bwana - Hell Is Other Robots
Panorama Bar regular Bwana unites his dual loves of vintage ‘90s electro and classic progressive trance on this three track EP for Dusky’s 17 Steps label. Achieving widespread critical acclaim with last year’s techno homage to the Akira soundtrack - ‘Capsules Pride’ - on LuckyMe, Bwana has since released EPs on his club ready home Aus and Fort Romeau’s Cin Cin, as well as appearing on 17 Steps with a cult remix of Dusky’s ‘Ingrid Is a Hybrid’ - itself something of a Panorama Bar favourite.
On this EP, the illustrious producer presents three contrasting but cohesive tracks in the dark acidic ‘Three Way Is The Hard Way’, hypnotic dark trance builder ’Hell Is Other Robots’ and classic electro homage ‘On Patrol For Their Control’. Completing the package, the inimitable Avalon Emerson bends ‘Three Way Is The Hard Way’ into a glitchy, percussive groover that builds crunchy layers of dark drums around the original’s twisted sonics.

Info:
"The ever-busy AUS Music continue to assert their consistency and follow up EPs from Tom Demac, Escape and Youandewan with the second offering on the label from Toronto born Bwana. Having kept his cards close to his chest during a 2 year hiatus from releasing music, Bwana broke the silence with his 'Flute Dreams' EP back in December of 2014 which offered a propitious insight into the second chapter of his anthology. Now returning with his 'Tengo' EP, he continues on form, reaffirming the benefits of patience and proving that he's an artist capable of touching many bases effectively. Continuing to widen the gulf between his original and current sound, the A side opens up with a pacy, Trance-minded thud that becomes coloured with thick, swooning melodies before 'Drop Mechanism' sets impassioned strings and sweeps over a thick, booming low-end. 'Due-West' then sets out a snapping, forthright groove that rounds up a rich and varied EP leaving us left wondering what else Bwana has tucked up his sleeve.

Info:
Aus follow up Huxley's debut career album and Gerry Read's '3 2 1' EP with their 72nd release and the first contribution to the label from Toronto born Bwana. The Leeds based producer expands on the amorous brand of Bass he's built his reputation with and turns in his 'Flute Dreams' EP; an iridescent packet that sits comfortably in big room spaces and comes bolstered by a remix from Simian Mobile Disco. The title track crescendos behind a thrumming kick and chirping melodies as it gathers luminous tones and textures throughout. Simian Mobile Disco then weigh in and drive clipped acid patterns under hustling drums in a tense and capacious rework. 'Fizzle' unfolds behind shimmering synth patterns and stout toms before 'Aomame' lays a saturated thud under more flaring synths that bloom alongside steadily strengthening drum patterns that bring another Aus coup to a close
