Andrew Scott, aka NY*AK, Scott has remained a consistent representative of the music scene and we're delighted to have him on board for the first release of 2018 on Local Talk, Bound EP. We're treated to four tracks, the opening track 'Bound' is a cut up, soulful disco house slammer. Next up we got Dancing, a perfect example of Andrew's skill when it coms to slowing down the tempo but still letting the track have enough character to keep you...'dancing'. On the flip we got 'See More' which takes you straight to a dark and gritty club with it's stuttering chords, tight drums and pulsing bass. Last but not least we got 'Sandwiches' which features long time collaborator Ian Blevins. A stunning low deep groove for any Theo Parrish or Marcellus Pittman fans out there.

Technicolour maintains it's impressive run of form with the Dollar EP by Newcastle based hardware addict NY*AK. Following up on an excellent 12" for Karakul - a Phonica Records sub-label - he channels the spirit of legendary rhythm architects Herbie Hancock, Theo Parrish, Kenny Dope and Lil' Louie Vega, collating four rough gems made using an MPC, Nord Lead 2, Roland SH101, Roland 606, Juno 106, Jen SX1000, Rhodes 88MK1 and with the help of Mark Hand on keys, Misumami on vocals and Ian Blevins. Each track packs incredible punch in the groove stakes, undoubtedly the characteristic that has attracted the likes of Moodymann, Seven Davis Jr and Gilles Peterson to NY*AK's music.

Omar Santis makes his debut on Karakul with the four track EP ‘A T.D.L.D Joint’. Karakul is a new label focusing on deeper House cuts from around the world. First up is Chilean born Stockholm dwelling Omar Santis. Omar first came to our attention through his records on the Woodsmen & Lady Log label, the first of which was a split 12” with Niklas Andersson which he then followed up with his own EP titled simply ‘W&LL003’ a few months later. Two fantastic records featuring his low slung, immersive House production that caught Karakul’s ears immediately. Omar tells us ‘A T.D.L.D Joint’ is an abbreviation of ‘Ta det lugnt daa’ meaning ‘Take it easy then yeah’ and on this 12” he certainly does, in the best possible way. It’s his most soulful record to date, building upon his detailed signature sound with perfectly placed vocals on ‘Stark Champagne’, melancholic Rhodes on ‘Lulu’s Jam’, tribal percussion and pads on ‘At The Shanzai Hotel’ and finally lowering the pace altogether for the emotional ender ‘Inward’.

Stenciled Sleeves....Limited Edition..... HEAT! MATE 002 presents NY*AK's aptly titled THE TRUTH WILL FIND YOU. Pfff that was long. What truth will find us then? The truth that Detroit and New Castle's working class have a lot more in common then the eye meets. NY*AK channels his love and passion through 4 mid-tempo bangers, breathing incredibly soulful. How I feel reminisces of stripped down 80's Boogie with a heavy foot, while Makosa melts into a sweet piano loop. Empty Promises might be a kind of a theme song for Mr Scott, since the voice urges the listener to keep on pushing for his own fulfillment, no matter what friends & family. The Truth indeed has found him.
