the rough release rate of an album every couple of years, Prime Numbers label boss Trus'me is back with his fourth full length, Planet 4. Featuring nine cuts of intergalactic Techno and once again marking a considerable sonic evolution for this acclaimed UK artist. Never one to do the same trick twice, David James Wolstencroft uses his latest album as a vehicle for his own interest in deep space, physics and dark matter. It is those subjects that have occupied his mind in recent years, and those subjects that inform this brilliantly otherworldly album. Where previous LPs have variously been funk and soul heavy, or openly analogue and physical, this one is a more subtle and supple Techno affair that is as cerebral as it is seductive. Starting with a monologue that suggests that man has already landed on Mars, '1979' is a cut that immediately places you somewhere in orbit. Spooky synths and sci-fi sounds are eerie and atmospheric and very much set a perfect tone. From there, there is slow, elastic and unsettling mood music on 'The Unexplained', deep and insular Techno on 'Dark Flow' and trippy Dan Bell style minimalism on 'Ring Round Heart'. The second half of the LP touches on chunky dub, manic and melodic grooves. This is a coherent statement that holds together conceptually and musically. As well as providing plenty of dynamite for the more discerning dance floor, Planet 4 is also a delightfully detailed affair that will work just as well on headphones late at night.

Number one in a series of three remix ep's featuring tracks from the Trus'me album 'Treat Me Right'. First in line are Skudge & Marcelus who ply their trade in suitably classic style. In inimitable style Skudge mould 'Moonlight Kiss' into a deep analogue roller. They maintain the chopped vocal hook & the dreamlike feel of the original but drive the tempo with crackling snares & thunderous kicks. Marcelus brings the pain to 'Hindsight' stripping the piece right back to the bare essentials. His rework fizzes & pops itself into the darkness whilst the bass & keys ride out a mesmeric & hypnotic groove. A fine introduction to this series that will also see Truss, Truncate, Luke Hess, Alan Fitzpatrick & Roman Flügel at the controls.

A special triple pack vinyl release in bespoke wide spine, heavy card sleeve. Features all seven Trus’me remixes from Marcel Dettman, Norman Nodge, DVS1, Terrence Dixon, Ben Klock, Vakula & Ryan Elliott. Also includes a CD in printed card sleeve with all remixes plus two Nick Sinna tracks from his Voyager E.P with remixes from JTC ( Dabrye ) & Conforce. All of the Trus’me remixes on offer here are extreme reworkings pushing into new territory but managing to maintain some familiarity to the original tracks. Both Dettmann & Klock provide classic workouts in their trademark hynotic techno style. Ryan Elliott & Norman Nodge strip things back with muted-dub chuggers. DVS1 takes things very deep with a throbbing bass heavy production. Whilst Vakula & Terrence Dixon really push the boundaries, paranoid 303 acid and tuff breaks from the former & psyched-out detroit moves from the latter. Serious dancefloor material.

The third and final part of Prime Numbers Trus'me remix series. Once again Berlin is in the house with Berghain master Ben Klock taking the Trus'me classic 'W.A.R Dub' into deep & dark dancefloor territory. In his inimitable style all is condensed into a tightly worked & clinical production. The groove is meticulously worked into making for some hypnotic techno. Klock's compadre & Panorama Bar resident Ryan Elliot takes on 'Nards', stripping back its parts to an insistent & organic piece that that builds to the end. Vakula completes the set with a tough reworking of 'Need A Job'. Unremitting acid moves bend around a heavyweight break with increasing intensity. Serious dancefloor material.
