Does bringing digital music into the physical realm make it more real by offering it the tangibility of physical matter? The PERCEBES MÚSICA collective furthers the long term discussion on the relationships between medium and message, truth and illusion, worth and validity. “Conversor” is a various artist compilation that at first glance feels like a single artist album. The cover does not explicitly state individual authors (only track titles, lengths and BPM are provided), as if to dilute the importance of self and ego, though the listener can attain said information when accessing the download codes inside. It is content from the ether pressed to matter through a Digital-to-Analog conversion process; selected tracks picked from the label’s recent digital catalogue, cleverly edited and placed together onto a record, made to create an introspective - yet physical - electronic soul LP with clear canonical undertones. The trickling down of information from binary code to material existence into a limited edition slab of vinyl. The offerings range from classic sounding deeper house (by the likes of Daino, Larry Quest, Poko Poko and label head Ka§par) to a wider reaching selection of african riddims (Hélder Russo, Moreno Ácido and Terra Chã), UK Garage (Cyclonix) and even golden age drum’n’bass (Al:X). An exploration of mood and cohesion through variety, the artistic result will resonate with the timeless approach of eclectic labels like the profound Guidance or Peacefrog, the cutting edge Metamorphic, or Reflective or even the widely known WARP or R&S. The purchase of the physical record allows the owner to download not only the integral digital version of the vinyl LP, but also every full EP release from where each track has been extracted. Each entry has been perfectly timed to retain all valuable dynamic range and definition on either side of the vinyl record, while still creating a timely impact on the dance floor, every track is a strong narrational item of use in a DJ bag for a deep electronic minded soul slinger.

Over the last two years, Percebes sought to upgrade public perception of locally created electronic and urban music by placing it along international producers, in a compilation series of two volumes called Produto Interno Bruto (PIB) - portuguese for “Gross Domestic Product”. Released digitally (first on the label’s Bandcamp page and later on all online platforms), these showed the outside world not only what Lisbon based artists are about but also how they can fit in a wider picture. The compilations also helped to deconstruct a narrative that isn’t particularly accurate about electronic / dance / urban music made in Lisbon in international circles. In fact, PIB offers an alternative- perhaps more tangible - perspective on who and what you can actually listen to when going out at night in Portugal. Well, at least partly (it was never meant to be a definitive document). The label was later able to cut a functional collection of tracks compiled from both volumes onto glorious wax... and here we are! Pure portuguese underground talent sided with tracks from our closest friends in the international scene. The double LP collects tracks chosen by myself from volumes I and II of PIB and also adds a little extra by including a bonus vinyl exclusive by Cyclonix. For practical reasons, it was impossible to include all 22 tracks of both volumes on this vinyl, but it’s still possible to appreciate every artist featured by finding the download codes inside and get a full digital PIB pack (with all 22 tracks, plus a bonus release). We’re doing out part to provide you with a pristine sounding, powerful, useful and varied compilation that you can carry in your record bag for all sorts of situations - and also to fill up your USB sticks, phones and laptops with much more content for a reasonable price. ? Knowledge, attitude, freedom of format, and quality over quantity. This is what we are about: Djs, producers and engineers who love great music, more than people obsessed with labelling things!

Percebes starts 2021 by releasing the label honcho’s brand new “Gestures Of Release” LP: a highly personalised universe that manages to display diversity whilst retaining a unique sense of coherence. An offering of tracks that reflect the producer’s unique take on languages he knows well: deep, crunchy disco house (“Miles Away”), dreamy downtempo (“Suave”) and mellow freestyle funk (“Membrana”). Of course there are also plenty of irresistible bumping dance floor moments of classic inspiration (“Gestures Of Release”, “Clone Forge” and the bass heavy “Time Apart”). Guests include funk band Thunder & Co, legendary junglist producer AL:X, fellow Percebes founder Hélder Russo and Chicago new school gold medalist Andrew “Change Request” Emil. The quality in production, mixing and mastering is second to none. It’s an LP that plays and sounds as close to a maxi single as physically possible! Perfectly crafted tracks that a DJ can use on both dance floors and cooler settings alike, but also, an album that any music lover can enjoy on a proper turntable. Quoting Vito Corleone, it’s “an offer you can’t refuse”. The vinyl comes with bonus music in its digital counterpart (includes full length album with four extra tracks as a free download with purchase). Overall, great bang-for-the-buck pack full of future classics, as usual with Percebes so far. “Gestures Of Release” will be out in April 2021.
